Too Good at Goodbyes, an all new standalone from RC Boldt takes us inside the life of Simone King, the “Ice Princess of Pop” and her new bodyguard, Kane Windham, who may be the only person to have the power to melt the ice around her heart.First Top 40 hit at age seventeen? My first tabloid breakup scandal quickly followed. Earned my first Grammy? Discovered Mommy Dearest was embezzling my money.
Earned my first Grammy? Discovered Mommy Dearest was embezzling my money.
Landed a leading role in a movie? My fiancé called off our engagement the next day.
I might have a multi-million-dollar recording contract, a sold-out world tour, and more money in the bank than I ever imagined, but every time I hit a milestone in my career, my personal life suffers.
Then in steps my new bodyguard, rugged and with a past I connect with. The closer we get, the more powerful my feelings grow, complicating our professional relationship.
I thought Kane would be different. I hoped he’d be the one man to stand by my side, undaunted by the fame and attention that trails me.
The press calls me the “Ice Princess of Pop” because of my unyielding façade throughout heartbreak and betrayal. Perhaps it’s time to show them the real me.
With every syllable, I pour out my emotions and allow them to puddle, forming lyrics from my soul’s breath. And with each word, my broken heart cries out for Kane, begging him to help me break this pattern.
To help me stop being so damn good at goodbyes.more
And that my book friends is why you should just one-click anything RC Boldt writes. She has a way of telling a story that will have you so engrossed that you literally forget about everything going in around you. RC Boldt is a master storyteller. She grabs your attention from the first page and keeps that attention until the very last page.
I loved everything about Kane and Simones story. We get every thing we love in a romance. I would highly recommend this book to any romance lover.
This book…I’m still on the fence. I loved it but yet I wanted to throw stuff at the characters. Their ups and downs had me angry, sappy and then happy. It’s definitely an interesting read. I wanted more from them though. When the end came I was finally hooked and needed more. Definitely a good book. 🙂
This was my first read/listen by RC Boldt and I really enjoyed this book. Simone is a pop star also known as the ice queen in the media. Simone is a strong female character and I love her fierceness. Kane joins her bodyguard team who has been through a breakup. They have an immediate connection and I enjoyed seeing their friendship grow throughout the book and they had amazing chemistry. Ava Erickson and Jason Clarke did amazing with the narration. There was an added bonus of Desiree Ketchum and Vikas Adams voices celebrity gossip sites and interviewers that was a lot of fun. This was a great book and I would recommend it.
Kane Windham is in a rut and nursing a broken heart when he’s offered to temporarily cover as the head of security for renowned pop star Simone King. With nothing to lose, he’ll accept the job which will provide a much needed change of pace and scenery.
Simone King is well known through the tabloids for being cold and heartless. A woman who’s never been seen heartbroken despite the trail of broken relationships left in her wake, but when Kane starts looking closely, she’s not at all what people think.
Kane and Simone’s story is not my usual read, but it was worth every minute nonetheless. They struggle so much to find their way it’s hard to predict how it will all end and it makes for a wonderful read. Once again the author gives a good story, unpredictable and heart wrenching that is bound to warm you inside.
4 glowing stars
I loved this book! It feels very contemporary and modern. You will be rooting for the characters the whole way!
Fact or fiction?
I loved this book SO. EFFING. MUCH.
That is FACT.
This pop star/bodyguard romance was emotional, full of heart, and made me feel everything. It gave me so many smiles, plenty of tingles, and also a few tears.
I fell for the Simone & Kane immediately. It wasn’t hard to do. These well-developed characters are so lovable and broken and strong, yet vulnerable, and they ended up finding a place in my heart.
Kane is Simone’s bodyguard, filling in for her usual guy for three months. He was expecting the beautiful singer/actress to be what the tabloids made her out to be…a cold-hearted, spoiled little brat, used to getting everything she wants. But what he witnessed was something entirely different. The media is way off.
The so called Ice Princess has a huge heart of gold. She has a lot more depth than what people think. She’s generous and kind and super talented and humble… how could he not be attracted to all of that.
The chemistry between them was sizzling and their passion was intoxicating. With the turn of every page, I looked forward to watching them try to stay away from each other. Loved seeing their relationship grow.
This well-written story captured my heart, I loved every second of it.
