Too Good at Goodbyes, an all new standalone from RC Boldt takes us inside the life of Simone King, the “Ice Princess of Pop” and her new bodyguard, Kane Windham, who may be the only person to have the power to melt the ice around her heart.First Top 40 hit at age seventeen? My first tabloid breakup scandal quickly followed. Earned my first Grammy? Discovered Mommy Dearest was embezzling my money.
Earned my first Grammy? Discovered Mommy Dearest was embezzling my money.
Landed a leading role in a movie? My fiancé called off our engagement the next day.
I might have a multi-million-dollar recording contract, a sold-out world tour, and more money in the bank than I ever imagined, but every time I hit a milestone in my career, my personal life suffers.
Then in steps my new bodyguard, rugged and with a past I connect with. The closer we get, the more powerful my feelings grow, complicating our professional relationship.
I thought Kane would be different. I hoped he’d be the one man to stand by my side, undaunted by the fame and attention that trails me.
The press calls me the “Ice Princess of Pop” because of my unyielding façade throughout heartbreak and betrayal. Perhaps it’s time to show them the real me.
With every syllable, I pour out my emotions and allow them to puddle, forming lyrics from my soul’s breath. And with each word, my broken heart cries out for Kane, begging him to help me break this pattern.
To help me stop being so damn good at goodbyes.more
I’ve only ever read rom-coms by RC Boldt so I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of angst in this book!!
The Ice Princess of Pop has gained a new fan!! I loved everything about this story. From the behind the scenes looks at the music industry to the heat between Simone and Kane, I couldn’t put this down. I lost hours of sleep so I could finish in one sitting and every minute was worth it.
I laughed, cried, and everything in between. I have added all of Kane’s friends books to my TBR so I can get to know more about the fantastic people Kane and Simone have in their lives. RC Boldt is becoming a definite favorite of mine.
**Please note, I was given an ARC for each of these books for an honest review of them. These reviews are my own thoughts and feelings and I have had no financial compensation to provide these reviews to you**
This book gave me some Taylor Swift vibes at the start. Simone is known as the Ice Princess of Pop because she doesn’t show the world her warm and fuzzy side. She’s been used and abused by those who claim to care for her. Her previous boyfriends couldn’t handle her fame, her mother has stolen from her, the tabloids will print whatever they wish to about her. I don’t blame her for not wanting to show the world her real self. But then Kane comes into her world and sees past the front she puts up.
Kane himself is coming off a bad breakup in which he was used as well. (side note: why are people like this? Like for real, why be this much of a jerk?) Kane looks past the ice facade that Simone has and really connects with her. Then he effs it up big time (as men are want to do, really lol) They do get their HEA, but only after egos are put aside and walls are melted. The epilogue gave me some Ryan Reynolds/Blake Lively vibes and since I adore them this made me chuckle throughout the whole epilogue!
The side characters of this book were awesome as well. I adore Matthias and wish he was my BFF, and Fos and Presley, while more minor than Matthias, were totally kick butt in getting Kane’s head out of his tushy. Hopefully we will see Matthias’ book soon!
Simone King and Kane Windham are both familiar with heartache. While what they have experienced is different for each of them, they still have lived through it. When Kane is offered this temporary job as head of security for the Ice Princess of Pop, he really wasn’t sure what to believe, the press or his friend. Simone doesn’t trust and the life of a pop star is far from easy and struggles with trying to understanding who Kane is. Will Kane be different then the others and will Simone be who his friend said she is?
Right from the start of the book, the author pulls you in and keeps you wondering until the very end. I love how the author starts the book in the present and then most of the book goes back to bring you up to how we got to where the story started. Things you expect to happen is not always the case so these surprises add to the enjoyment of the story. I wasn’t thinking I was going to like Simone, but she is not what the press makes her out to be. The emotions that the characters go through you can really feel and experience them right along with the characters. You will laugh, cry, be frustrated, sad, happy, to whatever other emotions they have going on. This book was very difficult to have to put down and I was very sad to see the story come to an end.
I loved reading every minute if this book. Simone and Kane’s book is slow burn that will make everything obstacle worth it. I love R.C. Boldt. She is one of favorite authors. If you are a lover of contemporary romance, you will love this book.
I found this a sweet romance with some mid level angst enjoyable characters and some life lessons.
Simone King is known as the Ice Princess of Pop which she doesn’t deserve in my opinion. Kane Windham is the ex-military bodyguard hired to keep her safe. This story could have been over the top but it was surprisingly relate able. Both main characters made questionable decisions romantically which has made them both wary. The only difference is Kane can lick his wounds in private but for Simone the tabloids feast on every part of her pain.
