As author Tahlula Rae has discovered; success is a double-edged sword. Leading a quiet and anonymous life, she isn’t prepared for the hateful backlash when her latest book hit the lists, propelling her into the limelight. No longer feeling safe in Denver, she takes her laptop and dog, Luke, and moves to the mountains around Durango, where her peaceful solitude is disrupted when a red-bearded man … man knocks on her door.
While one of the fire department’s finest, Evan Biel, is relatively content with his life, he can’t escape the sense something’s missing. When on fire-safety housecalls, he finds himself staring into a pair of soulful, copper-colored eyes sparking a deep interest. Discovering the exotic-looking woman may be in more trouble than he can handle, he tries—yet fails—to keep his distance.
When Tahlula offers San Antonio firefighters, Moose and Penelope Jacobs, temporary lodging, as they help fight seasonal wildfires, Evan’s relieved she’s no longer alone on the mountain. Yet when her troubles become outright threats on her life, his focus has to be keeping Tahlula safe.

I enjoyed Tahlula and Evan’s story. The characters were great and had good chemistry. This was a well written romantic suspense. This is the third book in the series and can be read as a standalone – but is more enjoyable as part of the series.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the third one in the Police and Fire Operation Alpha Series. And its fine. I have problems writing a review, because Freya’s style of writing clicks perfect with my brain, and the cinema in my head. I can’t just read her books. Five Pages and — Whoop — I directly stand on main street in Durango. I feel so familiar especially because they all live here. Keith and Ollie ( P&F 1+2 ) , and also characters from the Rock Point Series . It’s amazing for me to just click so into a style of writing that I m far away and totally in the story. And believe it just happened with every damn book Freya Barker wrote.
So I m useless to an honest review……*smile*
Let me say that everything feels perfect in this book. The characters are enchanting and the scene is well described. And sure there are some scary moments in this book. But Evan is a protective one, so don’t be afraid.
And now I yearn for “ Edge of Reason“ and Trunk and Jamie ( Release 09.12.2019 ) One personal wish might be that Freya’s books may be translated into German, so many more people could love her Story and visit Durango.
Freya Barker did a fantastic job with this story! There is tons of action, riveting suspense, steamy scenes, and heart-felt moments, I was captivated!
I really enjoyed the first meeting between Evan and Tahlula! Evan is struck when he sees Tahlula. Struck dumb that is! He says everything he doesn’t want to say and nothing he does. The inner dialogue of his absurdity is hilarious!
It is insta-attraction for them both, but Tahlula has just relocated, needing to lay low from an overzealous stalker. The timing is wrong and the stakes are high. She can’t afford to lose herself regardless how hot he is. But Evan isn’t so easily swayed. He has the perfect combination of patience and perseverance for the independent fire-cracker.
Unfortunately, a mysterious chain of events and raging wildfires ruin any gains Evan thought he was making. It also keeps us readers in a constant state of suspense! Who is behind the events? Will the ever independent Tahlula let Evan keep her safe?
I really, really appreciate that Ms.Barker’s characters are generally older. It gives the characters a strong sense of self that comes with the maturity of age. They know themselves and what they want. There isn’t any game playing. They are real and easily relatable. It also adds to the plot lines, because with that maturity comes baggage! Ha ha!! Another relatable quality. HMPF! The characters in Tracking Tahlula face their baggage head on.
“I’m as guilty as you are. I carry baggage that colors how I see things- how I react to things-you do too.”
With that maturity, also comes the ability to be comfortable in your own skin. That leads to some amazingly steamy scenes! Wow!! I really liked these two characters!
I am a huge fan of Freya Barker books! I can always count on her to create wonderful stories where I can settle in and get lost within the pages, loving every minute!! Tracking Tahlula is another excellent story! It is a standalone, but does reconnect us with beloved characters introduced in the On Call Series.
Another awesome book I highly recommend!
I read an ARC of this book. My fair and honest review is voluntary.
This story was so freaking amazing! I love Freya Barker’s stories. Just when I think she’s topped herself, she does it again. Evan and Tahlula were a perfect fit. I loved reading about their backstories and how they worked towards their HEA with all the crazy that was flying around them. Heat, humor and heart –it was the perfect trifecta for an avid reader. You have to read this one and it’s just like potato chips, once you’ve had one of Ms. Barker’s stories you just can’t stop.
Thank you, Freya Barker, for finally telling us Evan’s story. We met Evan a few books back and I’ve been waiting, on pins and needles, to find out his story. And I don’t know why I’m surprised that, once again, you’ve done an amazing job telling us about this unique couple. Tahlula is such a strong, independent woman but there’s just something special about her. I just can’t put my finger on what it is. But she’s now ranked #2 on my list of favorite heroines from your books.
Do you like strong independent women? Do you like caring alpha men? Do you like suspense thrown in with your romance with a hint of sarcasm and laughter? Then Freya Barker has your back. Grab this book, grab any book of hers, grab all of her books. You won’t be disappointed.
