Too Good at Goodbyes, an all new standalone from RC Boldt takes us inside the life of Simone King, the “Ice Princess of Pop” and her new bodyguard, Kane Windham, who may be the only person to have the power to melt the ice around her heart.First Top 40 hit at age seventeen? My first tabloid breakup scandal quickly followed. Earned my first Grammy? Discovered Mommy Dearest was embezzling my money.
Earned my first Grammy? Discovered Mommy Dearest was embezzling my money.
Landed a leading role in a movie? My fiancé called off our engagement the next day.
I might have a multi-million-dollar recording contract, a sold-out world tour, and more money in the bank than I ever imagined, but every time I hit a milestone in my career, my personal life suffers.
Then in steps my new bodyguard, rugged and with a past I connect with. The closer we get, the more powerful my feelings grow, complicating our professional relationship.
I thought Kane would be different. I hoped he’d be the one man to stand by my side, undaunted by the fame and attention that trails me.
The press calls me the “Ice Princess of Pop” because of my unyielding façade throughout heartbreak and betrayal. Perhaps it’s time to show them the real me.
With every syllable, I pour out my emotions and allow them to puddle, forming lyrics from my soul’s breath. And with each word, my broken heart cries out for Kane, begging him to help me break this pattern.
To help me stop being so damn good at goodbyes.more
4.5 stars. This story was an amazing portrayal of what can happen in the music business. There were times my eyes leaked tears and other times I laughed out loud. The lyrics were my favorite part of the book. I LOVE when a book incorporates original lyrics into the story. So often we get books about rock stars, but where are the lyrics, where are the songs? This book delivers.
Simone is a pop star that the tabloids have dubbed “the Ice Princess”, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Zane is hired to step in when her body guard takes a leave but he has only the press for his knowledge about Simone. He sees that what the tabloids say isn’t always the truth. He sees the real her, the truth of how good her heart really is. While they both recover from broken hearts, they bond, but they don’t know that the heartbreak they experienced before is nothing compared to what will come. True heartbreak can only be felt when the person you truly love breaks you.
This is a story about how the media twists public figures and how we shouldn’t really believe what we read. This is also a story about healing once you find the one person you are supposed to be with.
Too Good At Goodbyes is a story with a lot of charm. I really like the writing style. Simone and Kane are very likable individuals. It was easy to relate to them. I was quickly drawn in and captivated by their tale. I didn’t want to put it down. If you like Rockstar romances or even if they’re not your normal read I’d recommend this one. You may be pleasantly surprise by it.
R.C. Boldt is a go to author for me and I was so excited to see she had a new one coming out! I loved Simone! She was such a great character, and all my feelings were right there with her! I loved seeing how Kane was able to look past what the world thought about Simone and see that she had a heart of gold. The story just kept me pulled in from the start and it was impossible to put down!
RC Boldt has become a new favorite author of mine. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read and really liked several of her books in the past, but the last two books she’s written have kind of cemented her spot as a top fave for me. Choose Me kind of blew me away, and now I can say that Too Good at Goodbyes has pretty much done the same.
Before I say this next thing, let me preface it by reminding everyone that this is simply MY opinion.
OK…here goes. There are a few tropes that I feel are overdone in romance at this time and lack the ability to really keep me interested in continuing to turn the pages. Popstar/bodyguard romances are in that category for me. But Choose Me was so good that I decided to give Too Good at Goodbyes a chance. And I am so, so glad I did! The story was a slow burn between Kane and Simone because they’ve both been burned badly by previous relationships. But what stood out in this book is how the author used techniques such as press releases, texts, gossip mag stories, and interviews to tell the story in such a unique way that I didn’t feel like I was reading the same type of story over again. It was truly refreshing and absolutely kept me turning the pages and staying up way too late because I just had to know how this story ended for these two. I loved watching Simone and Kane grow and mature as separate people. There was so much for each character to overcome before it could truly be their HEA
NICUnurse’s Rating: There is a lot of angst in this book, so if that’s not your jam, you may not like Too Good at Goodbyes. But if you are looking for a slightly different way of telling a not so new plot that makes this trope seem very new, I say give it a try. Maybe other authors have done this and I just haven’t read those books, but again, I felt that the way the author changed up telling the story using these techniques was pretty genius!
