Take a trip to exotic South Florida with this dark, funny book that established Carl Hiaasen as one of the top mystery writers in the game. The first sign of trouble is a Shriner’s fez washed up on a Miami beach. The next is a suitcase containing the almost-legless body of the local chamber of commerce president found floating in a canal…The locals are desperate to keep the murders under wraps … the murders under wraps and the tourist money flowing. But it will take a reporter-turned–private eye to make sense of a caper that mixes football players, politicians, and one very hungry crocodile in this classic mystery that GQ called “one of the top ten destination reads of all time.”

Love Carl Haaisen’s books. Always that underlying environmental message too.
A little brutal!
Carl Hiaasen’s books are always a great read!
All off Hiassen’s books set in Florida are worth reading.
As with most Hiassen’s novels of the peninsula aka Florida it’s a fun and crazy time. I look forward to his future writings and have recommended his witty novels to many.
Hiaasen is a master of dialogue. His characters all speak with unique voices and live their own stories. I must admit I like all of his books. They are quirky and often Dark, but there is something very entertaining about the interactions and situations that could only come alive in one of his books.
All Carl Hiaasen books are funny.
Love all of Hiaasen books and this is my favorite.
It was a fun easy read and kept me wondering what would happen next.
Fantastic characters in a really humorous plot.
I’m a big Hiaasen fan, so I’m an easy touch on this one. I enjoy his light — even humorous — approach to his characters and their crimes. I would expect he might enjoy the name Elmore Leonard being mentioned in a review. And, yes, I’m happy to put the two of them in a scarcely populated category of engaging and comfortable crime writers. Highly recommend Hiaasen’s novels.

Fun read
Fantastic dark comedy… If you are new to Hiaasen, start with this book.
A little different than some of author’s other offerings. A bit more serious, but still entertaining
I’ve read everything thing this author has written, absolutely love his books!
