As author Tahlula Rae has discovered; success is a double-edged sword. Leading a quiet and anonymous life, she isn’t prepared for the hateful backlash when her latest book hit the lists, propelling her into the limelight. No longer feeling safe in Denver, she takes her laptop and dog, Luke, and moves to the mountains around Durango, where her peaceful solitude is disrupted when a red-bearded man … man knocks on her door.
While one of the fire department’s finest, Evan Biel, is relatively content with his life, he can’t escape the sense something’s missing. When on fire-safety housecalls, he finds himself staring into a pair of soulful, copper-colored eyes sparking a deep interest. Discovering the exotic-looking woman may be in more trouble than he can handle, he tries—yet fails—to keep his distance.
When Tahlula offers San Antonio firefighters, Moose and Penelope Jacobs, temporary lodging, as they help fight seasonal wildfires, Evan’s relieved she’s no longer alone on the mountain. Yet when her troubles become outright threats on her life, his focus has to be keeping Tahlula safe.

This book was fantastic! I loved everything about it. The characters and their development, the way the story flows, it was all magical.
Freya Barker became one of my automatic one-click authors in 2018, when I discovered and devoured Cabin 12. Until then, I hadn’t read a wide range of romantic suspense books that spotlighted first responders, but Freya has a real gift for writing them. This latest release is another fantastic addition to her ever growing catalog of entertaining and thrilling books.
“Tracking Tahlula” is Freya’s third book set within the “Police and Fire: Operation Alpha” Fan-Fiction world. As a Twilight FF alum, I’ve been ticked to see that Freya has written several stories using one of more of Susan Stoker’s characters, and with the enthusiastic support of Stoker herself. And although I’m personally unfamiliar with Stoker’s works, I’ve enjoyed the tie-ins to her work. In this book, we’re treated to the brilliant combo of Stoker’s characters – Pen, Moose, and their pet miniature donkey, Smokey. They’re a trio you won’t soon forget!
For me, there are several refreshing elements when it comes to reading Freya Barker’s novels. I always enjoy the suspense of unfolding mysteries at the center of her novels. Her plots are always well-paced, with tensions that build to a fever pitch, and well-written action sequences.
I also love that Freya prominently features a compelling and diverse set of characters, including Native American heroes, Hispanic professionals, and in the case of Tahlula Rae, a highly successful African-American romance author. Readers looking for diversity in their fiction will be pleased with the complexity of these well-crafted individuals.
Additionally, Freya’s characters are mature adults – often in their forties. Given the combined stressors of navigating demanding careers along with unresolved personal issues, it’s refreshing to watch how these wiser characters deal with the strife hurled at them.
I’m thrilled to give “Tracking Tahlula” 5 stars, and am already eager to see what Freya publishes next!
I’ve read several books written by Freya Barker; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

Tahlula is trying to get away from everything and thought Durango would be the perfect spot but now she has to deal with one hot fire fighter Evan, her publishing agent being missing and fires that could endanger her new home. There is plenty of suspense, attraction, cute pets, laughs, awesome characters and some twists you just don’t see coming. I highly recommend you get comfy and have some nibbles to eat next to you along with a drink or 2 at the ready before you start as you aren’t moving until you get to the end of the book!

I am absolutely in love with this book!! Freya Barker is an amazing writer and this one was my favorite one so far of hers. Action, mystery, drama, sexy and protective firefighter, strong and fierce author and loving someone despite their differences from you are the reasons you should love this book and author!! I can’t recommend this book enough. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for??
This is book three in the Police and Fire: Operation Alpha – On Call series. This is Tahlula and Evan’s story. Tahlula is an author who leaves her home in Denver with her dog, Luke and finds her perfect solitary place in the mountains near a small town called Durango. All is good until the wild fires begin breaking out and the firefighters start coming around. Evan comes knocking on her door to check on her but he also sets her heart racing. As things intensify, Tahlula finds herself in danger and Evan is the string, aloha firefighter that not only comes to her rescue but also steals her heart. Another great read in the series! Enjoy!

I love this Susan Stoker world; I’ve discovered new authors and revisiting favorite characters is always fun.
I loved everything about this book. H/h, storyline and flow. There was just enough mystery and the progression of their relationship was smooth and drama free.
Tracking Tahlula (Police and Fire: Operation Alpha Series, On Call #3) is a great romantic suspense story that engaged my interest from the start. The characters are well developed with hot chemistry together. The storyline is well written and exciting, with an interfering brother, danger, suspense, intrigue, and steamy romance.
I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
A ginger fighting fire
Evan Beil has no game when he meets Tahlulah. She’s a writer who recently moved and he’s Durango Fire and Rescue.
Someone is causing trouble for Tahlulah. Race. Drama.
I really liked Evan. I love me a ginger.
Evan is great.

