Tormod is book 4 in Hazel Hunter’s time traveling highlander series and should really be read in order. The books are essentially one big story with different main characters that build upon the story of the last set. And the others are good books too, so why wouldn’t you read them? 🙂
Tormod is the epitome of the odd man out: a viking among Britannia warriors. He lives up to that many times over and you can’t help but to ache for and share his sense of loneliness. Jema felt like a reward for him, and I really enjoyed her. The relationship between her and her twin brother was one of the best in the series so far as I’m concerned and I look forward to seeing Gavin get his happily ever after next.
The pair had a battle, as they all do, but this one was even more ‘mystic’ than the last and that made it even more fun. No spoilers, just saying it’ll be trip.
If you like time travel, druid magic, immortal highlanders, steamy romance, and interfering gods, this is a book for you!
I like all of her books. Unfortunately it’s been a while since I read this book. But I do enjoy the time to have a Books and she is wonderful writing them
First of all – a great story. I know I can count on Hazel Hunter to provide a time travel that doesn’t turn the woman into a lost cause. Whatever the woman was in the current time, some of those skills come in handy in the past. Also there is always a great hero to fall for.
I did read the story but I loved the audio version. The narrator made it come alive and I can do something mindless while listening to a good story.
I’m relatively new to audio but I’m enjoying it. This has a HOT Scot doing the narration and that sure doesn’t hurt. On the downside, I sometimes have to re-listen to the first chapter to get into the accent and story. This doesn’t bother me at all. I just get to listen a bit longer.
Tormod and Gemma are well suited and both are likable characters. Highly recommended.
This series just gets better and better. Tormod and Jema are an awesome couple with many trials in their future. When Tormod rescues Jema, he doesn’t realise that her twin brother Gavin also came through the portal. This double arrival leads to a climax that is unexpected, but also gives Tormod some form of closure from his past. I couldn’t put this book down. The emotions that Hazel puts into her characters, makes you want to be a part of their lives to lend them support. I loved this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Tormod is such a sweetheart! Really good addition to the series – wishing for that .5 star. Well edited.
Tormod is not an true part of the clan. He is actually a Viking, who was captured and held as a slave for 10 years by the McDonnel clan. When the Romans came, he was released to fight them, and bore the same fate as the rest of the McDonnel clan. However, he has spent the last 1,000 years looking for the remains of his sister. Enter Jema and Gavin, twins from the 21st Century. They fall into Tormod’s world, and the adventure begins. I didn’t quite understand how Tormod missed finding Gavin, but such is the twist in the plot.
Honestly, this really makes you feel for Tormod. He is such a good soul – always putting the good of others before himself, whether that be his sister, the druids, the McDonnel’s, or really humankind. He is almost an island unto himself, and it seems no one really notices.
While I really enjoyed Tormod’s story, I also felt like it was more to move the story along to Gavin’s tale. I didn’t understand how the twin connection could be so detailed, but that neither twin felt that there was some possibility that the other wasn’t dead. I guess we will see how that play’s out in Gavin’s story. Enjoy!
Hazel’s stories keep getting better and this one just follows that trend. We have a pair of twins, from Scotland no less, who go back in this time but they get separated. Tormod, the Viking, finds the lass and the brother is on his own. What’s discovered later on is that the newcomers are both Druid & Viking descendants and this time it’s the Norse gods who are calling the shots. This story is Jema’s and the next story is her brother Gavin’s.
I received an ARC of this story and have voluntarily chosen to review it here.
Good, but not great. Seemed to have missed a lot of opportunities to make the story better including a prologue.
Love all of her books I’ve read in this series.
This story was one of action, and wonder. Liked the characters and the story.
ANOTHER FABULOUS ADDITION TO THE SERIES & MY NEW FAVORITE !!!
Title: Tormod
Series: Immortal Highlander
Author: Hazel Hunter
Designation: Book Four of Series, Full-Length Standalone, No Cliffhanger, Medieval Historical/Time Travel/Fantasy Romance
Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Five Sexy Riveting Stars*****
**Disclaimer: Although there is an underlying interconnected storyline running throughout the series, each release focuses primarily on one couple finding love and their happy ending. I believe each of the books can still be read as standalones. The author does a fabulous job of giving the reader sufficient backstory, but I recommend reading the books in order of their release. It’s one decision I’m sure you’ll rever regret.
