Paths collide for a feisty, independent Congressman’s niece and an enigmatic, alpha-hero. The unexpected chemistry puts a new spin on the line between love and hate.If anyone accused Hazel Levine of being difficult and indecisive they wouldn’t be wrong. Hopping from one job to another and swimming against the expectations of her family has made her a menace to her uncle’s campaign for president. … president. When she attempts to steer a straight line for his sake, she finds herself ensnared in a murder mystery that soon has her in the crosshairs of a killer.
They come from different worlds. She’s a rich girl born with a silver spoon and Special Agent Cox Landon loves to get his hands dirty. With an awarded military career and years of catching criminals under his belt, he’s learned patience, but his steel wall isn’t thick enough to deal with the likes of the spoiled Congressman’s niece. Yet, to complete the deal Cox has forged, he’ll have to tolerate Hazel–at least until he gets what he wants.
Stranded in a snowstorm in a cabin on secluded Pitchfork mountain, with killers on their tail, their survival will be tested, as well as their mutual desire to test the thin line between love and hate.
Cox is willing to do almost anything to taste her amazing lips and touch her wild, red curls. And for Hazel, she’s willing to show him a softer side–show him the real Hazel–hoping he won’t pressure her like her family has done for years. Can he accept her for who she is? Strong-willed. Flawed. And completely indecisive.
Can they dodge the killers and make it out alive? Or is the true danger in what lies in their hearts?

I loved Hazel and Cox’s story. The chemistry between them was explosive. They have a love/hate relationship. When Hazel witnesses a murder, no one believes her, including her uncle. But he hires her a bodyguard to be on the safe side. The bodyguard turns out to be the neighbor she doesn’t like. This story is full of twists and turns. You won’t be able to put it down.
I really enjoyed this book. I feel like it had everything in it. It had suspense, humor, intrigue incredible banter and sexy times.
Here are two people who are both visually interested in each other but yet can’t stand to be in the same room together. They are both alike in so many ways that made it funny. They are both stubborn and want to do things their way.
I liked the character of Hazel. I understood her frustration. She knew she was interested in politics but yet she was floundering as in how exactly to use that interest. She had people all around try and tell her what to do and this just made her lash out.
My heart ached for her for the reason she had to team up with Cox. I don’t want to give away why but to feel what she was feeling when she realized a couple things made my heart hurt.

Hazel and Cox were two so different people she was rich and spoiled and he was very down to earth but tough man. When a guy that worked with Hazel was murdered and she saw the guys who did it she was in a lot of danger her uncle contacted Cox to protect her and get to the bottom of what happened. Cox had wanted his sister who was in prison to get out with the help from the congressman and in exchange Cox would help keep Hazel alive. Little did either of them know there would be a spark when they had to spend some time alone together. Read this wonderful story by Rhonda Lee Carver and find out what happens.
I loved Cox and wished i could be a little like Hazel. Well with Cox around I wish i was Hazel. Rhonda, keep putting them wonderful books out and i will keep reading.
This story will hold your interest from the very beginning. Lots of action and drama. The chemistry between the two main characters is explosive. Twists and turns throughout the plot keep the suspense intense. Don’t miss this one.
Tormented by the Lawman is another great addition to the Mountain Force series. I enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers romance between Hazel & Cox and I look forward to the next book in the series!
I am a big fan of Rhonda Lee Carver. I know when I see her name on a book I will be getting a great story. This one meets my expectations. This one is well written and the characters are realistic. This one isn’t a quick easy read but it is one that I couldn’t put it down. I don’t do spoilers but there is some suspense in this one, get this one and see what I mean. This one is worth your time and effort. Go get this one you will love it.
