Take a trip to exotic South Florida with this dark, funny book that established Carl Hiaasen as one of the top mystery writers in the game. The first sign of trouble is a Shriner’s fez washed up on a Miami beach. The next is a suitcase containing the almost-legless body of the local chamber of commerce president found floating in a canal…The locals are desperate to keep the murders under wraps … the murders under wraps and the tourist money flowing. But it will take a reporter-turned–private eye to make sense of a caper that mixes football players, politicians, and one very hungry crocodile in this classic mystery that GQ called “one of the top ten destination reads of all time.”

took to long to explain but after was interesting.
Bizarre. Interesting but twisted characters.
loved this book
Hiasson is an inventive, imaginative writer. Florida has a lot of lunatics in this book.
Love all of Carl’s books
An hysterical romp. All the crazies in Florida brought to life along with their scams. Hiaason brings his wit to make readers laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.
Violent. Thought there would be some comedy
Strange and haunting picture of South Florida with over the top characters. Worth the read.
I am currently rereading this book and enjoying it once again. I love the characters that inhabit Mr. Hiaasen’s books. They are ordinary people thrust into strange situations.
Don’t waste your time or money on this one.
I love Carl’s books and this was no exception. Great sense of humor.
One of the best writers I’ve ever read. Just wish he would write more. Funny as hell.
Absolutely no one can out do Hiaasen for wit, characters, and plots. Beyond theater of the absurd.
So funny!
I love everything this person has written
Very cute read
Hiaasen has a very special way to communicate his displeasure in the plight of Florida.
Very strange story line but interesting.
His books are a lot of fun!
This is Hiaasen at his zany best.
