Pediatrician Mabel Aphrodite Brown adores kids. So when a childhood friend asks Ditie to babysit her kids for a few days, she jumps at the chance. She never imagined she’d be solving a murder too . . . Despite growing up together, Ditie hasn’t seen Ellie Winston in two years, and she didn’t even know Ellie was living in Atlanta. But when Ellie asks her to take care of Lucie and Jason for the … Lucie and Jason for the weekend, she thinks nothing of it. They’ll bake cookies together, play with her dog—it’ll be fun! Until the police call with terrible news . . .
Ellie may not have been the best friend, but who would want her dead? Could it have something to do with the vague get-rich-quick scheme she mentioned to Ditie? Or the men in a black truck following her and breaking into her home? Not sure who to trust other than her best friend, Lurleen, Ditie’s buried maternal instincts kick in to protect the kids and find their mother’s killer—before they’re orphaned again . . .

A well thought out mystery with a satisfying ending. There are plenty of misdirections that kept you turning the page, and romance to keep it from getting too dark. The author handled the children characters well, making you want hold your breath to be sure they would be safe. The only complaint is the story seems to be a bit long for a cozy mystery. Still I enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good plot twisting mystery.
I love Ditie and all the wonderful people in her life. Lots of suspects, kept you guessing! The Southern recipes are wonderful!
I liked this book a lot. I loved the characters, especially Aunt Di, the children, Lulalee, and Mason. Actually loved all the characters. And the story was very good. Just a good light easy read.
Keeps you guessing about what’s going to happen next.
I love a good cozy mystery! This book is well-written, with plots that keep the reader engaged!
Enjoyable read. Went really fast. Enough twists and turns to be engaging and fun characters.
I liked this book, quite a lot. The plot was easily followed. The main characters were very believable and became very endearing quickly. I can definitely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a loving cozy mystery.
Good book. The ending wasn’t predictable. There were several people that could have been guilty.
Fun book!
Really enjoyed this book, had you guessing who did it. Would like to read more by this author
This book was about a doctor who finds herself caring for 2 children after her friend gets killed. The friend tried to blackmail her boss and so did her ex husband. She finds herself getting involved when the children are in danger.
Interesting and unique low-stress who-done-it for late night reading.
This was good. Not earth-shattering, but worth the time.
I really enjoyed the characters created for this series of murder mysteries. Ditziest is the kind of person we need to see more in real life: smart, caring, and willing to put herself on the line to help others.
One of the better who done it books I have read recently. So good I purchased the 2nd book in the series.
Not deep plot, but wholesome and an easy read when life is chaotic.
I enjoyed the quirky characters in this book. Enjoyed the story and read it in just a few short settings.
Exclent eazy to read.it keeps you involed
Loved the characters in this story. Not an easy who-dun-it to solve.
When you read this book, you may need to keep a list of the characters and reasons to suspect them! The title tells you why! But, all in all, this was a good, entertaining, book. It was quite different from most mysteries in that the “bad” guy wasn’t known until almost the very end. And yet, it was not surprise as that person was on my list! Enjoyable read!