I enjoyed watching their journey from antagonists to friends and then lovers. The slow build and their obvious attraction
Amazing!! My first book by R.C., and I loved it! I don’t know how many times I had tears in my eyes. The words to the songs she had Simone sing were so full of heartache. It just pulled me right in. Both Simone and Kane had past relationships that didn’t end well. So when these two were drawn to each other, the trust was scarce. Simone is a pop star and Kane is assigned to be her head of security. Kane was able to see the woman underneath all her fame. Most people believe she is an ice princess. When in actuality she was the complete opposite. Kane was stoic with no emotion on the outside. But on the inside he was an emotional mess; until Simone. I just loved how these two bonded and their relationship grew. Of course there is always hiccups along the way! If you’re looking for a great read, then this is for you!!!
This is not your typical rock star romance and I’ve got to say, it’s about time!! RC Boldt destroyed me in the best way possible!! Too Good at Goodbyes had me weak in the knees and flipping the pages at the end for more! Simone and Kane’s story…GAH!! The friendship they built, the slow burn romance, I couldn’t get enough. I laughed, I cried and I cheered for Simone. I will say this…these two as a couple? Hands down, the BEST I’ve ever read. Congrats RC Boldt, this couple has stolen my heart!
RC Boldt seriously killed this story! The way she developed Simone has to be one of my favorite famous main characters. Her heart is huge and everything she does is to help other. The media portrayed her horribly and she showed nothing but true class when people did nothing but try and beat her down. Kane is just as beautiful… I know, he’s the man, but his soul. It’s beautiful. His heart and caring nature is something so many could learn from. He had a vicious ex that set out to break his spirit, not just his heart.
RC Boldt’s talent is so incredible. She shows us how cruel people can be to others. We also see the resilience in people. As well as the strength from people who work so hard to build others up. I just love the lesson behind Mrs. Boldt’s words. RC Boldt wrote a crazy, intensely emotional story. It will make you feel and ache for both Simone and Kane. I really appreciate that Boldt was still able to add her signature humor and fun to the story.
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Five stars for Simone and Kane !!!
This is the first book that I’ve read by R.C. Boldt and I loved it!
“Too Good at Goodbyes” is a contemporary romance book about a pop star Simone and her bodyguard Kane.
Simone and Kane’s relationship is a slow burn with a lot of obstacles on the way to their happily ever after.
If you’re looking for a contemporary romance which is set in the celebrity world with ups and downs, then this is the book you need to read it!
What a refreshing take on a rock star romance!
Too Good at Goodbyes was a heartachingly beautiful book! The story showcases the classic “Hollywood star/bodyguard romance” and gives it an incredibly unique overlay of emotionally damaged characters and heartbreaking plot twists. The story dives deep into the heart of what it truly means to KNOW someone, to break through the walls someone has built around them and discover who they really are deep inside.
Simone and Kane are quite similar characters. Both have been hurt by the people they loved, causing them to shield themselves as well as their hearts from enduring love’s painful sting again. But in doing so, they’ve each adopted iced facades, changing their outlook on life and connection to true happiness. I feel that’s why they have such a strong pull towards one another. Yes, there’s that immediate attraction and chemistry between them, along with their undeniably intense passion. But it’s the emotional pain and insecurities they feel and share with each other that really binds them together.
Too Good at Goodbyes delivers on so many levels. Heartache, drama, humor, and desire blend together to make this slow burn romance an instant must-read. I love stories with emotionally scarred characters. The Good Samaritan is one of my absolute favorites books, so to read another fantastically penned story by the author with perfectly flawed characters was an absolute treat! I truly loved it!
Fact or fiction: You won’t be able to put down this down.
Fact.
Broken hearts and hurt feelings. You have to work through them, but what happens when you meet someone special while doing so? Too Good at Goodbyes tells the emotional tale of Simone and Kane, who both are not unfamiliar with heartbreak. I just adore their story.
Simone seems to be living the life; she’s a celebrated popstar with large numbers of fans and more than enough money to spend. But her fame and money aren’t always positive; it brings out the worst in people and the gossip magazines love to make up stories. Her love life is a disaster, and that hurts a lot. All Simone wants is a partner in life, for the good and the bad times. Kane – a former Green Beret / nowadays security guy – is also no stranger to heartbreak; it makes him question everything. Simone and Kane are both hurting, and both are hesitant to open up their heart again.