I loved everything about this story!
The characters, the storyline the heat factor!
Yes please and thank you.
This author has a brilliant way of taking ordinary folks and making them into extraordinary characters.
Evan and Tahlula’s story was so juicy and entertaining. The plot so genuine and relatable!
Another must read from an author that has become an automatic 1-click worthy!
By the way, even though it’s part of a series it can certainly be read and enjoyed as a standalone.
4.5 stars!
Wow once again Freya Barker has made me love the character in her book, we have an author Tahlula who leaves her home to escape everything and in doing so meets Evan he is drawn to her but feels she needs to much until her life is on the line and he knows she needs him as much as he needs her
TRACKING TAHLULA (Police and Fire: Operation Alpha Series, On Call #3) by Freya Barker is a GREAT romantic suspense addition to this series! Ms. Barker always gives me realistic characters that I would love to be friends with out of her books. This book can be read as a standalone, but there are several crossover characters from pervious books in this series and Susan Stoker’s Operation Alpha world.
Tahlula Rae is a successful romantic suspense author who is finding herself in a real-life suspense plot. As soon as she hit the NY Times bestseller list and had to do live publicity, she seems to be the target of a stalker for an unknown reason. After a break-in, she moves to Durango from Denver with her rescue dog, Luke to be closer to her brother and hopefully get away from any danger.
Evan Biel, Durango firefighter and paramedic is out making fire-safety house calls. As he rings the bell for a remote home in the hills, he is surprised by the exotic beauty with the soulful copper eyes who answers the door. Evan finds he cannot get the feisty, independent, pregnant woman off his mind.
As their relationship grows, Tahlula and Evan work to balance her independent streak vs. his protective nature. At the same time, the summer wildfire season threatens the city as the personal dangers to Tahlula increase. Can Evan and his friends keep Tahlula safe?
I always LOVE Ms. Barker’s characters! They are mature, realistic, smart and likable. The romantic suspense plots keep you turning the pages, but it is always the characters that make Ms. Barker’s books a “must buy” for me. I am happy when I find an author who writes about older characters finding their HEAs and Ms. Barker does it so well.
I recommend this romantic suspense and the whole series for great characters and stories. I highly recommend Freya Barker for realistic mature HEAs.
TRACKING TAHLULA is another solid addition to Freya Barker’s catalogue of authored books. This time, our heroine, Tahlula Rae, is herself an author who learns about the dark side of being a public persona when she begins receiving alarming threats. Evan Biel meets Tahlula soon after she moves into town and he is immediately attracted to her.
There’s a good balance of romance and suspense, and the fast pace of the book kept me flicking the pages fast to find out what happens next. The suspense element had enough twists and turns to keep me and the characters guessing about who the “bad guys” are. I also enjoyed the very steamy attraction between Evan and Tahlula.
And then there’s a miniature donkey called Smokey. He doesn’t play a large part in the book, but every time he makes an appearance, he put a smile on my face.
Tahlula and Evan were great together. It was about time that guy found the right ‘ONE’ for him after all the hassle he’s had previously!!
I LOVE Freya Barkers books. Her writing is real, relatable and full of ALL the feels. I adore that her characters are ‘people’ you could see yourself liking and being friends with and that all the things they go through in their lives are believable and could easily happen.
The story arc in this read is actually pretty relevant given all the things happening in the world at the moment which made it easy to ‘see’ what was going on being possible real, newsworthy events in RL.
The introduction of characters from Susan Stoker’s book world, the additions of new faces and catching up with some old favourites from previous books, coupled with this being an engaging, well written, page turning story makes for a 5* read for me!!!
By now, you must know that I absolutely ADORE everything that Freya Barker writes! Tracking Tahlula is no exception. If anything, this book is amongst my FAVES from her, full of all the suspense and drama that I’ve come to expect from her….and soooooo much more!!!
We first met Evan in Burning For Autumn, the first book in the Police and Fire: Operation Alpha crossover series with Susan Stoker’s Badge of Honor series. Evan was unfairly and unjustly suspected of being an arsonist who also didn’t “get the girl” (Autumn) BUT, he was not meant for Autumn….he was really waiting for Tahlula all along!
Tahlula Rae has run from Denver to Durango to escape her growing fame after writing her first bestselling novel and all the unwanted attention (both good and bad) and some frightening incidences that make her want to hide out near her only family…her brother Trunk. Little does she know that things are about to get even more scary and Evan Biel (along with some of the best people you could ever meet, including Moose and Penelope from Susan Stoker’s Shelter for Penelope) will be the only things standing between her and certain death!I
As always, Ms. Barker’s STELLAR writing and beautiful prose settled into my heart and soul with this INCREDIBLE, well-written and UNFORGETTABLE love story! I can’t WAIT for what’s coming next from one of my TOP FAVE unicorn authors!
Tracking Tahlula is Freya Barker at her finest!
We first met Evan Biel in Burning For Autumn, the first book in the On Call series. I was so happy the big hearted firefighter and sexy ginger was going to be getting a book.