I give Too Good at Goodbyes 5 out of 5 stars!
Another amazing read by R.C. Boldt. I love the chemistry between Kane and Simone. You can just feel the pull from the first meeting. Kane is amazing and you might recognize him and a few others from Boldt’s previous works. I love how protective Kane is of Simone. Simone is one tough cookie. I love her softer side that no one sees as well as the public I don’t care what you say side. She is true to herself and doesn’t let the media get in her head. I love the playful side that comes out of Kane and Simone. They will make you giggle and they will make you fan yourself. Too Good at Goodbyes is a book you will not be able to put down. I loved every moment of watching Kane and Simone come together. Yes there may be both happy and sad tears but it is so worth it.
I am not even sure where to begin but to say I absolutely loved, loved, loved Too Good at Goodbyes by R.C. Boldt. I want to make sure I do the story justice, but I also want to say just go read it. The feels, the steaminess, the emotions, everything about this story is why I read. I simply devoured it. I wanted to see how it would all end and yet never wanted it to end.
Simone King is on top of the world as one of the biggest pop stars, but not everything is as it seems. Love seems to elude her and the only men she attracts hurt her before moving on. And yet she was so strong, determined and had a huge heart. Kane Windham’s life was spiraling. The woman he loved hurt him in the worst way possible. Which is how he finds himself playing bodyguard to the “Ice Princess of Pop” and yet, she is nothing like she is perceived by the world. Kane was strong, protective and so very caring.
The life of a pop star is not an easy one and it takes Simone and Kane on a whirlwind journey. I loved seeing them fall. Both were lost and broken and yet together they were perfect. Too Good at Goodbyes was emotional, heartbreaking and heartfelt. I loved every minute of reading it and could not recommend it enough. This is a must read!
Loved it! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
There were times when I wanted to put this book down because it wasn’t doing much for me, but I am so glad that I decided to finish it.
Kane and Simone meet when her head of security takes a three month leave to go on his honeymoon and Kane steps in as a favor to him. The chemistry that these two have is off the charts!
Like I said before, the first 50% could have gone a lot faster and I feel that some of it could have been left out. The final 50% though I could not put down!
R.C Boldt has magic to her words. She brings more magic with this story of Kane and Simone.
Simone is the “Ice Princess of Pop” but she is so much more. She is an admirable character with an inner strength and fortitude. I loved her fragile heart and what she does for her inner circle of people she loves.
Kane is nursing heartbreak. He needs to get away from his current world and gets the opportunity to protect Simone.
This is a lovely written story about two scarred hearts who find solace in each other. This is also the story of trust and preconceived notions that tend to lead to the wrong conclusions.
The chemistry between Kane and Simone is like a house on fire. I loved the bit of the slow burn and the friendship that started it all. It was lovely to see Kane realize all the different layers of Simone. It was also lovely to see Simone work at trusting Kane into her inner circle.
This wouldn’t be an R.C. Boldt story without a bit of angst and some sadness. This story gave me all the feels! It will give you all the feels too.
The secondary characters are phenomenal and bring even more dimension and charm to the story.
Another stellar story by Ms. Boldt! Get your hands on this!
I absolutely adored Kane and Simone. I felt their connection right from the start, when Kane took up for her with a reporter. You could tell he wanted to protect her from anything that could harm her in any way. I absolutely loved Simone. I fell hard for her. She had such a giving heart, and the way she was treated broke my heart. To see Kane and Simone get together put it back together. They both had heartbreaks in their past and deserved to be loved. They deserved their HEA and RC Boldt walks away with another 5 Star book in my eyes!
Wow!!! Just wow!!! I am in love! With this book…with these characters…with this writing…with this author! One of my top reads!!!! Simone and Kane’s story had my heart feeling ALL the feels. I was no where ready for this story to end. I needed to follow them into the sunset so I could continue with their story! That’s how good this was! The storyline pulled me in right from the beginning and OMG! the characters! Kane was so swoony! And Simone. I think a lot of people can relate to her. I know I did! I love her! You NEED this book!!!!
