Brunton had me on the edge of my seat with this one. I will start by saying that this book does come with trigger warnings that I would recommend that you adhere too, Good now that’s been covered lets get down to the good stuff. This is different to the PNR’s I usually read but I have to say that I couldn’t put it down.
Tortured Innocences has everything I love in a book, raw emotion, strong characters and attention to detail. The story is in first person which I personally love in a book because it makes it easier to relate to characters.
Nicole has experienced her fair share of tragedies and just when you think you know the path the story is going down, the author takes you down a more darker twisted path. Abducted and torture it would appear Nicole is destined to be a play thing for the supernatural.
The one thing that I didn’t expect was the love interest, it didn’t end up being who I thought it was but thats okay because the twists in this story is hat makes it work. I cannot wait to read more for this Author.

THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK: Tortured Innocence
GENRE: Horror
AUTHOR: Shantel Brunton
TROPE: Horror, suspense
TYPE: Standalone
POV: Single POV
MY RATING: 5.0 Stars
There are some intense trigger warning for this book. Readers please keep in mind that this is a horror novel and it may not be suitable for all readers.
This book is about our main character Nicole who witnesses a traumatic event when she was a little girl. The events from her past cause her to suffer from nightmares. To help Nicole heal, her father takes her to a remote mountain area. When our mean heroine is a teenager, she receives a letter that triggers nightmares from her past.
I was utterly terrified while reading this book. Horror is not normally my genre of choice but I was pleasantly surprised how engrossing this book was. The trigger warnings aren’t something that would deter me as I’m a fan of dark romance. I’m glad that the author was up front about those warnings at the beginning of the book. The book itself is fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you’re a fan of horror novels, then you’re going to love this book.
I was provided an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Tortured Innocence – Shantel Brunton
::: SPOILER-FREE REVIEW :::
Rating: 5 STARS!!!!
Soooo… If I was missing some blood and disturbing shit, this book provided enough for the next year or two. lol
It’s always hard for me to review a book like this. I don’t want to say too much and spoil anything but I also want to give readers a sample of what to expect. I will say that this book was very well written. The pace was fantastic. The plot was engaging and had me hooked from page one, and don’t think that because of that shit, this was an easy read, because it was not!
Take it seriously if you’re really triggered, because this book took all the triggers warnings, and threw them out of the window!
It was dark. It was twisted. It was gritty. It was gross. It was f-cked up. It had twists and turns. Blood and gore. Pleasure and pain. and I LOVED every single minute of it.
What was happening to Nicole will leave you shouting, “WHAT THE FUCK????”. Shantel really pushed the limits on this one, to the point where I would probably count this book as horror more than anything else.
This was truly fucked up….
And absolutely brilliantly sickening…
So if anything, I would say this book is a slap in the face.
And with that, I am going to leave my review pretty vague. This is a book that needs to be experienced without too many spoilers. I’d recommend you heed the warning given because this isn’t one for the faint of heart.
So if you’re bored with happy-rainbow-puppies-la vie en rose books, I definitely would recommend this one.
