5 Star Review of Top Secret by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy
Where do I start? This was one of those little gems that I absolutely adored. From the first to the last chapter I did not want to put this one down. I have absolutely no idea where one author stopped and the other started such was the seamless flow of this story. Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy have written yet another fantastic story which I highly recommend.
These authors are some of the very best writing in the MM genre. This book is funny, steamy, sweet and was well written with characters that were strong and interesting. If I could have read this book in one sitting I would have.
When Luke Bailey and Keaton Hayworth and Luke Bailey “meet” through a dating app discussing the potential for a threesome, I just new that we were in for a fantastic ride and I was not disappointed. I loved how Luke and Keaton started out and how it morphed in to such a swoon worthy story.
The secondary characters were just as good as the Keaton and Luke and I found myself laughing out loud at the most awkward times.
Do yourselves a favour and one click this brilliantly written book as soon as possible, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
The ending ruined the book for me. I found it so convenient. Also, I am not a big fan of the cheating trope.
This book got me through this week. Enemies to lovers are not always my favorite. Well, I say that then I’m always happy when they get to know each other on another level.
I had no idea where this book was going, so I was excited to watch all of the action unfold. I’m also a fan of app communication because that feels real to me. I was just super surprised by this book. It’s fun audio, and I wasn’t disappointed.
This book was hot. M|M
I enjoyed the concept of the book and was super into the sexy scenes. It just proves that I am mostly into the emotional side of sex and reading the rush, thrill and excitement rather than the actual sex itself as this was two males which I’m not normally into
I wished there was a little more character development throughout the book. I found that it wasn’t really written and was more like in the background. They just kinda developed and it wasn’t really explained how. If that makes sense.
Loved how the book explained the feelings of someone who thought they were straight evolve and learn who they are.
Overall was super cute and enjoyed the read.
4/5 stars
/5 spice.
Great book. Hits all the emotional buttons. I was all in on both MCs from the beginning. Liked the choices the authors made and glad they didn’t take the usual, expected path. Will definitely re-read.
Y’all know I love books from Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy, and this one is no exception.
There’s a lot to love about TOP SECRET but one of the most lovely, belly-flipping parts comes from the extensive text messaging between Luke and Keaton before they meet each other. Their connection is so authentic and wonderful, and it makes for a fun re-read after certain… revelations are made by these characters 😉
Another thing I love is the way both Luke and Keaton have distinct, deep stories of their own, separate from their love story. Both of these guys need to figure out their lives and they’re allowed to do that together but also apart.
I don’t want to give too much away because it’s such a fun read and when you realize the thing that will be revealed, it’s so but also and
Here’s what you need to know:
– big feels. so many big feels
– big growth… and no, that’s not a euphemism. not entirely.
– big laughs. the college campus/frat house setting is a delight and I don’t usually reach for books with those settings, so this is high praise from me
– big, happy resolution. it was such a well-earned HEA.
this book is funny, sexy, emotional and hotter than hot. I can’t decide if I like it more when Luke and Keaton are bickering or when they are being flirty through their phones. every aspect of their relationship makes the chemistry better. Christian Fox and Teddy Hamilton are EVERYTHING. Perfect cast, perfect story, just plain prefect.
So I’m totally on a Sarina Bowen kick at the moment. I’ve been chewing through her back catalogue but had to tell you about this one she wrote with Elle Kennedy It’s a corker! I wasn’t sure how this was gonna go as it starts off with Keaton (LobsterShorts) signing up to a hook up app and matching with Luke (SinnerThree) as his girlfriend wants a threesome for her birthday. Now I’m not into reading about cheating and this doesn’t go down that road which I was relieved to see. The text convos between these two start off funny and a little awkward on Keaton’s part but soon move to flirty and then full on sexting! And let me tell you I was here for those sexts…. Phew! Eventually they hook up, obviously, but I’m not gonna give away the intricacies of their story you’ll just have to read it. I really don’t know why MM romance is so freaking HOT but it is and I love reading it. If you haven’t read anything these two have penned together you should definitely check out HIM, US and EPIC a MM sports hockey romance series. Those three books are amazing, I listened to them during lockdown last year and loved them. Clearly Sarina and Elle jam well together. Thanks for another great read ladies.
LOVED IT!
I love this book. It is a GFY, enemies to lovers, secret lovers, wrong side of the tracks-ish love story. It is not angsty. Like the summary says it does not have a love triangle or cheating. It is HOT. I really like the internet/ phone app hook ups. I feel like with the app based relationships tend to build a stronger relationship/friendship. This established texual relationship helped when frat brothers enemies Keaton and Luke found out they were talking with each other. I think the story-line was original and gripping. I could not turn it off. I’ve listened to it twice and it was just as good the second time though. Narration by Teddy and Christian was perfect. They are just the best.
Just absolute catnip for me. Mistaken identities, texting, sort of enemies to lovers. Everything I adore wrapped up in one unputdownable book. <3
I just read this for the second time, and I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed it the first time!
This was first of all an adorable read. I loved how Keaton slowly accepted the revelation of his sexuality. How things came to fall into place when he anonymously got off on a kinky app when he found a match with a guy. Little did he know then that it was his annoyingly neighbor and his opponent to run for the fraternity’s presidency, but he thought the guy was hot and not only that, they also TALKED and felt safe enough to tell each other things they didn’t tell to others in real life.
When they both discovered who their anonymous contact was, of course they both freaked out! But in the mean time a connection had developed and they could not stop liking each other, even if they pretended they could.
Of course most people read Him and since it’s one of the top favorites for most m/m readers (I’m not an exception to that), Sabrina and Elle had to write something incredible to meet the expectations. I think they did a great job in that! I love their writing a lot and I can hardly wait for another one of their collaborations!
