Take a trip to exotic South Florida with this dark, funny book that established Carl Hiaasen as one of the top mystery writers in the game. The first sign of trouble is a Shriner’s fez washed up on a Miami beach. The next is a suitcase containing the almost-legless body of the local chamber of commerce president found floating in a canal…The locals are desperate to keep the murders under wraps … the murders under wraps and the tourist money flowing. But it will take a reporter-turned–private eye to make sense of a caper that mixes football players, politicians, and one very hungry crocodile in this classic mystery that GQ called “one of the top ten destination reads of all time.”

Loved it as well as the other books by Carl Hiaasen
I have read several of his books I don’t Rember how many however, I have never read one I didn’t like
Have read almost all of Carl Hiaasen’s books. Always a great read , a little mystery, mixed with some humorous characters. Terrific writer.
One of the funniest writers ever.
Carl Hiaasen writes like no one else. His characters are always odd balls you come to love or hate and his situations are so common. Having lived through a hurricane and seen the garbage that is drawn in, I can appreciate this story.
I enjoyed the book. It is funny and entertaining as are most of his books,
Excellent read. Quirky and compelling
One of my favorites of all his books! Laugh out loud! His characters jump off the page! Laugh out loud antics! Love this book!
Not as funny or witty as advertised.
Zany!
I always enjoy Carl Hiassen’s books. My only disappointment is that he seems to “wrap up” the story very quickly, and not always as well as I would like.
Another great Hiaasen book.
As always a bit dramatic about the demise of old Florida but that’s what you come to expect from Carl !
Fun to read
Very enjoyable if not the best of Hiassen’s books about Florida and its spoiling by
developers and transplants. Kind of a they paved over paradise and put up a parking lot theme. It is a bit darker than his others. I liked Sick Puppy and Skinny
Dip and Lucky You better, but this is worth reading.
I didn’t think that this was up to his other books.
As usual Hiaasen presents us with the characters, the scenery & the fun of his Florida-based fiction with twist to start and it just better from there!
Like most of Hiassan’s books, great funny read
I had a hard time staying with this book the first half but it finally was enjoyable to the end.
Not his best but still a great way to spend a few hours.