Oh my! I loved, loved, loved this book! I’m fascinated by stories featuring mythology, folklore, and fantasy, adore Time Travel Romance, infatuated with Medieval Historical Fiction, addicted to steamy romance, obsessed with strong, sassy heroines, completely smitten with sexy Scottish Highlanders from any century, and when I can find it all in one great read, I’m in heaven! And that’s exactly what Hazel Hunter delivered – AGAIN! Hunter picks up the pace, kicks up the heat, and doubles the stakes in Tormod, the fourth riveting release in her mega-popular, can’t-put-down Immortal Highlander Series! There are so many things I truly enjoyed about this book (and series), so let’s talk details!
Tormod is a captivating, imaginative, unique, fast-paced, exceptionally well-crafted and edited, full-length standalone historical medieval time travel romance with paranormal, supernatural, and fantasy elements and filled to the brim with compelling drama, pulse-pounding danger, edge-of-your-seat action, daring adventure, nail-biting suspense, heart-wrenching angst, steamy passion, and heartwarming romance. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with multiple perspectives and this story had quite a few. I stopped counting at eight! lol… In some instances, multiple points of view can be somewhat confusing to a reader if not skillfully written, but Hunter does an excellent job, and all the perspectives are clearly discernible. I always enjoy stories written with clearly defined multiple perspectives. It allows me to know the thoughts of all the primary characters, not just the protagonists, and I especially enjoy when we know what’s going on in the convoluted minds of the bad guys. I think it adds so much more depth and understanding of the story. The dialogue is smart, snappy, and flows effortlessly. Obviously, Hunter did her research. I found the language and terminology of the era to be articulate, exceptionally well executed and authentic to the era. In other words, Hunter’s fourteenth-century characters spoke like fourteenth-century Scottish Highlanders. In reality, none of us would be able to understand an actual fourteenth-century Highlander, but Hunter did make them sound as realistic as possible, which definitely added to my enjoyment of this story. But without a doubt, my favorite element of all Hunter’s books is the characters, and this story is no exception. Hunter gives us a large cast of intriguing, engaging, and well-developed characters who literally explode from the pages, grab your imagination, demand your undivided attention, and completely capture your heart. I fell head over heels for the two protagonists, present-day archaeologist Jema McShane and Tormod Liefson, fourteenth-century former Norse Viking but now immortally cursed member of Isle of Skye Clan McDonnel. OMG! I loved these two characters! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed all the characters but the lovely archaeologist and self-professed ditch digger Jema McShane grabbed me in the first few pages of the book. I was intrigued by both Jema McShane and her twin brother Gavin. And I’ve always had a real soft spot for underdogs, so the reserved loner Viking Tormod Liefson captured my heart when he was introduced as the mapmaker for Clan McDonnel in the first book of the series. I found myself more than a wee bit curious as to how a Norseman ended up as a warrior of the McDonnel Clan, especially since Vikings and Pritani had been enemies for centuries. I was ecstatic when I learned he would have a book of his own and Hunter didn’t disappoint with his story. There isn’t as much humor in this book as the first two, but there’s just as much emotion, if not more since this story includes not one, but two time travelers. Heck, I still have whiplash from all the twists and turns in this story, and there were quite a few scenes that just ripped my heart right out of my chest but by the end, I was happy, satisfied, well entertained, and completely smitten with determined archaeologist Jema McShane and reserved mapmaker Tormod Liefson! Actually, it may be my favorite to date and we do discover how Tormod came to be one of the immortal McDonnel Clan! I don’t really know how to explain it, but this book was so much more – more danger, drama, angst, action, adventure, passion, romance, and just more everything!