Fact or Fiction: Sweet Read
Too Good at Goodbyes by RC Boldt was such a pleasant surprise. With a twist on the rock star romance and written in an interesting format, it’s sweet with a bit of steam.
Simone King, the Ice Princess of Pop, and Kane Windham, ex-military and her current temporary bodyguard, have similar heartaches and walls. Gentle and with a protective demeanor, Kane was all alpha. Simone my have even called icy but she certainly was not. Both Kane and Simone have hearts of gold but they fight hard to not let that armor fall. They haven’t had it easy with love and watching it slowly build between them was a treat but watching it get destroyed was distressing.
I’ve always liked Ms. Boldt’s writing and this time she gives us a story, although sometimes a little difficult, it has a good feel to it. It’s a read that should be added to your list.
Simone is known as the “Ice Princess of Pop”, and Kane is her new bodyguard. Both of these characters have been broken by their pasts, but can they heal each other? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed!! This is a beautifully written masterpiece by one of my favorite authors’, and is an emotional roller coaster throughout, as well as having witty banter and humor, which all leads to an epic story which had me captivated throughout this addictive page turner. I highly recommend for all readers.
Too Good at Goodbyes is a standalone by this author. RC has struck again with a story that captivates your attention and has you seeing that the grass is not always greener on the other side. She flips the rock star romance to a female lead instead of the male lead and I believe it makes the story so much better. Simone King is the ‘Ice princess of Pop’ and on top of the world, but we should all know that what we see is not always what is behind the scenes when it comes to Hollywood. Bad sells, but I have to say the Good shall learn to sell in this day and age. Kane, ex-military and works as security is struggling in life/love, his buddies see this and help him. The perfect opportunity to step away comes and he lands the job of guarding the ‘Ice princess’. How bad can it be? Like the tabloids say or worse? Well I’m sure not going to tell you, so read the story and find out! Haha Both of these characters have hearts of gold, but have bad luck in the love department. I love how protective the ones who truly care for Simone are! This story is full of drama cause let’s face it she’s famous, but it shows you just how well stars hide what is real and is a shame cause I think real is better. The ones who see you for you are and not what is portrayed are the true ones that won’t say Goodbye! You will feel the tension, heartache, love, laughter at times and see that with music you too shall find love when the time is right. RC scored a hit with this rock star romance! But then again, did we expect anything differently. Each story gets better and better and I love her writing style.
To say I’m a massive fan of this author is a slight understatement. I’ve loved every single one of her characters but Kane has always been one of my favourites. The Kane I met in this book was not the Kane I’d come to love in other books (you don’t need to read any other books prior to this one. He only makes fleeting appearances). This new Kane is the opposite of what I was expecting. He’s hurting and that’s changed him as a person. At their wits ends his superiors (who happen to also be his friends) place him on work leave for a few months to get himself sorted. Which is how he ends up doing security for singing sensation and Ice Princess of Pop Sophie King. Kane isn’t the only person hurting though. Sophie has had her own share of heartache, she just doesn’t let anyone see the damage that has been done to her. They’re both broken in their own way but could they be what the other needs to move on?
I don’t think I’ve ever wanted two characters to get their hea more than I did these two. They won me over so quick and the more I got to know them the more I loved them. Kane is everything I didn’t know I wanted him to be. And Sophie was even better. This woman is so strong but still so good and kind, it’s hard not to love her. She’s awesome. Oh and Matthias deserves a mention. He is an absolutely brilliant character who I loved from the start.
I adore this authors books. The characters she creates somehow end up feeling like real friends. Reading a book by RC Boldt is like been hugged by your favourite people. There’s something about her words that draw me into this fictional world and make me not want to leave (helps that the men are all hot not gonna lie).
It is official – I absolutely love R.C. Boldt. This book took my by surprise and I loved every single thing about it.