Audio review:
Too Good At Goodbyes is a rockstar/romance with a bodyguard twist. Told in dual pov, compelling characters with complex personalities, advocative supporting character’s, and a addictive writing style. Angst & stormy romance rolled up into one divine listen. Loved the ending.
Narators Ava Erickson, Jason Clark, Desiree Ketchum, and Vikas Adam. Absolutely loved the performance. Character’s were given their own voice and easily distinctable.
Firstly, while listening to this audio on Authors Direct there were very long pauses between chapters and the audio would just stop for no reason. Knowing that these narrators are highly professional I blame the technical issues on the app/website. I’m not a fan of this app as you don’t know how much time you have left on the audios.
I received an ARC from Give Me Books and RC Boldt for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is another RC Boldt book where I had a highlight in almost every chapter! Which translates to the fact I really, REALLY liked this book! When I found out RC was going to have a few copies of this book on hand at Shameless, I knew I needed to be one of the first in line for her. I really wanted the new book and getting her signature on it made it all that much more special.
Simone King has been dubbed the “Ice Princess of Pop”. Having been in not so stellar relationships and an ex fiancé, she isn’t the most trusting of people. While on the outside she may not look like the sweetest, but secretly she honors Make a Wish children and spend as much time as allotted before her performances. Having her drummer Isaac with a little girl whose cancer has come back, it really hits home for Simone.
Kane Windham has been trying to get his life back after the love of his life left him. However, he got a phone call to be a bodyguard for Simone. After spending some time around her he starts to realize that not everything he has heard isn’t true. Simone really is a good person, but not everyone has her best interest at heart. Can Kane keep Simone safe? Or will he destroy her by breaking her heart?
Normally I don’t like rock star books, but I was intrigued because most rock star books is based on the rock star being male. There aren’t that many out there where the rock/pop star is female. I also really liked the fact this book was pop star/bodyguard love story.
When Simone sang a song for Zoe at the military base I boo ho cried like a little baby. I don’t think I have ever cried so early on in a book and I also haven’t read a good emotional book like this in a bit. I did have to put it down several times, merely to wipe my tears away and regroup.
Matthias Tobin aka Matty is Simone’s best guy friend. I think he really enjoys calling her a hussy and it might be his second most used word in his vocabulary! Kane did not play with Matty the first time they met. Then again who the heck knocks on your door at 5 o’clock in the morning! Matty is a freaking hoot and needs his own book. One of my favorite parts is when Matty sings in a country twang, “Mama’s, don’t let your babies grow up to be big-burly-security-guards-who-pin-you-to-the-walllllll” Matty was able to make me laugh with his own spin on Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. Made me relive part of my middle school social life of endless nights of karaoke!
I looked up every GIF mentioned in this book so I could get a true feel of what the characters felt and saw. I loved the Frodo Bagins “All right then, kept your secrets” and the Samuel L Jackson crazy eyes expression! I loved the text messages that was written into this book. I also liked the press releases, whether good or bad, I liked that they were written into the books as well.
I loved how the Texas Moses fell in love with the Ice Princess! I recommend this book as it’s officially my favorite for 2019. All the feels with this book and make sure you have tissues!
There are many things that TOO GOOD AT GOODBYES by R.C. Boldt to say in this review for it told so much things by this talented author. It may seem like a cliche rock star romance but it is more than just a Ice Princess, we see two souls lost searching for peace again. Everybody sees Simone is a cold, cheating songstress but really she is just a woman wanting to be loved. Then we have Kane who has been loved but also hurt because of it. Two people not really knowing one really existed until it is too late. R.C. Boldt created these two so beautiful yet heartbroken as well and we see second chances where they never imaged to happen again. All in all it is really good filled with a love that only songs can bring to life.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
I have been reading Boldt’s books for a few years now. Not to toot my own horn, but I like to think that I have become an expert on her books. I peddle them out like candy on Halloween. With that being said, I went into this one with trepidation. I am not usually a fan of “rock star” books. They’re just not my thing. I thought this might be the book of hers that didn’t grab me…
Boy was I WRONG! I swear I am not being biased. I really wasn’t sure if I should read this. However, I wouldn’t be an honest reviewer if I didn’t, would I? I can, without a doubt, say that Boldt DID IT AGAIN! She wrote away from her “norm” and hit it out of the park!