Hazel Levine has jumped from one job to the next, never quite finding her niche. Her mother drives her crazy with hopes of grandchildren. Her uncle, who’s currently running for President, just doesn’t want her to make his campaign look bad. He loves her and has always been more of a father to her, but she senses his disappointment in her choices. One of her bad choices-accidentally locking herself outside her apartment and her handsome “man-bear” of a neighbor catches her…
Agent Cox Landon, in from a long case, is exhausted and only wants to sleep when he realizes he’s not alone in the hallway. Cox isn’t sure what he’s ever done to make his neighbor dislike him, but it’s evident she does. When she shrugs off his offer for assistance, he goes inside his apartment shutting the door in her face. Fast forward several months…Cox is summoned by the Congressman to provide “protection/babysit” his niece, aka Hazel, as she claims she’s witnessed a murder. The Congressman didn’t realize they knew each other, much less loathed each other. But he offered to help Cox’s sister if he would protect Hazel. Not wanting the possible murder to hurt his campaign, he sends Cox and Hazel off to his cabin in the mountains.
This is the third novel in the Mountain Force series and can be read as a stand-alone. In my opinion, it is by far the best novel in the series! The bickering back and forth, sexual tension, chemistry, suspense, and romance…This novel has it ALL! It even has an adorable puppy, Boxy! Cox realizes he unfairly judged Hazel, as did she. How’s the saying go, never judge a book by it’s cover. It rings so true! I actually liked that they didn’t have their HEA immediately after the main story ended. Love is worth waiting for! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
Such a good story. I so enjoyed the give and take between these two characters – hate and love are sometimes a thin line that is crossed so easily! Action, repartee and politics figure prominently in this book. I really loved it! Great story!
Stephanie thought that she had found her happy never after, but she now finds herself a single mother and surrounded by questions rather than answers surrounding the death of her husband.
Ray is temporarily in town while on leave from the military. Not only was he Stephanie’s brother’s best friend when they were teenagers, but he was attracted to her as well but kept his distance because of her brother.
When Stephanie finds herself in danger there is no one she would rather have on her side than Ray but as the chemistry escalates between them so does the danger. Will they be able to uncover the truth before it is too late?
I am a fan of Rhonda Lee Carver’s books but this may be one of my all time favorites. Hard to pinpoint exactly the why that everyone asks when you say it is a favorite. The opening had me giggling and the moments of giggles/chuckles didn’t stop. Is a rom-com? No, but it is something I can relate to all too well. SARCASM and wit. My friends are easy to dish it out and when you can turn the tables and get them under the gun, laughter will definately be present. This, for me, was the case here. The quips were very realistic. I found myself missing my special retired Air Force friend.
Secondly, the suspense/mystery thread that was presented and the way it kept being brought up in conversation where there could have been silence, arguing and brooding.
Thirdly, the characters themselves. Who doesn’t know someone who everyone considers a little flighty but once you get to know them, there is substance there. Maybe they haven’t found the right fit or maybe trying to please everyone else but never pleasing themselves. We might not know a Navy Seal or someone in a elite task force but the idealolgy and work ethic may not be too foreign for someone we may know or a friend of a friend type arrangement. Both Hazel and Cox were likeable. When I like a character, it makes reading more enjoyable.
Lastly, the scenery. How could you not like reading about the mountains and snow, especially in the winter. I guess I need to say for those of us in the south, snow isn’t something we see very often and therefore, can be enjoyable to us.
Rhonda Lee Carver
LOVE Hazel and Cox!! These two have quite the story and I was left wanting more of them. Hazel is unsure about where her future is headed. She has this degree that she isn’t using , but what she is doing doesn’t seem to be what the family wants. Hazel decides to go ahead and join her Uncles campaign for president, it will make her mom happy and it’s a job. However, the last thing Hazel expects to see is a murder, and the killers know she saw something, but everyone else thinks she’s crazy.
So, with Hazel’s uncle running for president, he can’t let her “stories” make problems…so he brings in Cox. Cox is a special agent who has been busy catching criminals and all he wants to do is get some sleep. When Cox meets Hazel, he realizes this isn’t the first time they met…. MUST READ this book to see what happens. You will not be disappointed!