Poor, poor Simone. I feel so sorry for her. She might be rich and famous, but all she wants is somebody to love her. The real her, not the popstar. I think she’s a brave woman, to let Kane in her heart, even though she’s not sure about his feelings. Kane is still coming to terms with his breakup with his ex-girlfriend. He didn’t see it coming and falling for the gorgeous Simone is not part of the plan as well. Simone and Kane are an amazing couple, but the road to their Happily Ever After isn’t the easiest one.
Too Good at Goodbyes is yet another great story by RC Boldt. I love Simone and Kane; they are both good people who deserve all the best in life. Their story is sweet, sexy, angst-y and everything in between, I just love everything about it. Besides our lovely couple, there are a bunch of great side-characters (some you might know from other books by this author). And if you’re a fan of a great ‘epilogue’, Too Good at Goodbyes has the best; just one big swoon!
I love Kane and Simone; I give their beautiful story 5 stars.
Simone – the “Ice Princess of Pop – should be on top of the world, more money than you could ever spend, mega super stardom and every song written goes to the top of the charts. But with the good comes the bad – paparazzi that never leave you alone, derogatory names and a huge sense of isolation. Everything in her career has been one step forward and two steps back, but when Kane becomes her fill in bodyguard while on tour, does she finally find someone she can depend on. But when the relationship hits the skids will it be one more thing in her career that knocks her down or will her lyrics bring the two back together again? With characters you cannot help but fall in love with and a storyline that locks you in from the opening pages this was an incredible read.
4 Ice Pop Princess Stars
RC Boldt is a fairly new to me author and I am quickly becoming a big fan. Too Good at Goodbyes is the story of Simone and Kane. This is not your typical rockstar romance as we typically see the hero as the rockstar but this time, the heroine is a popstar and I love the light that RC Boldt sheds into the life and fame of a female pop star.
Simone has been known as the Ice Princess of Pop. But let me tell you that this is the furthest from the truth. You will fall in love with Simone. She was so relatable and I genuinely felt so much for her. She has had some tough goings in life. She doesnt have any family and really only has her best friend Matthias in her corner. Matthias added so much light and humor to the story! He definitely needs his own book!
Kane is given the opportunity to become a security guard for the pop princess and he intially has some preconcieved notions on her because of the way she is portrayed in the media and he is pleasantly surprised when he gets the complete opposite of what he is expecting. It honestly took me a little bit to warm up to Kane at first as he has had some experiences that harden is heart to women and love but as he reveals his heart I was a huge fan!
I love their chemistry and connection right from the start. It starts as friendship and quickly turns into more and the steam between these two will have your kindle burning up!
I was pleasantly surprised by the angst and emotion I felt throughout this book. The things that Kane did to show his love to Simone after a misunderstanding had my heart swooning and I could not get enough.
ARC received from Give Me Books and RC Boldt in exchange of an honest review.
I have been hungry for Kane Windham’s story for what seems like forever. This devastatingly charming hero with that laid back southern swagger was an immediate scene stealer in previous books and super alpha heartthrob status was achieved in Too Good at Goodbyes.
Although, honestly, I felt like I got a little bit of a different Kane here. In place of the devastating charm, there was more angsty alpha. Part of that has to do with the nature of the storyline here and what it lacked in the sort of devilish humor, it made up for in heat. The sizzling chemistry that sparked between Kane and Simone was apparent immediately and it only burned hotter from there. It was dang sexy. But, I did sort of miss that devilish humor that I’d associated with Kane – which didn’t resurface until the last quarter of the book. And man, I wish I’d had more of that. The playful side of Kane and Simone was absolutely to-die-for. It took a bit for me to really warm up to them, but by the time I turned the last page, I was utterly smitten.
Also, Simone? Is my favorite kind of heroine. Her heart of gold was on display from the get-go, and I was blown away by her strength and courageousness over the course of the book. She’s the true star here, the perfect balance of female warrior and loving caretaker. Her friendship with Matty was also incredibly satisfying. I loved the dynamic between the two and how genuine their friendship was written. Talk about a scene-stealer – Matty’s over-the-top personality seemed to fill in for the playfulness that was missing from Kane and it was absolutely impossible not to love him.
In all, this really was a super satisfying love story. These two are perfect for each other, Kane gives good groveling, and I smiled so hard at the way their happily-ever-after played out. It was exactly what I was expecting, but I loved it all the same. Definitely worth the read!