I enjoyed the push and pull full of angst this book delivered. Boldt is really good with giving you all of the angst when she wants to. The angst in this one is the best part of the book. You want things to happen, but at the same time you want it to go slow so you can savor it.
This book is the perfect combination of angst, drama, friends to lovers, boss to lovers romance. You don’t want to pass this one up!
In this story we have Simone King, “Ice Princess of Pop”, and her new bodyguard Kane Windham.
Simone is 17, with a bank account with more zero’s than many adults is hard. Being a 17 yr old with and having a hit on the top 40 charts is super hard. Finding out mommy dearest has been embezzled her money is the worst. Having your name spread across tabloid after tabloid is very hard. Who can she trust in the music world?
Kane is an ex-military member hired to protect Simone.
Lots of ups and down with this book. Lots of Drama always seeming to get in the way. Lots of will they won’t they moments.
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.
This story was a very refreshing view on the rockstar romance where the rockstar is actually the female character. It was quite raw in terms of emotions. And Simone and Kane were such an adorable couple! I loved getting to understand them.
Simone, aka The Ice Princess of Pop, is underrated character. In private, she is kind, charitable, very friendly and lovable person who has to deal with the fame and all that comes with it, especially the press. What I loved about Kane was that he was quite open-minded about Simone and her issues. As he got to know her, he was discovering the kind of person she really was.
The storyline was easy and straightforward, but there were a lot of moments that made me laugh, some made me cry and some were really unexpected. Overall it was a nice, rather easy read.
5 stars!
Simone has not had a good personal life even though her professional life is awesome, now she is falling for Kabe her bodyguard and she is trying to make him see she is worth the fight.
Yay for Simone and Kane!! This is a story of two people who have burned by love one two many times and both are determined to commit their lives with no strings attached…famous last words..
What started as fun and way quickly turns to having to many strings they can’t be untangled but love makes people stupid sometimes and they are a little slow on the uptake so watching it happen to these characters was awesome!
I really enjoyed this slow burn but super intense romance. It had some much angst, sweet moments and hard lessons and I highly recommend that you check it out!
I have been waiting for Kane’s book. He has been in some of the other books and is a character I wanted a story for.
Kane is heart broken and doesn’t know where to go next. When and opp comes up to help a friend he goes on the road with Simone.
Simone is not like the media portrays her to be. When the new security guy steps on…he isn’t like the others. He sees her.
I really enjoy rock star romances. This one did not disappoint. The only thing, for me, I felt a disconnect when Kane sees hia old flame again. There should be more fight for the right person in your life.
I absolutely loved this book!!!!
R.C. Boldt has done it AGAIN!! Every book I’ve read by this author just keeps getting better and better!
Simone and Kane are so perfect!
I fell in love with kane’s southern charm, and Simone is such a powerful BADASS rockstar, how can you NOT love her?!!
I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll just say GO READ THIS BOOK NOW!!!!
I adore this author. Her books are captivating. I really enjoyed this story! ( even though the pop princess reminded me of Taylor Swift!)
From the first few chapters I was intrigued with the plot and I love how it all progressed. I really appreciated the level of character growth and development that was put into this story! I’m anxious to see what is next from this wonderful author!
The bodyguard and the pop princess. The author takes a cliche story line and turns into an inspiring rock star romance with a difference. This story had so much depth and character and I could not put it down. Highly recommend!!
Loving these characters! After achieving total stardom, Simone is on top of the world with her career, but it has caused her personal life to go to the opposite as she becomes dubbed the Ice Princess of Pop. Struggling with the negative side of fame, security is extremely important to her to maintain what she needs done. Kane is filling in for Simone’s head of security and while there’s a learning curve, the pair end up developing a great working relationship that turns into more. With Simone finally able to let someone in and for Kane to fully understand who she is away from the façade of fame, they are explosive together. But when Kane’s past comes back into the picture and other factors play into why they can’t be together, they both run back into their comfort zones but can’t get each other out of their heads. I really enjoyed the premise of this plot and Simone’s character as a whole! I would love to see this author give us more in this book universe from others in Simone’s team and band!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
A romance story about a pop princess and her body guard? YES sign me up!! I love R.C. Bolt’s books and this was no exception. Another great read that starts off as a slow burn to steamy romance. A definite favorite.
