‘Tower of Thorns’ is the first book in Laura Greenwood’s “Once Upon an Academy” series where the fairy tale characters I grew up reading about going to try and avoid their fate. What an interesting concept, right? Rapunzel’s mother has controlled almost every aspect of her life until she enrolled at Grimm’s Academy. Literally, no parties, no balls, no outings whatsoever. If Rapunzel made friends it was because she wasn’t using her time wisely and studying hard enough. If she didn’t have any friends, it was because she wasn’t trying hard enough to be social. There seemed to be no pleasing the woman. Then she went to Grimm’s Academy and met Gavin. She really liked him but didn’t want him to get hurt in her prophecy. Sometimes Fate will have its say. This was a fun read and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Tower Of Thorns by Laura Greenwood is a wonderful story that I have read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I have loved reading and I am hooked can not wait for next book. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romances.

A retelling of Rapunzel in an academy setting. Awesome premise. Meh execution. Reasons: insta-love, sticking closely to the original fairy tale with no twists, insta-friendships, heroine perfect and interesting to everyone. Where is the conflict? How old are the students: 16 going on 60? Where’s the teenage drama? And what’s with the pseudo-medieval setting – with servants not helping her with her luggage, yet serving tea? The prologue, which could have just been chapter 1, would normally have made me DNF (typos, the infuriating mother, the self-deprecating MC, etc.), but the premise and short length of the book kept me reading.
I’m not continuing this series.
Rapunzel was sent to Grimm Academy by her mother because of her prophecy. Her mother gets her a tower room. Rapunzel does not know why her mother would want her to live in the tower since this is part of her prophecy. The whole point of going to Grimm Academy is to avoid and stop your prophecy. Rapunzel has never had friends before. She makes lots of friends. She meets a nice boy named Gavin who also has a prophecy. This was a sweet story about Rapunzel with some unexpected twists. This was a quick and pleasant read. The Grimm Academy series has many stories that I look forward to reading.
Imagine an Academy for fairytale kids to help prevent their prophecy from coming true. Rapunzel’s “mother” has controlled her life until she gets to the Academy. She is told no parties, no balls, no outings, and basically no life. It seems like she can’t do anything right. If she has friends, she’s not studying hard enough. No friends and she’s not trying hard enough. I liked how smart she was and made friends left and right, including a guy named Gavin. She figured out how her prophecy began and it’s not too late to try to stop it. This is a really fun series with the fairytales from our past with major twists.
How do you learn to stand up for yourself when your mother keeps smothering you? Rapunzel does not find it easy to defy her mother to her mother’s face, but when a girl is in love …. This was a sweet twist on the classic fairy tale. I am looking forward to more of the author’s retellings.
This is a short but sweet story of friendship, romance, and becoming your own person, rather than what others expect you to be. The romance is a very tender, innocent one between Rapunzel and Gavin at the Grimm Academy, noteworthy as the place to go to thwart your prophecy (or curse, depending on your point of view). And unlike the Grimm story, she doesn’t get pregnant before the prophecy is nullified. Though it seems like she and Gavin are on the way to that ending, presumably after nuptials.
I love fairytale retellings and I love academy reads so this combination of the two is right up my alley and it’s good! It’s well written and the storyline just sucks you into this world. Fantastic characters and twists and turns in this intriguing and fun tale will make you eager to read the rest of the series!
Our heroine (Rapunzel) gets inviting to an academy which might help her avoid her fate.
This is the first book in this series which combines classic fairy tales with an academy setting. The story is well written and easy to read, and it is fun to watch characters that are familiar tell entirely new stories. The setting and characters are nicely introduced and I expect to get a lot more depth to the setting as the series progresses. Here we get a good story with an fairly easy to follow plot that is nonetheless engaging and keeps your interest. Overall, a fun premise and an excellent start to the new series.
Highly recommended

This is a fantastic retelling of Rapunzel with an interesting twist. I loved that the Grimm Academy is where fairy tale characters go to avoid their fate. As always this author’s imagination thrills me as we get to read about some very interesting characters that live in the amazing world of the Grimm Academy. I can’t wait to read more books in this fantastic series.
Short story, with a twist to Rapunzel. Rapunzel is dropped off at Grimm Academy, by her mother. Her mother is overly strict. Rapunzel can’t wait to get away from her. But what will her mother do to make sure she follows her rules? What will happen when she makes friends? What will happen with Gavin who she has become her man? Will the prophecy play out or will it be stopped? Who will win?

I liked this re-telling of Rapunzel but with a twist. It was fun and entertaining. I enjoyed learning and thinking about Rapunzel in a different way. Of course there was some danger and suspense in the story as Rapunzel tries to escape her fate. Loved the other characters as well. Really wanted to know if Rapunzel’s mother was trying to help or not as she was a bit suspicious. But liked the story.
I enjoyed this story. I love fairy tales and enjoy the new versions that come out today. This retelling was great. It was a sweet romance with good descriptive writing and lovely characters. This is the first book in “Once Upon An Academy” series and I am excited and can’t wait for the other stories in this series!

Tower of Thorns
By Laura Greenwood
Most of us know the story of Rapunzel. Ms. Greenwood’s version of the story differs in many respects from the traditional tale. Rapunzel has heard the prophecy about her fate and has learned it by heart. Therefore, when the witch, who Rapunzel thinks is her mother, enrolls her in the Grimm Academy and insists that she be given the tower room, she is puzzled. She thinks that her mother should be doing everything possible to ensure that her fate doesn’t come to pass. Nevertheless, she follows her mother to the tower room, which turns out to be large, with only a small window. Her mother forbids her to attend any balls and instructs her to tell anyone that asks her to go with them that she is betrothed. She also indicates that dance lessons will be stricken from Rapunzel’s classes. Rapunzel is determined to learn how to dance and to attend the balls, regardless of her mother’s instructions.
With a name like the Grimm Academy, you’ll probably think you know the outcome of this story. However, will Rapunzel’s determination to defy her mother change her fate? Read Ms. Greenwood’s book to find out. It’s very well written and has a surprise twist at the end that you should enjoy.

Emotionally thrilling, sexy, fun and action packed adventure that is a exciting new twist on a classic tail. Really enjoyed the engaging charters, witty banter, magical twists, exciting turns and undeniable passion. Was a great read from beginning to end.
This is a sweet retelling of Rapunzel. When I say sweet, it is sweet. There is some tension but not what you would normally expect from this author. There is an undercurrent of danger and mystery and the story itself aimed at younger people, is a good one.

This is a retelling of the Rapunzel fairy tale. It is clean, but still adult or older teen. The characters are well developed and the story world is believable. It is a short, fast read and is the first in a planned series of Academy fairy tale retellings. If you like fairy tale retellings, you’ll enjoy this book!