Book three of the Police and Fire: Operation Alpha/On Call series and this series just gets better with each new book. This is author Tahlula Rae and one of the fire department’s finest, Evan Biel’s story. That was one sick woman this story has suspense, drama, danger, evil, villains, and love. A very good story. Oh my!!! Hello Evan!!! I never tire of reading about ALPHA men and their equally strong counterparts.
I loved Tahlula’s strength and determination. She knew what she wanted and she set out to achieve her dreams. She packed up everything and made a move that would forever change her life and brought her into the path of Evan….
Evan….imagine I’m writing this with stars in my eyes…..he was a dream! He saw Tahlula and my immediate thought was him staking a claim….She is mine and mine alone !! He knew right away that Tahlula was going to have a big impact on him and boy did she ever!!!
I loved everything about this story: Evan, Tahlula, the setting….everything! Another must read from Ms. Barker!!
I absolutely loved this latest book in the On Call Series!!! Evan first meets Tahlula while doing routine fire checks. He is instantly attracted to her and wants to get to know her better. Tahlula is hesitant but can’t deny there is something about Evan that intrigues her. The chemistry is off the charts and they can’t deny the pull that brings them together. When it becomes apparent that someone is after her, all of Evan’s protective instincts come flailing to life and he will do anything to keep the woman who means so much to him and her unborn baby safe from harm. Their story is amazing…I was hooked from beginning to end. There are a lot of twists and turns and surprises that keep you on the edge of your seat. I can’t recommend it enough…its a great story. I can’t wait for more phenomenal stories by this talented author. Well done!!!
Evan Biel is a firefighter who we met in Burning For Autumn.. Where he was a suspect in the arson and murder case that Detective Keith Blackfoot was investigating, although he was cleared it left him unable to trust easily .. So at 43 he is doing a job he loves and looks after his mum and he is ok with that until…while on routine visits to home owners in the rural community to make sure they are doing everything to keep safe in the fire season he knocks on a property and is greeted by a pregnant woman who takes is breathe away and makes him stumble on his words he is so stunned he does not even aske her name , he decides a second visit is in order so he can get to know her better.. But is greeted by a very large guy who he assumes is her husband.. But he does find out her name is Tahlula very fitting for the biracial beauty that now seem to invade his thoughts ..when a fire breaks out near her house he goes to investigate only to find her out in the forest looking for her dog Luke and when a body is discovered his protective instinct kicks into full gear. Tahlula is a New York times best selling author who has moved to Durango after a nasty incident in her previous home town of Denver, she also cannot get the 6ft 3 ginger bearded firefighter out of her thoughts and when he scolds her for being out in the forest alone he then finds out that the big guy is in fact Trunk her brother who is now working at the Arrow MC compound he is determined to make her his , Tahlula and Trunk did not have the best of up brining’s so he is over protective of her which causes stress as she and Evan get to know one and other, now with a white supremacist group targeting her and her friends and fires blazing all around the tension escalates we meet characters we have read about in previous books that make up the Durango community as they welcome Talula into their mist. as with all of Freya’s books her characters grab you right off the page and whilst dealing with strong emotional topics , make it impossible to put down until the end .. Loved this book as much as the others can’t wait for Trunk and the other firefighters story
Favorite Quotes:
Can you guys dial down the testosterone, please? I’m having an allergic reaction.
Sometimes I really detest the voice of reason.
As nice a package as you come in, it’s your indiscriminate kindness, your passion, your warm heart, and your beautiful soul that made me fall in love with you.
Stop making sense, you’re starting to annoy me.
My Review:
This was an active and entertaining yet easy to follow and engaging romantic suspense story with an interesting premise, likable and sweary characters, clever pets, intrigue, peril, humorous banter, a sweet and steamy new romance, scorched sheets, a radical fringe group, and fast-paced and eventful storylines. Insightfully and evocatively written in my favorite dual POV of a newly acquainted over-forty couple who felt interest, awareness, and unmistakable attraction at first glance. Pregnancy is one of my least favorite tropes but I’ll always make an exception for the crafty Freya Barker… unless she starts writing about pregnant zombies, which would be a definite no-go/hard limit.
Tracking Tahlula has substance. This is a story that has things that check all of the great romance boxes…strong female character, protective and dedicated alpha male lead. More importantly it paints characters as if you hope they live next door and would watch their dog ..or mini donkey…for them if they got in a bind. And of course there is a bit of danger. The story leaves you guessing and also does a great job of developing characters that I hope will get books written about them in the future. All in all a fantastic addition to the Police and Fire world!
She did it again!
This one was so freaking great!
How does she do it??? I swear every story I read by Freya is better then the last one. (Ollie is still my absolute favorite though – check her story out of you haven’t already.)
Evan is a hot fireman and Tahlula is a pregnant story writer. (Quick answer) Add in a fun mother (his) and a overbearing brother (here) and you have the makings of a well rounded world. Oh – and lots not forget all the friends we met in all the previous stories.
The chemistry between these two is off the charts! It’s basically love at first sight. He doesn’t even care that she is pregnant.
And that ending!!!! That ending was perfect! Absolutely perfect!
This book is part of a series, but you will have no problem reading it on its own since each book features a different couple.
I highly recommend you check this one out!
When it becomes apparent Evan’s newest interest, Tahlula, has someone after her, his protective instincts are screaming at him. Can he protect this woman whom he’s fallen so hard for?
Tracking Tahlula is a fast-paced, entertaining read. I loved both Tahlula and Evan – they’re so great together. And I love that they’re in their 40s. If you like your romantic suspense with fabulous characters and sizzling chemistry, I highly suggest you download a copy of Tracking Tahlula today!