I loved that they didn’t fall into each other’s arms right away. I loved how their relationship progressed and I even loved the way things had fallen apart. But what stole my heart were the texts. They showed how much they were missing each other and aching to be together. I loved the side characters as they brought that something extra to the story.
Like said I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to pick up my next book by this author.

Talk about emotions from beginning to end in this slow burn love story. Simone was the famous pop singer with a reputation of being cold but she was sooooooo far from it. She was completely opposite of what everyone presumed she was. Kane was filling in for her regular head of security when he met and got to know better the beautiful singer. They both weren’t looking for love because of their past and the betrayals but slowly they started gravitating towards each other. It was beautiful because it was secretive and oh so steamy. There wasn’t that many drama but they were very sad moments and lots of swoon worthy moments with Kane’s alpha protectiveness. Simone had a beautiful heart. The text messages between her and Kane will just draw you in. Beautiful story with amazing secondary characters.
Sometimes a broken heart can completely change you, make you someone different. It pulls the color from your world. Takes the light from your eyes. Nobody knows this better than Simone and Kane. Two broken people, closed off and going through the motions, not fully living. When these two are thrust together, they both come to realize that maybe they aren’t the only one hiding their true self. Will they be able to open up and let someone else in or will their walls be impossible to penetrate?
One of my favorite aspects of Boldt’s writing are her characters. She creates bold and complex characters who grow and evolve throughout the story. I can’t help but fall in love with each and every one of them. Simone and Kane were no exception. I couldn’t get enough of them.
Boldt delivers a delicious slow burn. The chemistry between Simone and Kane was palpable. I could feel their connection and the anticipation of a relationship had me on the edge of my seat. As things started to heat up, I was tearing through the pages. Not only does she give us romance and passion, but also a deep connection between two people and how respect and friendship can bring back color and light and love.
I absolutely loved this story and I never wanted it to end. The humor, the heartache, the excitement, the frustration, the passion, I loved all of it!

Too Good at Goodbyes by RC Boldt is the first book I’ve read by this author and will certainly not be the last! This book was very well written taking the reader into the pages of Simone and Kane’s journey of recovering from heartbreak of past relationships and to finding love again.
This book is follows Simone King, the Ice Princess of Pop and her temporary bodyguard Kane Windham. Living in the limelight isn’t easy and hasn’t painted Simone as the warmest of people but deep down behind the gossip and rumors is someone who has learned to ignore the media and the fabricated stories they tell.
Kane is recovering from a bad breakup. When he’s given the position of Head of Personal Security for Simone King his initial thoughts of the Ice Princess of Pop aren’t high as he’s seen what the media has said about her but what he’s not expecting is to find someone else completely. Someone who isn’t like what the media has made her seem.
The writing in this story is so good, I cannot say that enough. RC Boldt has created a special story and has really created a book that’s more than just pop princesses and their bodyguards. This story has lots of heart and emotion which bring the characters to life. This book is a slow burn!!! Don’t go in expecting Rockstar sex right off the bat. It’s a necessary slow burn that leads to the development of Simone and Kane’s relationship.

I went in and I wasn’t expecting this wonderful story, what a ride!
I’m a huge fan of RC Boldt’s writing and once again, she delivered another impressive and amazing book. Too Good At Goodbyes is a unique take on a celebrity and bodyguard romance. I loved everything about this book and truly adored Kane and Simone. They were engaging and genuine characters who wholeheartedly stole my heart. I could feel the undeniable chemistry between Kane and Simone and from the very beginning, I knew something life altering was on the horizon. Unfortunately, Simone has being taken advantage of, lied to and emotionally abused in past relationships which led to her close her heart and develop major trust issues. Kane also suffered a deep heartbreak and as a result, he guarded his heart as well.
I loved the friendship that Kane and Simone developed coupled with their hilarious banter which allowed their lighter sides to shine. The way they danced around each other was intriguing and once they got going, their hunger and passion for each other was oh so arousing and intoxicating. Too Good At Goodbyes is a swoon worthy, emotional romance (I cried a couple of times) with touching moments that you just can’t help but fall in love with. It’s beautifully written, the ending was perfection and I couldn’t have been more satisfied.
