“I just wanted to help heal him, but in the end, he broke me.”Ryan Blake is off limits. She is everything I shouldn’t want, but do.She’s my best friend’s sister, so feelings for her are out of the question. Her passion and fire trigger a spark in the dark hollows of my heart. Now she’s turning eighteen, and my resolve is starting to wear thin. I know I don’t deserve her, but I can’t walk away.No … don’t deserve her, but I can’t walk away.
No matter how my heart aches for her, I know I’ll tear her heart in two.
Author’s Note:TORN and TATTERED are companion novellas to the Heart’s Compass series. You do NOT need to read the Heart’s Compass books in order to enjoy the Tattered Heart duet.

Ryan and Mav are seriously adorable. You see the push and pull they both go through not wanting to Dean.
But they have something that you don’t find very often, there connection is strong and so deep and real. They just open up to one another so well, and find peace.
Though you can just tell with these two something is going to be so heartbreaking for a while.
I can not wait to open up part 2 of the duet!!
The writing is phenomenal!
5 stars!
Torn was a page turner! With each page I wanted, needed more of Maverick and Ryan.
There is such a magnetic pull between the two of them. I just couldn’t get enough!
The ending… Oh the ending. That is all I shall say.
If you are looking for a quick read with all the feels, this is it!
*Note: this is the first book I’ve read by Brooke and it won’t be the last!
When I read the name of this book “Torn” I kept on wondering why the author chose that name? Well i discovered why after finishing the book.
Maverick is in love with his best friend Dean’s sister Ryan but he has to keep it to himself because he knows Dean won’t approve of his feelings towards his sister.
I absolutely found this book a great read and yes it left my heart Torn at the end!! The ending of this book had me crying my eyes out and it left me wanting more, Luckily for me i had the next book witch is Tattered otherwise it would of kept my heart Torn in two pieces and guessing what happens next!!

“I just wanted to help heal him, but in the end he broke me.”
I’ve had some internal discussions with me on how to rate this book. On the one hand I enjoyed reading it, on the other I wish some things had been done different. I know this is “only” a novella and therefore it can’t deep dive in certain topics or make a huge roll-out of the whole story-line. However the most important thing that IMO was missing, is the part where Ryan and Maverick fall in love. Maybe it’s there, but I didn’t feel it.
“She was my mirage of walking contradictions…”
Ryan is a very complex character and I think a novella doesn’t do her justice. We get only a glimpse here and there why she is the way she is and her love for sketching. I love that she’s witty and independent, but I don’t feel her connection to her twin brother Dean. That’s kind of sad as twins always have a special connection.
“He’s always had the ability to take my breath away, feeling like the wind was knocked out of me.”
Maverick – to the outside world he seems to stand for trouble even though he’s no bad boy. He’s grounded but defined by loss. He’s loving and caring and always tries to do the right thing, to do what’s expected. As well as Ryan he’s complex and I wish we could dive deeper into his mind.
“I’m scared that I’ll never be able to heal my torn heart because I know he’ll be the only one who can.”
Torn has great potential within the lines and Brooke gave us a great introduction into the world of Ryan and Maverick. Maverick struggling to find his worth and Ryan who’s brave enough trying to help him even if it means tearing up her heart. A forbidden love which seems to have no chance for an happy ending.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I’m hooked into Ryan and Maverick’s story. He’s best friends with her twin brother. She’s had a crush on him for years. Now they are both 18. If only there weren’t so many things standing in their way.
Fantastic duet that left me wishing they were longer because I wanted so much more. I’d love to see what happened in the four years Ryan and Maverick were apart as I’m left with questions. These two books are emotional and hot quick reads that give you a great taste of what this author can deliver
What’s worse than falling in love with your best friend’s sister? How about keeping it to yourself and hoping that things work out? Torn by Brooke O’Brien tells the story of two people so clearly in love that they’ve reached their own breaking point.
Maverick’s been in love with Ryan, his best friend Dean’s twin sister, since the day he first met her. As hard as he tries he can’t keep his feelings hidden form her forever. With a disastrous family life, he seeks comfort in Dean’s family and Ryan’s presence. The internal struggle of wanting to tell Ryan how he really feels and not wanting to get punched in the face by Dean’s over protective side causes an internal war that Maverick deals with daily. On the night of Dean and Ryan’s 18th birthday, actions are taken that will change everyone’s lives
Ryan isn’t your typical girl. This tomboy turned girly girl knows how to make all of the boys want her without ever going too far with a guy. With an intense over protective brother that scares off any boy that gets within a 5-foot radius, Ryan has had to learn to get creative. Not that she’s ever had to as her heart already belongs to someone; Maverick. He tries to hide it but she’s picked up on the attention he gives her, and she isn’t completely hiding her interest either. The night of her 18th birthday, Ryan decides to see just how far she can push him and maybe, just maybe, can finally get him to make a move.
I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars. This romance is sweet but with a sexy side that can be seen coming from a mile away (I mean bad boy and good girl plus best friend and best friend’s sister, recipe for a love story). The story line moves rather quickly and with the chapters alternating perspectives, the reader gets full coverage of this story. Torn is the first book in a three-part series that seems promising to only heat up as it goes along, bring with it more heart aching drama for them.
**Review by Sasha, Late Night Reviewer for Up All Night w/ Books**
Beautiful and emotional the story of these two reaches in and grabs you from the start and doesn’t let you go. Their being together is taboo, his best friends sister. His hard life may be what tears them apart. Young love is so special. She tried to heal him and now she’s broken and torn.
Love this author and even though this book is much too short (it’s that good but yeah kinda short too). This isn’t a standalone read so if you don’t like a continuing story you have been warned. Can’t wait to read more of their story.
