Pediatrician Mabel Aphrodite Brown adores kids. So when a childhood friend asks Ditie to babysit her kids for a few days, she jumps at the chance. She never imagined she’d be solving a murder too . . . Despite growing up together, Ditie hasn’t seen Ellie Winston in two years, and she didn’t even know Ellie was living in Atlanta. But when Ellie asks her to take care of Lucie and Jason for the … Lucie and Jason for the weekend, she thinks nothing of it. They’ll bake cookies together, play with her dog—it’ll be fun! Until the police call with terrible news . . .
Ellie may not have been the best friend, but who would want her dead? Could it have something to do with the vague get-rich-quick scheme she mentioned to Ditie? Or the men in a black truck following her and breaking into her home? Not sure who to trust other than her best friend, Lurleen, Ditie’s buried maternal instincts kick in to protect the kids and find their mother’s killer—before they’re orphaned again . . .

Enjoyed this book!
Very entertaining – characters are great
Loved this 1st in a series. Can’t wait to read next one.
I really loved the characters, the drama of the murder, the investigation, and the action packed dealings with protecting the children. The detective’s love for the doctor with his pistol packing mom in need of protecting the family and lastely, the baking they did, not to mention the ending was great!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I will definitely look for more Osborne mysteries.
I couldn’t wait to see what happens next.
Really enjoyed this book. Well thought out story, enjoyed getting to know the very believable characters . In fact was sorry when I finished this book and would highly recommend if you want a very good read.
I love cozy mysteries and this one did not disappoint me. The main character, a pediatrician, was delightful and all the other people were fun and of course, there is a mystery to solve.
The characters were just super. Every single one.
I was a bit skeptical with the kind of cute title, but I really enjoyed the people in this book, and how the plot developed. I liked how the plot developed, and there was a nice level of action and excitement. Hope to read more of these in the future.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this tale featuring Ditie (short for Aphrodite) and her friend, Matt. At long last, Ditie finds someone who doesn’t think her too plain or plump to be beautiful. They solve a murder mystery together and become affectionate friends, setting this pair up for future escapades.
Loved it!
Loved the recipes at the end. My mouth was watering when the characters were eating the goodies.
Fun new cosy series. Very likable characters. Not afraid to deal with tough issues.
Good read
Characters were good. It was a quick read.
It was a good plot and good mystery right to the very end…the best part was no sex and no foul language, both of which I don’t care to read.
Enjoyable reading, with lots of twists and turns. Perhaps a bit too many twists, but that’s a personal preference. I especially liked the main character. The book was hard to put down!
Dr. Brown, Ditie, says yes when her friend Ellie asks her to watch the kids (Lucie and Jason) for a couple of days. Unfortunately Ellie is murdered, the kids are in danger, and Ditie is caught up in a homicide investigation. Detective Mason provides a romantic interest for Ditie, and PI Dan provides a romantic interest for Ditie’s friend Lurleen. All in all this is a charming book with lots of suspects and plot twists. The recipes at the end are a nice bonus.
