Top Shelf is previously published as Loch and Key, it has a new cover and title. This is the 3rd book in The McLaughlins series and it’s a contemporary romance with a 2nd chance trope.
Navy Chief Brett Craven has been burned twice in the past so he has a real hard time with trusting women. He has no intentions of ever being in a serious relationship again and if he ever gets married again it will be after he retires from the Navy. However, when he meets Kenzie McLaughlin, the youngest of the McLaughlins, a pretty redhead with spunk and when he can’t stop thinking about her he knows he is in trouble.
Kenzie McLaughlin was sexually attacked 9 years ago and it has changed her life. Making her distrusful of men, except her father and brothers. She has not dated since the attack but when tall and drop dead sexy Brett comes strolling into the family pub he doesn’t hesitate to make his interest known. Can Kenzie and Brett let go of their trust issues to find out if they can handle the long haul?
So happy to finally get Kenzie’s book.
Yes!! Kenzie’s story was well worth waiting for! OMG and Brett a Navy man. … Shelli Stevens you just keep getting better and better with each McLoughlin book. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop until the end. We got to catch up with familiar faces and oh fall in love with new ones. If you are not familiar with the siblings no problem at all. Our author fills in all the gaps and lets ya know all the past history that you might have learned in one of the 2 earlier books. Well in accords to Kenzie that is. You really should grabs those books. That are delish. I love the fact that her brothers stand by her so closely and it is amazing that this new man…. well ha ha you thought i was going to keep going right. NOPE you need to grab this book and explore the Navy along side Kenzie as she comes to life again.
I’m a little torn over this one. I was pretty excited about Kenzie’s story. I really liked her in the last two books and I couldn’t wait to read about her and Brett. To me, nothing really was happening until the last 10 minutes of the book and that was pretty rushed. Kenzie did not seem like the same girl in the last two and I was getting a wee bit bored. I didn’t love it or hate it, it was just meh.
Top Shelf by Shelli Stevens is book Three in The McLaughlins series. This is the story of Brett Craven and Kenzie McLaughlin. I haven’t yet read the previous books, so for me this was a standalone book.
This was a really great romance that had two people that have been hurt before one a little more than the other. Brett wasn’t looking for anything real or permanent and Kenzie had been hurt and only trusted the men in her family. Sparks fly and trust starts to be built between the two of them. There was a few hiccups in the building of their trust but in the end love always wins.
Really enjoyed this book!
I fell in love with this series when I read book one , One More Round and then again with book 2, Straight, No Chaser. This one too was a wonderful story about family, love and overcoming fears and adversities.
This story belongs to Kenzie, the youngest sibling and only girl of the family. As a teenager she was attacked and that has made her cautious of men and dating. That is , until Navy chief Brett Craven shows up.
But he too has personal disappointments , trust issues and doesn’t want anything serious.
Watching these two interact and develop feelings , as well as how caring Brett was with Kenzie, was both fun and touching.
It’s a story about taking chances, trusting someone special, letting go of fears, and giving love a chance. It’s also a story about the power of love within a family.
Definitely a story worth your time. Can’t wait to see what Ms Stevens has in store Aleck, the oldest sibling.
I was entrusted this ARC by Netgalley and Tule. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