This was a sweet enemies to lovers, very well done and so highly recommended!
Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy are duo to be reckoned with! Holy schnikeys! This book was fabulous. The characters were top-notch with out of this world dialogue. The twists and turns were so satisfying and authentic! I will read anything these two put out there. And I hope we get a sequel for LobsterShorts & SinnerThree because they are a beautifully romantic and sweet couple that definitely has a few more ups and downs in their future. As always…can’t for the next one!
Another hit!!
Him/Us is my favorite MM of all time so I *knew* Top Secret was going to be amazing and it it definitely didn’t disappoint!! Luke and Keaton are almost too much swoon for one book. I loved absolutely everything about this story!!
Sarina & Elle write beautifully together! I love how they introduce and promote the idea of sexual individuality and exploration in a positive way. Yes, there are negative people out there who will not accept it, and they are also represented in the story, but they aren’t the focus. I love getting caught up in love and self discovery with them as they introduce us to characters with widely varying and complex histories who come together to make something beautiful – eventually. Let us not forget how HOT the discovery part is.
Teddy and Christian are fantastic narrators who came together beautifully in this story!
A sexual awakening that is steamy, but also full of emotional depth and chuckles along the way.
Keaton is asked by his long time girlfriend for a threesome. They have been dating for almost six years. They were each other’s firsts and only. They not only know everything about each other, they are each other’s best friends, confidants, but a little vanilla in the bedroom. Having Anika ask for this new development throws Keaton, but he will do anything to make her happy and that is what leads him to signing up for an app where you can search for this particular kink.
Using sign on names helps with the anonymity and not getting too in depth with information keeps things casual, but Keaton soon finds himself in deeper with a match on the app then he ever expected. He only meant to screen a match for the threesome with his girlfriend, but things took a different turn when he actually connected with the man on the other end of the messages and for the first time in his life Keaton begins asking himself if he’s in this thing for more than just a threesome. Could he be feeling more than he knows? Is he bi-curious or is this something more?
Luke knows what he is and what he isn’t. He knows he’s bi-sexual and he knows he isn’t rich like most everyone else that attends the university he’s currently a Junior at. He’s barely scraping by, but his job and scholarship helps. Everyone once in a while, when he finds the time for a hookup because he definitely doesn’t have time for anything serious, so when he comes across a couple looking for a partner to round out their threesome fantasy he’s intrigued.
It isn’t long before he actually strikes a friendship with the man on the other side of this partnership, but he also finds someone who is blossoming into his sexuality and that heightens Luke’s desire more than anything else.
Neither Luke nor Keaton know whom the other is on the other side of this app and while their relationship is growing it is happening just feet apart from one another. When the big day is finally supposed to happen the dynamic begins to change, for so many reasons, but that is when the story really begins to take off.
Top Secret has so many layers and is so well written. It’s a great awakening story, layered with so many emotions. A great read overall.
I didn’t know I was a fan of MM romance…until I read this book. Bowen and Kennedy have turned this straight reader for good.
At first, I wasn’t sure about the fraternity set up, but I quickly got over that with all the chemistry zinging around between the two main characters.
I loved how Keaton goes on this journey to discover his sexuality, and then embraces it with his whole heart.
Luke is a complex character with a great back story.
The two of them together are pure magic.
The bedroom scenes are so hot you will need a fan. Do not read this in public, you will regret it!
Top Secret sets a quick pace right from the start, switching POVs from Keaton to Luke. Frat brothers and roommate stories are a trope that is quickly becoming a favorite for this reader. I wouldn’t say the book is a slow burn, those steamy texts definitely weren’t even PG-13, and yet the relationship part of Keaton and Luke’s story slowly forms. It made this story immensely satisfying for this reader.
I really had a tough time putting this book down and highly recommend it for steamy romance fans and those that are curious to try reading something that might be out of their wheelhouse. Top Secret truly was a great book from a talented power duo that has me rushing to get to their other books. HIM has officially moved up to priority TBR!
These two authors individually are absolutely amazing and when they write together it’s freaking dynamite!!
I absolutely love M/M romance. I read it as much as I can and Top Secret did not disappoint. This was my final read of 2019 and believe me my year ended with a bang!!
Luke and Keaton are frat enemies from different sides of the track. Keaton has lived a posh life while Luke has struggled and fought for everything he has. Keaton’s gf Annika requests a threesome for her birthday so Keaton is determined to find the right guy for her but what he failed to see is that he might be more into this than she is and soon is chatting up with SinnerThree on Kink. Conversations that they have stay secret and he doesn’t share them with Annika. When the big night arrives she backs out and Keaton soon discovers the guy at the door is none other than Luke Bailey which doesn’t sit well with him but can he ignore the fact that maybe he’s more open to a guy hook up than he ever thought and maybe he’s going to discover that there’s more to Luke than he let’s on.
This is M/M enemoes to lovers at it’s best. Loved ending my year with these two.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! This book has it all: Luke and Keaton couldn’t be more different and yet somehow, they’re brought together through the unlikeliest of ways and make a connection. Both characters come with tons of baggage and despite being as different as two people can be, their relationship evolves into something neither one could have foreseen. Their early anonymous messaging opens the door to this unexpected relationship with humor and outrageous flirting. The surrounding cast of characters (both likeable and not) add depth and move the story along. In addition to excellent writing, the authors deliver laughs, angst, and plenty of heat. I love the journey these two characters take and I thought the the author brought them to their HEA masterfully. Highly recommend.
Loved loved loved! So witty and hot
