A Riveting Cold-Case Mystery from Dee HendersonEvie Blackwell loves her life as an Illinois State Police Detective . . . mostly. She’s very skilled at investigations and has steadily moved up through the ranks. She would like to find Mr. Right, but she has a hard time imagining how marriage could work, considering the demands of her job. Gabriel Thane is a lifetime resident of Carin County and … lifetime resident of Carin County and now its sheriff, a job he loves. Gabe is committed to upholding the law and cares deeply for the residents he’s sworn to protect. He too would like to find a lifetime companion, a marriage like his parents have.
When Evie arrives in Carin, Illinois, it’s to help launch a new task force dedicated to reexamining unsolved crimes across the state. Spearheading this trial run, Evie will work with the sheriff’s department on a couple of its most troubling missing-persons cases. As she reexamines old evidence to pull out a few tenuous new leads, she unearths a surprising connection . . . possibly to a third cold case. Evie’s determined to solve the cases before she leaves Carin County, and Sheriff Thane, along with his family, will be key to those answers.

I hope there will be a lot more in this series. I love the way they pray in these two books. Watching the way her mind works in solving cold cases is amazing.
Favorite author!!!
The plot was excellent and the characters were well developed. Realistic portrayal of modern difficulties encountered in the world today.
Another good read by Dee Henderson.
Great book,, author!!! Can’t get enough and don’t want to put it down!!!
Dee Henderson paints the way guilt can affect a persons life as they work through it.
Very Good! I love all of Dee Henderson’s books.
As always, Dee Henderson has written a compelling mystery/suspense. I was drawn in from early on and looked forward to seeing how things were resolved. I definitely did not have it figured out! I have to say, I was disappointed that the Evie Blackwell books are written more in the vein of her more recent novels and not in the vein of the O’Malley series and Uncommon Heroes books. I find the main characters in her more recent novels to be less ‘relatable’ than the characters in her earlier books. I still think she is a fantastic writer, but I do wish she would go back to the previous type of characters. I recommend this book based on the suspense. I would not recommend it based on the characters.
Dee Henderson is one of my favorite authors, but this book was one of her best! So many plots were intertwined, and the outcomes were not predictable. Totally recommend this one.
