As author Tahlula Rae has discovered; success is a double-edged sword. Leading a quiet and anonymous life, she isn’t prepared for the hateful backlash when her latest book hit the lists, propelling her into the limelight. No longer feeling safe in Denver, she takes her laptop and dog, Luke, and moves to the mountains around Durango, where her peaceful solitude is disrupted when a red-bearded man … man knocks on her door.
While one of the fire department’s finest, Evan Biel, is relatively content with his life, he can’t escape the sense something’s missing. When on fire-safety housecalls, he finds himself staring into a pair of soulful, copper-colored eyes sparking a deep interest. Discovering the exotic-looking woman may be in more trouble than he can handle, he tries—yet fails—to keep his distance.
When Tahlula offers San Antonio firefighters, Moose and Penelope Jacobs, temporary lodging, as they help fight seasonal wildfires, Evan’s relieved she’s no longer alone on the mountain. Yet when her troubles become outright threats on her life, his focus has to be keeping Tahlula safe.

Somehow I missed posting this review when I read this book. This author has some great characters that not only draw yo into the read but they also take a hold of your heart. He’s sexy and fun and crazy enough to stand up to her brother, because for the life of him he can’t stay away. She’s still recovering from a break up that left her scarred and a life she can’t seem to escape yet she can’t keep her mind off the hot fire fighter. This author pours on the suspense and thrills oh and don’t think she skimps on the action. The story goes from 100 to 1000 keeping you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next thing to ratchet it back up. It’s a great read and fits the action for this series. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
Who is Tahlula Rae? What does she do for a living? What did she used to do? Where do we find her at? How does she meet Even Biel? What does he do for a living? Who are Moose and Penelope Jacobs? Why do we find them at Tahlula’s? Who is Lena Griffon? Oh, I love Titus, aka Trunk. He’s a hoot! What does he do? Jaimie is a blast! Love Even’s response to Tahlula’s call with Jaimie. What he says after she finishes the call just had me laughing like nobody’s business. Loved seeing Keigh and company again. Love when series have characters that cross over from other series! What is the deal with the pickup truck Tahlula sees? Where does Lena go? Why? Talk about one heck of a romantic suspense read! I may just have to re-read this book in the next week!

Every time I read a book from this author, I get four or five chapters in, and fall hopelessly in love with the hero. And Evan is no exception! He wants to take care of Lula, not because she can’t, but because they can do it better together. She’s bi-racial, targeted because of it, so she moves from Denver to Durango, figuring she’ll be safer there, and be close to her brother, the only family she has. She’s smart, strong and independent, and fights Evan when he tries to help, because she’s never had that support system of friends and family. This book has it all – romance, steamy scenes, family moments, suspense, action – all well-balanced in a beautifully written story. I love that characters from the other books show up here – these friends and co-workers truly are family. Freya Barker is one of my absolutely must-read authors.

Such a great book! This third book in the On Call series features our hunky redheaded Firefighter Evan Biel and fiercely independent writer Tahlula Rae. The fire season is on in Durango Co and Evan meets Tahlula while making a visit to her isolated home regarding fire safety. He is immediately drawn to the beautiful biracial pregnant woman and she to him but they seem to rub each other the wrong way on every visit he makes. When a fire and white supremacy group threatens her Evan is determined to keener safe whether she wants him to or not. This book is action packed, suspense filled, has dedicated fire, police and emergency personnel, a missing literary agent, a friend and assistant, supportive women of the town, a loud sarcastic brother, a sweet mother, family…blood and chosen, hot steamy scenes and learning to love and compromise.
Freya Barker really packed Tracking Tahlula with drama, suspense and danger. In addition she addresses the timely issues of racism, bigotry, white national supremacists and rampant wildland fires. I was really taken with the way Evan and Tahlula’s relationship evolved. The way he was dumbstruck when he first saw her was a grin-worthy moment. His protective nature, caring and concern illustrated how genuine he is. Lula’s fierce independence made for some interesting confrontations with both her brother and Evan. All in all the book was exceptional.
Pretty good book. Tahlula is pregnant by artificial insemination because she didn’t need a man to have a baby. She is an author and she’s bi-racial and her brother Trunk (Titus) is with an MC club. Needless to say he’s not happy with Evan (being white) but that’s not his decision. There is some fires, murder and a attempted kidnapping. HEA
I love Freya Barker, and I loved this story. The fact that Evan and Tahlula are an older couple made me love them even more, as you can easily relate to them and their very real predicaments. The supporting cast from Evan’s Ma to Penelope’s donkey Smokey and Thalula’s brooding older brother just added to the overall success of this enjoyable read
He is a firefighter she is a writer who wants a new start she also Is having a baby on her own when the fires and action gets to close he protects her he helps her with her bring her child into the world they fall in love have sizzling romance and a wonderful happy ending
Tracking Tahlula by Freya Barker
This is the third book in her Police and Fire: Operation; On Call series and I loved it! Not only did Evan finally get his HEA but for Tahlula who’s an author and not afraid to have her own baby despite her own mother’s issues but Moose, Penelope and Smokey are there also.
Tahlula Rae moved to Durango, CO for several reasons to have a quiet place to raise her baby, write her next book and to escape someone who is harassing her after her debut novel was released. Her brother Trunk also followed after accepting a job with Arrow’s Edge MC as their new child psychologist. Little does she know that Evan Biel will stop by with safety reminders for the upcoming fire season. When the forest fire season literally heats up, her editor goes missing, and she can run but not hide from the Denver threats.
Evan Biel has had his eye on Tahlula but with the summer fire season fast approaching he’ll be very busy trying to keep everyone safe. So telling her to cut back her shrubs will qualify for stopping by her place in the mountains outside of town right? When the Police department and then the FBI find out that the recent fire and finding remains might have a connection to Tahlula Evan will do whatever is necessary to keep her safe.
An exciting story linked to a great romantic story. I think Evan is a great sensitive man with the heart in the right place. As soon as he sees Tahlula he is interested in her. Tahlula has been an independent woman all her life and has decided to have a baby independently, does not need a man to raise a baby with her. However, Evan is a man who makes her feel safe, and she really needs that right now in her life when someone tries to kill her.
Well-crafted plot, exciting moments that hold you to the book, and a HEA