Tahlula Rae is an author who has relocated to Durango to be near her brother and hide away from being in the public eye. She is sharp, witty and fiercely independent.
This book has everything that we love from Freya Barker, strong, independent female characters, hot protective alpha males, exceptional secondary characters, a fast paced suspenseful storyline, and amazing chemistry between Evan and Tahlula.
The storyline flowed and had twists and turns that kept me turning page after page. I loved these characters so much and did not want the story to end. It was great to reconnect with characters from the FBI and Arrows Edge MC, Freya always weaves them in masterfully.
I don’t want to give away any of the story, trust me, just dive right in, sit back and enjoy the ride.
5 stars!
We first met Evan Biel in Burning for Autumn when he was accused of been a arsonist and he had feelings for Autumn that weren’t reciprocated now he gets his own story .
Evan is quite happy with his life but he knows that something is missing and that is a love of his own That is until he meets Tahlula Rae when he is making fire-safety housecalls. Tahlula is an author who has recently made it big with her latest book but she wasn’t ready for the limelight so she has escaped to the relative obscurity of Durango. Evan is instantly attracted and worries about her been in the mountains by herself when Moose and Penelope come to fight wild fires and reside with her he feels a little better about her security but no one expects the danger that will stalk her Can he keep her safe with the help of his friends and will he get a HEA with her You will have to read to see
This was a riveting story. It was an intensely intriguing story of suspense and romance. I cannot even begin to describe how much I enjoyed this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book in exchange for a free copy.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review Stephanie’s Book Reports.

If you have been waiting for Evan’s story you are about to have it in your hands. This is where Evan meets Tahlula who is an author who is thrown in the spotlight because of her book. A dangerous spotlight if there has ever been one. Both in their forties they are perfect for each other in my opinion and not just because of their ages. These two have some amazing, will it is smoking hot chemistry. I loved that this book was different from a lot of books you read. I loved that it was about an author and a firefighter. I love authors obviously, I am a huge reader and I have a house of firefighters. This is one of my favorite Freya Barker books. It is so amazing and I think that everyone of you needs to read it.
This was an amazing book. The story flowed and all the characters were great! I can’t wait to hopefully read more stories with these characters! Just an amazing book, go read it and find out for yourself!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Great addition to Ms. Barker’s On-Call series! The characters are well-developed and real. The issues they face throughout the book are relevant and timely, given the state of racial and economical relations today.
Tahlula Rae is a new best-selling writer who is struggling with her new-found popularity and the loss of her privacy. She’s a mature single woman about to become a mother, with an angry half-brother as her only family. Evan Biel is a firefighter/paramedic with a heart of gold. He’s outgoing, surrounded by friends and family, and after one look, realizes Tahlula is the one for him. Their story is sweet and angsty, with lots of suspense to keep you hooked. It was lovely to catch up on so many of Ms. Barker’s other characters from previous books and series.
I am so looking forward to Trunk’s story, and seeing what the future has in store for all the members of Fire Station 3!
Just finished this gem over the weekend and loved it. A lovely small town romance: hot fireman meets author. Book 3 in the On Call series and we finally get Evan’s story!! Full of steamy chemistry with some action packed danger, this read is a great fit for the series. I loved the love story of Evan and Tahlula it’s both sweet and steamy. Also we got a chance to re-visit some beloved Durango characters as well as meet a few new ones. A definite must read.
Tracking Tahlula is the third book in the Police and Fire: Operation Alpha; On Call. I was so happy when I realized this was Evan’s story, we met him in Burning For Autumn. This story is full of suspense, and intrigue, it kept me glued to my kindle, I couldn’t stop reading, I had to find out what was going to happen. Tahlula is and author, who’s moved to be closer to her brother. Evan is a firefighter, he’s caring and loyal, and the first time he meets Tahlula, he is struck blind. It was cute to see him all ruffled. I liked seeing past characters, and meeting new ones. Looking forward to next book in this series.
Tracking Tahlula is a wonderful over 40 romance proving that you can find love at any age. I love the characters that Freya Barker writes. They have a down to earth quality and are definitely the type of people I would love to know. She keeps the storyline fresh and engaging with just enough danger and intrigue to keep the pages turning.
Tahlula moves to Durango to find peace and quiet after being thrown into the media with the success of her novel, but the peace she thought surrounded her is still wrapped in danger.
Evan, a Durango firefighter meets Tahlula while checking on houses that may be threatened by wild fires. Little did he know that that single meeting would change everything. He is mesmerized by her and finds any excuse to see her. When he realizes she is in danger his protective instincts come out and he brings her and her unborn baby into his fold of friends and family! Now they have to figure out who is after her.
The best thing that ever happened to Tahlula was moving to this town and finding Evan. Not only did she find love but she and her new baby are also surrounded by friends and family.
This book is the perfect addition to The Police and Fire: Operation Alpha Series and I am excited to see what is coming next!
