Damaged. Broken. Complicated.
When ex-con Nathan comes to Shakedown looking for a second chance to start over, he never expects to fall for a flirty burlesque dancer. His past is dangerous, and he will fight their attraction. But the reckless vixen is all in. She can’t help but fall for the wounded man.Nothing will stop her from getting what she wants. Not even a mob family.
Well, well, well…wasn’t Tough Luck the perfect blend of everything I read romance novels for!
Midnight Starr is definitely the kind of feisty, take no prisoners heroine I love and Nathan, is struggling and damaged but certainly has his priorities in order. They are perfect together and compliment the other cast of characters to start this multi-layered romance series.
Starr is one of the triplet sisters that will ‘star’ in this series, but Shakedown (the burlesque club) is the foundation upon which all of these slightly broken souls will come together to form unshakable bonds and think of themselves as family.
I’m beyond anxious to see where these sisters and the men that love them, take us. Trust me, this is one you won’t want to miss, I couldn’t put it down.
This book made me sad but I loved it and read it in one sitting. Nathan is such a good guy and he deserves so much more than life has dealt him, but Starr was the perfect person to give him hope and love and family. The ending was lovely but I am not sure we have seen the last of Ruark and the relationship with Declan was a big surprise. The ending was not quite what I was expecting but I am sure Elizabeth SaFleur will not disappoint at the end of the series.
Wow, Tough Luck has everything in it! The title really does describe the luck some of these characters have. It’s impossible not to cheer for the characters. I’m curious where this series will head next.

Tough Luck is a new book in the Shakedown series. The Tough Road prequel introduced us to the Shakedown club and gave us a small introduction to Nathan and Starr. I loved the idea of the plotline, but it just fell short for me.
The story had all the framework and character background that I had hoped but I just could not connect with Nathan and Starr as I had hoped. My issue with Nathan is just a personal preference. While he had some characteristics, he was missing the parts that I love about an alpha hero. He obviously liked Starr but every time he had contact with her it just always seemed awkward. I understand he did not want to get involved because of his past but I felt like Starr was more alpha.
Starr’s character was good but honestly those triplets annoyed me. The whole storyline with their dad made me dislike Luna and sometimes Starr. First, how could you see firsthand what happened to your sister and want to be around that man. I wanted to punch Luna for blindsiding her sisters while trying to find him. She seemed so heartless and delusional and it bothered me Starr went with it. I also did not like that Starr was keeping secrets from her sisters about their dad. This whole topic and how they handled it was just a trigger for me.
My personal preferences definitely affected me liking this book. If anything I said does not bother you then I think you should definitely give it a try.