I always seem to do things backwards and reading is no exception. After reading and loving Edge Of Reason (Arrow’s Edge MC #1) and Trunk’s story, I decided to go back to read his sister’s story, Tracking Tahlula (Police and Fire: Operation Alpha).
I’ve really enjoyed meeting the varied cast in the On Call series and despite reading about the characters in a topsy turvy fashion, I have enjoyed each and every book. Now with talk of Blue’s book in the pipeline, I am even more excited.
Tahlula also does things backwards, she’s definitely a girl after my own heart. After deciding she wanted a baby, through unconventional means, she is happily living a quiet life as an author until she receives a fire risk warning from Evan Biel. Evan, assuming the beautiful mess he meets upon arrival at her property is married, given her baby bump, offers advice and walks away. When he finds out Tahlula isn’t married, or dating he is right back up the mountain and determined to get to know her despite her being pregnant.
When Tahlula finds herself in danger from an unknown source, she knows she must do everything she can to keep her “little pea” safe. Fortunately, Tahlula has an abundance of testosterone around her and between Trunk and Evan, the local Police and Fire Departments and you’d be fooled into thinking that no-one could possibly put her in danger, but you’d be wrong.
Having read Trunk’s story first, the reasons for the threats against Tahlula were not a shock but I was still stunned to read about how and why the perpetrators decided to target Tahlula.
With all this mystery, intrigue and danger and insanely manly men to compliment the suspense, I was totally engrossed by this story.
I really enjoyed the addition of Moose and Penelope Jacobs and their pet! There is always an innocent character in Freya’s story that always wins me over and this time it was a donkey.
The banter between the fire department staff made elements of this story very funny and despite their dangerous activities, you could easily feel their camaraderie.
The friendships and bonds which developed between the women were also enjoyable to witness and despite the racial message running through the story, the book was overall very lighthearted and enjoyable to read.
The twists in this tale just adds spice to an already exciting and adventurous tale
that will shock you. I highly recommend this tale and eagerly await the next book in this series.

Wow once again Freya Barker has made me fall in love with her with characters. I couldnt put this book down. From the moment I started until I finished it. Tahlula who leaves her home to escape everything and in doing so meets Evan he is drawn to her but feels she needs to much until her life is on the line and he knows she needs him as much as he needs her. This is a must read!!
Freya has once again given me exactly what I love about her stories. She incorporates that right amount of romance, mystery, suspense and steam. Her characters have depth, personality and real life problems. This is Tuhlula and Evans story.
Tahlula is a best selling author that has decided that the city life full of hustle and chaos is not for her anymore . She has recently discovered that her agent is missing and she now feels that she needs to get out of the spot light. She has taken up residence in Durango. Evan is a firefighter and has had his share of heartbreak. He may have gotten a raw deal in the past but he is a great man .They have an immediate attraction but it soon becomes apparent that her city life may have found her!! Loved it !!!

This book was the perfect amount of romance, suspense and action. Who knew an author and a firefighter could have such a perfect romance? Tahlula has had a tough life, her mom died when she was young but had a very overprotective brother take care of her. He’s still watching over her despite her frustration with it. She has made a name for herself and found herself on the Best Selling list. She’s comfortable in her life until her agent comes up missing… This is when things get uprooted in her life. Fires are breaking out around the area but this is just the tip of the iceberg for the book. There’s someone after Tahlula. She has no idea why. Evan is a firefighter/Emt in the area. He meets Tahlula and instantly can’t get her off his mind. There’s a connection between them. They are seriously the cutest together. He is protective of her and has good reason for it. This is when things get good. The action picks up a lot but it doesn’t stop Evan and Tahlula from connecting even more. The families are bonded as co workers as well. This was a perfectly written with characters you will fall in love with and want to live in the town with as well.
Whew! Tahlula has a lot going on! I really enjoyed this story & Evan makes a really great book boyfriend! Heh. I love the sense of family woven into the storyline, along w/ he romance and drama going on. As is a staple of these stories, that drama comes outside of the relationship & Evan & Tahlula work together along w/ the supporting cast to get through the things going on. It makes for a very good reading experience!! 🙂
This story has steam, humor, action, a pupper, some cute kiddos, family… and Trunk, who gets his own book next month! ; ) Thumbs up!!! : )
Pretty good book. Tahlula is pregnant by artificial insemination because she didn’t need a man to have a baby. She is an author and she’s bi-racial and her brother Trunk (Titus) is with an MC club. Another fantastic book by Freya Barker. If you are a fan of Susan Stoker, well they are in the same league. This book is emotion inspiring and full of amazing plot details.
