After the events in book one, both Raven and Nathan are pretty banged up but Nathan has no choice but to go and save his nephew, Ty. Colton gives Nathan some supplies but also asks Raven to go with him. They set out into a world forever changed by the EMP. Apart from trying to navigate a land decimated by the detonation, they are also trying to navigate through fires and dead bodies, but the biggest threat seems to be humans! They quickly realise that Ty may have been taken by professionals, but just who they are and what they want remain a mystery…. that is until they are ambushed and they manage to capture one of the thugs.
Meanwhile, Nathan’s sister and the new Secretary of Defense is trying to evade the North Korean sub, while also trying to track it, and has to try to heal the injuries she received when the bomb detonated at the bunker. She is also dealing with the fact that her son is still missing and she hasn’t heard from her brother. All she sees everyday is her beloved US coming undone. How can they bounce back from this?
On top of that, Colton is dealing with his own problems back at Estes park. When their food and supplies are stolen, Colton is fired from being the chief of police, but he knows that Don isn’t the best choice and has to take steps to try to keep the town together.
I started this straight after finishing book 1 and in a way I’m sorry I did because now I have to wait till book 3 comes out!!! Plus with the news at the moment about the North Korea threats and the violence that is happening from supremacist groups, it just makes this book a little too real!! It scared the crap out of me, not in a horror book way, but in a real life scenario. The author has created an all too real feeling book and one that is something that could happen!!
I only started reading this authors work at the start of the year, even though I did have his books on my kindle for ages, but he has quickly become one of my favourites. He has created some of the most memorable characters I have ever read!! They are extremely well written and developed and I loved pretty much all of them. He made it so easy to become invested in both the story and the characters. On finishing the book my first thought was oh god, this is too close to the truth, then I cried because….. well something happened that made me go NOOOOOO, then I went damn you Nicholas Sansbury Smith, then I just sat there and thought what can read now that can top this! It’s a testimony to this authors writing skills because it made me feel so many emotions!!!
Anyway, this book was amazing. It’s action packed, filled with so many tense and edge of your seat moments that you will not be able to put it down, and absolutely terrifying! I bought both the ebook and the audio and know I will have to get the physical books for my shelf, it’s just that good!!! Highly recommend this series and this authors work
General Fenix of the Sons of Liberty a white supremacist group kidnapped several kids, on of them being Secretary of Defense Montgomery’s son Ty and they want 10 million in gold bars to give home back. Raven and Nathan set out to find him. Meanwhile the Koreans have attacked one of America’s cargo ships loaded with food and water. Also the Mayor appoints Don as the new Police zchief instead of Marcus Colton. So he tuns in his badge and so does Detective Lindsey. There is a whole lot of action, some Twists and there are people in town I do not trust. This was another great read.
Having loved the first book, I couldn’t wait to see what happened next.
All across the country, people are struggling to survive and find some sense of normalcy. An EMP attack that sent life as they new it into a tailspin was just the beginning of their problems. Now facing threats from others wanting what little bit they have, the isolated mountain community also faces fights within. Who survives? Who dies? it’s anyone’s guess.
Once again I’m immediately sucked into the story. As the author takes me from group to group, back and forth across the country, the suspense builds, the danger threatens, and I almost lean forward towards the book, excited and worried about the characters.
Another thrilling, can’t put down installment in this series. And I’m already deep into the next one.
I’m finding myself loving this series just as much as the author’s Hell Divers series. Nicholas Sansbury Smith creates such a realistic environments and relatable characters. NSS is definitely one of those authors that I will blindly buy books from without reading the description, because I already know I’m gonna like it!
In this book, Raven and Estes Park face even bigger threats. As if surviving an EMP wasn’t bad enough, Estes Park is now having to deal with raiders while Raven and Maj. Sardetti try to find and rescue the Major’s nephew from a group of racist skinheads.
Can’t wait to start book 3 first thing in the morning. Another great story by Nicholas Sansbury Smith, and a great narration by Bronson Pinchot!
Dark. Intense. Savage. This second book of the Trackers trilogy begins only five days after the initial North Korean EMP attack and the small town of Estes Park is already devolving. Despite Chief Colton’s best attempts to keep law and order, the atrocities keep coming. Potent suspense, meticulous research and superb writing combine to make this story some of the author’s best work. Do not browse past this series!
What a great sequel Nick Smith has written. Talk about wringing a reader’s emotion; going from tragedy, elation, frustration to tears, Nick has it all. Estes Park has to deal with fire, theft, death and a surprising battle for leadership plus Raven is off on a mission to find the Secy’s son. A mission with surprising consequences. An amazing book and a fantastic author. Can’t wait for the next.
This is the second installment of the Survivalist series about Estes Park CO after an EMP attack by North Korea.
Not quite as good as the first of these books. Still a pretty good read.