Cursed immortal warrior Tormod Liefson was on a quest to find the final resting place of the greatest Viking female warrior and shieldmaiden, Thora the Merciless. Thora was credited with the deaths of more Pritani than any warrior to have ever lived. But Thora the Merciless was more than just a great warrior; she was also Tormod’s younger sister. It had been a thousand years since her death, but he’d made a vow to find her remains and move them to rest next to their parents, a promise he intended to keep. Unfortunately, he could never allow any of his adopted clansmen to know his plans. They would see it as a betrayal since they were Pritani and it was their people Thora had slain. The Vikings and Pritani had been mortal enemies for centuries. He’d been captured and enslaved but had been freed after agreeing to join the Pritani in defending the Druids from the Romans, which is how he came to be cursed with immortal life and now a member of the McDonnel Clan. But after a thousand years, most of his clansmen still didn’t trust him. He was close to finding her grave; he could feel it. But it seems fate has other plans when the earth explodes around him and a beautiful young woman falls into his arms, literally, and crashes into his life. And not just any woman, but another woman from the future. Unlike the three previous women of Druid blood who traveled back in time to the fourteenth century Highlands, archaeologist Jema McShane is a Scot with questionable mixed ancestry and did not come through a portal from America. She fell through time via a portal located at a dig site in present-day Scotland while searching for Freya’s Eye, an artifact thought to be only myth. And she didn’t make the trip alone. Jema’s terminally ill twin brother Gavin McShane was also pulled into the time vortex to the past, but they were somehow separated. Jema is injured during her journey and when she lands in the arms of Clan McDonnel’s only Viking, Tormod Liefson, she has no memories of her past. Jema may not know her name but she arrives in the past with an unexpected and very special new ability. Oh my! Sparks fly and passion ignites between these two unlikely lovers, but fate seems to be against them! Will Jema and Tormod find happiness together? We’ll see!
Did I like this book? No, I loved it! I was glued to my seat, white knuckling my ereader, completely captivated with my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the time flew as quickly as the pages! I could not stop reading! I’m totally smitten with this entire series and can hardly wait to see what Hunter has in store for Gavin McShane in Book 5! Yup, we find out what happens to Gavin in the next book, and I’ve already preordered my copy! Would I recommend it? You bet and I a but only for adult readers since it does contain several explicit love scenes! If you enjoy well-written medieval historical tales with supernatural elements, and liberally seasoned with time travel, action adventure, danger, drama, passion, and romance, then this book is screaming your name! And if you loved the movie and series Highlander, this story will, most likely, tickle your fancy! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! Well done, Hazel Hunter! Well done, indeed! Tormod is my new favorite! Who knew he was such a smooth, silver-tongued devil?!? I have no idea how Hunter will top this book, but I have every confidence she will in Gavin’s story!!!
“Enthralling”
If I was asked to describe the book in one word, it would be “enthralling”! It perfectly describes my mindset when I enter the land of druids, fairy, Highlanders, Wiccans, and of course, the 9th Legion of the undead.
Each time I read a book in this Highlander time-travel series, I think it could not get any better… then the next book comes along and it is even more thrilling and engaging and such is the case with Tormod. I don’t know why I am surprised. Hazel Hunter always delivers a book that compels the reader to carve out time in their busy schedules to become enchanted with the possibility of something beyond our daily lives and to step back centuries to visit a place of few conveniences but great loyalties.
We are introduced to characters we have become familiar with as well as newly arrived visitors who have been welcomed into the clan and have witnessed how their lives have transformed into something better than they imagined. We have become familiar to a brotherhood of alpha males who know what it is to make a commitment and to honor a promise…to stand for all and to cherish their women, their brothers and to protect their lands and it’s inhabitants for generations to come.
If that isn’t enough, we are witness to souls who have sacrificed for centuries to finally be rewarded with things they thought were out of their reach. Each story opens our hearts to embrace these wonderful characters as they move through time and circumstance all the while hoping they will be rewarded with true love so deep it would balance their many heartaches and sacrifices.
Tormod is an exceptional story filled with all these things. A beautifully told story that will stay with the reader for a long time. It should come with a warning: you heart will be touched in ways you may never have experienced.
I was fortunate to receive a reader copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Once again Ms. Hunter has earned all five stars for another of her magical stories that held me captive beginning to the very end….and now looking forward to the next in the series.
The story is so well told, the reader will “feel” the story. It is filled with mystery, intrigue, lust, danger, hope and so much more. There is evil all around and you may not know where it lurks…much less who the enemy is. The interaction between the hero and the heroine is real, and you will find yourself holding you breath as things unfold. A thrill ride from beginning to end all in this stand alone book but is best enjoyed by reading all the stories in order.