Cox and Hazel were absolute perfection from the get go in Tormented by the Lawman by Rhonda Lee Carver!
This book was full of twists and turns the entire time, I truly had no idea how everything was going to end up.
I really related with Hazel from the beginning of the book. I have been trying to find my way as well and know how difficult it can be to feel like you don’t really fit or have a place. Cox isn’t looking for commitment and thinks of Hazel as just another spoiled little brat.
These two go through everything together after Hazel witnesses a murder, no one believes her, and Cox is assigned to watch over her.
Cannot say enough good things about this book and Rhonda’s writing abilities. She writes a story that is full of suspense, emotion, and heat that’ll reach in and grab you from the very beginning, keeping you on the edge of your seat, and not letting you up for air until the end.
5 stars!
I so loved the heat between these two. Hazel was a strong stubborn woman but she was no match for “man-bear” Cox Landon. He liked to get her worked up when he had the time. When Hazel stumbled upon a crime and her uncle wanted her safe but out of the way he asked her nemesis to keep her safe. They were like oil and water until things got heated. While unsure if she actually witnessed a crime, Cox was obligated to keep her safe. When you hear the expression about love and hate having a fine line between them they were talking about these two. When the danger was over I thought these two would finally give into the attraction but things didn’t turn out as I expected, it took fourteen months. …not the end but only the beginning
It’s ok to accept help sometimes
Oh my, oh my did I love Tormented by the Lawman. Rhonda Lee Carver has written a story so captivating you get transported into the story. Emotion, passion, lawmen and troublemakers this is a book you will fallin love with.
Special Agent Cox Landon is not happy when he’s assigned to “babysit” a Congressman’s niece after she allegedly witnesses a murder. To make matters worse, she turns out to be his ex-neighbor Hazel Levine…a rich spoiled brat! Unfortunately, he must do so in order to get her Uncle to help him get his sister released early from prison. The more time he spends with her, he realizes she’s not the spoiled brat he thought she was and that she just might be telling the truth about the murder. Things start to get out of control when the chemistry between them heats up! A great read to see if he can save her from the people who are after her!
Hazel is a klutz and doesn’t like her neighbor and when she sees a murder none believes her. Her uncle gets her a bodyguard and when she sees who it is all hell breaks loose. Agent Cox Landon thinks his neighbor is a spoiled rich woman who has a stick up her butt and when he goes to see what his new job is he tells them no way in hell. But with him being a Agent it’s his job to figure out if Hazel is telling him the truth about the murder. Can he keep her safe and can they deny their feelings for each other? This book was absolutely fantastic and I laughed at her getting locked out of her apartment. I’m clumsy but not that clumsy lol. This book will hook you in from the beginning until the end. Bravo Rhonda Lee Carver for another fantastic book.
Hazel and Cox can’t stand each other as next door neighbors. Hazel starts working for her uncle’s campaign and witnesses a murder but no one believes her. It’s up to Cox to protect her from the enemy.
Tormented by the Lawman
Rhonda Lee Carver
I loved the humor in this book. The bickering between Cox and Hazel was perfect. This I believe is my favorite (until the next one). This proves opposites can attract. I loved the flow of the humor, romance, and suspense. I started it this morning and just finished it. Even read while waiting on my husband to go into the store to buy the lottery tickets.
Another great addition to this series.
No one believed Hazel when she tells them that she witnessed a murder while working on her uncle’s campaign. Why would they? There was no evidence, not even a body.
But to be on the safe side, her uncle hires Cox Landon to protect her. But then they get stranded in the snowstorm. While Cox didn’t believe her either at first, he eventually does. Especially when the actual murderers are after them.
This book has so much action, adventure, drama, and romance. Rhonda’s books never fail to keep me intrigued. I love this book and series so much. I volunteered to read and leave an honest review and this is my own opinion.
