My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy — a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody’s head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.
But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. … Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I’m determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why — especially since I should have been the one who died…

Touch of Frost felt fresh and original, yet filled with interesting mythical creatures and lore that we’ve read about for ages. Gwen Frost and her gypsy gifts make for a very good read. Gwen doesn’t even really know why she’s attending this crazy academy for warriors so it was fun to follow along and crack the mystery with her. The content matter was dark and mature for a story set in a magical high school, which I liked a lot. The audio narration was also well done!
Solid beginning of a series. Very interesting mythology thats decently fleshed out. To be honest the sex references were most frequent in this book, but no sex scenes or any detailed descriptions of sexual things. There was a lot of “my gypsy gift” and “yucko” which kinda did get annoying, but aside from that it’s a pretty interesting book as well as series.
I suggest this for perhaps 15 or 16 and up.
I love mythology-based books and this one was fun to read. Gwen has a lot of quirks and I think that just add a bit more to her character. She’s a loner, not necessarily by choice, but she’s a comic nerd, has the stereotypical teen dislike of rich kids with all their designer clothes, money, etc. and feels really out of place with them at Mythos Academy. They’re also the typical snobby, mean kid clicks that shun and mock her because she’s different than them – not rich, dresses in jeans and hoodies, and does not have their talents. Though she has her own unique gift – Gypsy magic, touch magic; she’s all alone. She does use her touch magic to find things for the other kids for money – like lost cell phones, jewelry, etc., and she give half of her money to her grandmother, but the others find her weird and don’t like the fact that she knows their secrets when she touches something. She also works at the academy library as part of her conditions for attending the school.
In this book, Gwen gets pulled into a magical mystery with the death of one of the mean popular girls. Even though they were not friends, she looks into her death bringing danger, mystery, and a lot more questions. This becomes a real eye opener to Gwen, causing her to really look around and see what everyone has been telling her from the beginning of coming to the academy – magic, mythical warriors, gods and goddesses…it’s all real and she’s smack in the middle of it all.
This was an entertaining read. I enjoyed watching Gwen stumble through the mystery and solve the murder and make a few friends along the way. She gets to learn a bit more about herself and the academy as a whole, as well as finds out a bit more about her mother and grandmother and their connection to the school. And, of course, there’s the bad boy draw with complications. You can tell it’s going to be interesting between Gwen and Logan as the series goes forward. There is definitely more going on with him and it will be interesting to see how Gwen fits into it all.
I love this book
The narrator brings the characters to life.
Gwen grows emotionally throughout the story. Finding her place in the new world she has been thrust into after the death of her mother. She also makes a few friends and learns that people aren’t always whom they appear to be.
I loved this story so much that I will be starting the next book in the series as soon as I finish this review. Great characters, humor, and action.
Gwen is a character I fell in love with.
I gave it 5 to encourage more books from this author. And all that implies.