A love story when two broken souls heal each other? Sign me up.
If you don’t read another book this year make sure it’s this one. It’s so amazing.
Kane and Simone both share in the heartbreak that is losing a partner to another. That rejection breaks you. The relationship formed between the two after Kane starts working as her head of security is one full of angst and emotion as they each struggle to learn and trust again.
I loved it and I loved them. I highly recommend and can’t wait to see what else Ms Boldt has in store for us in the future.
Simone King is America’s pop princess, her fans adore her, and the media loves to follow her every move, they are always there to snap shots of her and spread them across the internet. Which means she’s forced to live in a private little bubble, with security guards always one step in front of her, and behind her.
When her main security guard decides to go on a long awaited vacation, he finds her the perfect replacement, a military trained hunk, armed with the skills to keep her safe, and her knees permanently weak. The moment Kane Windham wanders into her world she knows she is in trouble… he is gorgeous, kind, and has forbidden written all over him!
Too Good at Goodbyes brings you into the lives of two souls that have given up on love, one finding it and then learning that it’s not being returned by their mate. The other finding it, only to learn that it was all for show. Simone knows that getting involved with Kane could bring unnecessary trouble to her life, he’s only in her world temporarily and he is nursing a broken heart from a woman he still loves, and that can only lead to heartbreak for her. But as much as she tries to resist, she soon learns it’s pointless, her heart wants what it wants, and it wants Kane. Watching these two circle around each other was downright torturous at times, between their resistance to give in, and the sparks brewing between them they stirred up some serious heat between the pages. I really enjoyed this one it was captivating, steamy and so good on the heart… a perfect read in my book! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased opinion.
Another hit from RC Boldt!!
Simone King also known as the “Ice Princess of Pop.” Living in the public eye and having multiple failed relationships, Simone has learned that there is no changing what the paparazzi believes to be true about her. But those closest to her know the truth; that she has the biggest heart of anyone they know. Simone has difficulty letting in anyone new for fear of being hurt again but sometimes that can make for a lonely existence, especially on the road all the time with her career.
Kane Windham has been trying to get his life back on track after the love of his life left him. Right after being told to take some time off from work, he gets a phone call to be a bodyguard for Simone. He has heard a lot of not so good things about her, but it’s only for a few months and then he’ll be back to his regular life. After spending some time around her, he starts to realize that not everything he has heard is true.
The more time they spend together, the closer they get. Have these two finally found a safe place to fall and open their hearts to the possibility of more? Or will this just be another goodbye?
I am a huge fan of rockstar romances but it’s not too often that the female is the rockstar. I really loved this story!! Kane and Simone are both fantastic characters and I loved seeing their relationship bloom. It was a slow burn, which is another favorite of mine. Some of the secondary characters, especially Matthias, were pretty amazing as well. I love it that I get all the feels with RC Boldt’s stories and haven’t been disappointed in a book of hers yet. RC Boldt has quickly become a favorite of mine!
RC Boldt drew me in to her books through the stories of her military men and women. Through the many I have met I have been anxiously awaiting the story of Kane. Always the comic relief and the southern “ladies man”, Kane needed someone to be uniquely his but never seemed to be able to grasp his fairly tale ending. He thought he had it with Lucia but she broke him. His friends were worried that they would not be able to put him back together like “Humpty Dumpty”. Along came his assignment to guard Simone King also known as the Ice Princess of Pop. What most did not know was that icy exterior of hers was just a front, built there over years of hurt, pain, disappointment and fear. Although it was just a job, Kane was feeling that he needed to climb those icy walls and find the real Simone. I have been crying tears of joy since reading this story. RC Boldt has touched my heart and fulfilled my longing for a story for Kane.

Compared to most other tropes (excluding horror/dark romances) rockstar romances don’t normally feature high on my list of ‘to-go’ reads. But, I love RC Boldt’s writing and so I choose to give this one a go and I’m so glad I did.
This was every bit as good as any other story she’s given us. Emotional, heart-warming, sweet and with enough steam to overheat my kindle.
Simone and Kane have a fantastic chemistry and even though they try to fight it, it’s way too strong a connection that pulls them together.
Simone is trying her best to appear as a strong, confident woman, to be the person she needs to be, but it’s hard. Kane can see what she needs, both inside and out. He sees through her bluster to the heart of gold she tries so hard to hide.
They make the best of couples and I was sorry to see this story come to an end. I loved it, and I’m sure you will too. One-Click today and get your rockstar fix today.
