Okay this is one of the example why I should not trust a “rating” on Goodreads anymore.
I requested this book as a review cop, because it has such a high rating on Gooodreads and even better on amazon.
I should have known once I read the prologue and read the word Fu$k at least twice that something is up, considering it is labeled YA. Now I don’t mind, even as a mom, (my kids know better), but I know there are some people that mind it.
Anyhow, the rest of the book was just really awful, and I’m really sorry, because I really hate leaving bad reviews but I have to be honest here and wish more people were when it comes to reviews. I have no idea how this book has such a high rating.
To start with, the author spends a lot of time using big long and over used words to describe things, places .events and character’s feelings. The characters themselves seemed blah and very two dimensional. I found it very hard to connect to any of them.
It sure seemed they seemed to stare and “gaze’ at each other a lot throughout the book.
Here are just a couple examples:
“My eyes were lost in his and his in mine, exploring unknown places, and I feared I wouldn’t be able to contain the emotion that flooded through me.”
“From that distance, the intensity of his gaze almost hurt.”
“His gaze was like a lasso around my heart. Powerful and dark. For a second I thought I was lost in forbidden and unknown realms.”
It sure seemed like throughout the whole book the word “GAZE” was used a million times.
But I think what bothered me the most about a book was the second Gemma sees him, not even speaks to him she is completely losing herself. She doesn’t even know yet if he is real or not (her words) and yet she is so fixated on him for weeks. Four in fact, it goes so far that she is pulling away from her best friend over a guy she saw for maybe a minute and don’t know if he is real or she was just seeing things. What kind of “role model” is she supposed to be?! A guy defines who you are and what you do in life. Don’t think for yourself. And it is completely okay for him to show up at night while you sleeping and watch you?! Stalker …. Not boyfriend material.
Overall the book was just not my cup of tea, way to much angst, even for a YA …… way to many overused words. The characters are just blah or can’t think for themselves.
They story leaves much to desired for and often didn’t make sense. Why would the Angle of Death and his buddies have to enroll in High school, just so he can be close to her??? There are plenty of other ways to do that.
I might be just all wrong and am the only one who doesn’t like it but this book was definitely not for me. I also would not recommend it to any of “my” friends.
I rate it 1 ½
This story left me guessing for so long. It reminds me a lot of another series called Fallen. I don’t want to give a lot away but if you like Angels and Demons you will love this series. I couldn’t put the book down.
Words cannot explain how original the Touched Saga truly is! A Gripping story that will leave you wanting more! Elisa S. Amore
Loved this book!
Love the storyline and the pace the story unfolded. The characters came alive on the page.
I really, really loved this book. Evan and Gemma are both exceptional characters, and I especially loved the dark, tense atmosphere it took on.
Touched – The Caress of Fate is Book 1 in The Touched Saga. This is a well-written story with well-developed characters. Gemma and Evan’s story is one of true love and going along on their journey was an emotional rollercoaster. This is a book that you will definitely remember long after turning the last page. I am looking forward to the next book in the saga to see where Elisa Amore is going to take us. If you are looking for a love story that will touch your heart, then Touched is the book you want.
excellent concept and it keeps building and building. Action packed, you’ll be on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book!!! It WAS excellent but after the 20th time the “heroine” gets kidnapped or nearly dies or gets rescued AGAIN I just QUIT. It just went ON AND ON, I read the last ch. and was DONE. I don’t really CARE about the middle material I kept TRYING but it was more of the same. The ending was good. I’d actually like to see WHAT’S next.
I read this series twice. The first time I flew through it, the second time I slowed down and took in the details a bit more. The connection between Evan and Gemma is instantaneous. He’s an Angel of Death, a Subterranean, and she is a human whose number has been called. Evan is the one who has to kill her, but he can’t bring himself to do it. So he takes on a human guise to figure out why he’s so drawn to Gemma and why he can’t seem to bring himself to do his duty when he has never questioned it before. She’s just as drawn to him. And she can see him in his ethereal form. Evan, along with his family of Subterranean brothers Simon and Drake and his Witch sister Ginevra, decide to protect her instead. They are going to keep her alive at all costs, even their lives. This series is about the unbreakable bond between family, lovers, and friends. And how far they’re willing to go to protect one another. You will love this book and the next book is even better. (don’t forget the novellas!!)
OMG!!!! I could not put this book down. You get to see the story through both Evan and Gemma’s POV. This is a great book to begin a great series!!!!

The world the author created is marvelously dark and mysterious. Such a gruesomely dark and passionate read. I have never fallen so hard for a book before but with this book, it was utterly easy to fall for it. So much awesomeness.
Full of angels, witches, darkness, trust, lies, betrayal, secrets, love, forbiddenness and mystery.
Perfect for readers of dark romantic fantasy/paranormal romance/gothic romance.
