Too Good At Goodbyes by RC Boldt takes us to the pain, struggle and heartbreak behid the shiny life of a celebrity singer. And it tells a fairytale love story where love is found in the most uncommon place.
Kane is employed as the temporary Head of Personal Security of Simone King, Ice Princess of Pop. He was drowning in the sorrow and anger from a failed love. And so he entered the job with a sceptical and hard mind specially with the preconceived notion about Simone from media. But this woman turns out to be nothing like he expected. She is carrying huge burden of self deprecation and insecurity in her heart. She is talented, dedicated, hard working, passionate, kind, caring and sweetest person to be with. Far far away from the negative picture in media. And Kane finds himself falling for her. He wants to fight her battles and slay her demons. The question is can he stop himself from hurting her?
Simone ‘s character was inspiring and adorable. She is a combination of strength and vulnerability. But Kane is my absolute favorite. Bossy, gorgeous, loyal, protective, sensitive and with the right edge of danger. His broody and cold persona transforms slowly. And I love the slow burn and build up of chemistry between them. But I expected a lot angst and heartbreaking emotions because that is the standard RC Boldt style. And I missed that connection and intensity in this story.
If you love romance set in celebrity world with all the glamourous complications, you should definitely read Too Good At Goodbyes by RC Boldt. A captivating combination of love, passion and friendship.

4.5 Stars – Kane’s story is finally here! And I loved it!!
Since Kane’s first appearance in Boldt’s books, I was smitten with him and hoped he would get a book of his own. Although I had no inkling of what kind of story his would be, I still didn’t expect this. Well, who would have thought that our beloved Kane catches himself a famous popstar?! But of course the woman who got to own Kane’s heart was someone special. It takes a special person to find a special soul.
Simone was not the stone-cold and unfeeling ice princess the media made her out to be but as an outsider, only knowing what the media wrote about her, Kane couldn’t imagine her being the complete opposite. But he learned pretty quickly that she was compassionate, humble and a very private person with a big heart. It’s because a lot of people had taken advantage of her that she was protective of her personal life and heart. And who could blame her?! Kane had his fair share of heartbreak as well to deal with. Can two broken hearts find love again?
I absolutely loved this story! It was unexpected touching at parts and had a very realistic feel to it.
Despite all the glitz and glamour, Simone led a lonely life. She had to be careful how to present herself at all times because the press could spin everything however they liked and make her life much more difficult. It was inspiring how wonderful of a person she was and that she gave not only money for help but precious time to others without any gain for herself.
Her life was so different to the one Kane led and this new job wasn’t like any other security job that he had so far. I loved watching him in this new environment and how he adapted to foreign situations.
The writing of this story was amazing, just like all the other books from RC Boldt. I loved the storyline, the realistic feel of it and the loveable characters. I liked how the author addressed topics that are often frowned upon or hush-hush in our society. Her characters feel like real life people dealing with real life problems and that makes them even more loveable and easy to connect with. Like Matty, he was hilarious! I absolutely loved that guy! He gave this story so much love and fun and had a big part of making it so great.
Although this was a very, very slow burn romance (and somewhere along the road it was a bit too slow for my personal liking), I understood and liked the way it moved along regarding the characters feelings for each other because anything else would have felt rushed or unnatural. I’m just not a big fan of slow burn romances because it simultaneously slows the story down at times. But that’s the only reason why I gave this book a 4.5 star rating – and that’s totally a personal preference because I loved everything else, from Simone and Kane, to the cameos from previous books as well as the newly introduced characters. It was such a sweet and very cute story and the ending was adorable. I loved the banter between the characters.
What a fabulous read! With the gorgeous leading characters of Kane and Simone we have a delicious romance that, for me, ticked all the boxes. It has a great story line, a golden hearted heroine, fast, engaging dialogue, a superb best friend in Matty and well paced growth in a lovely love story.
I really felt as if I had been introduced personally to both Kane and Simone and thoroughly enjoyed making friends with them, though not so friendly that I was a voyeur, !!
A definite 5 star read from start to finish.
Having been a fan of Boldt’s since her debut novel, I was super excited for her new release Too Good at Goodbyes. If you have ever had the pleasure of reading Boldt’s novels you know that she can write some pretty powerful love stories. This book was exactly that.
Normally, I’m not a fan of a rockstar romance. However Boldt twisted this one up in a way that took the glamour, the big city lights and sparkle away leaving two characters stripped down to their deepest, raw emotions. To the world and press, Pop princess Simone seemed to have everything at her fingertips. This ice princess rules the pop music industry, however beneath that surface Simone is continually breaking as the works hard to trust anyone within her path. Facing similar distrust, Kane Windham didn’t know he would fall for Simone when he signed up to be her short term bodyguard. Both raw from prior hurts come together in a deeply created bond filled with highs and lows between characters.
I truly loved how Boldt kinda turned this classic trope upside down. We’d normally find a guy rocker falling in love with the girl next door. I liked how she created a rockstar with a real head on her shoulders with real life hurts. Simone wasn’t your leading lady needing a rescue. Instead, she rescued everyone and herself in the process.
Boldt continues to be one of my favorite authors. With each new release, she pushes her craft further and develops even more characters to fall in love with. I highly recommend that you take a chance on Boldt and Too Good at Goodbyes.
The only book I have read from this author was the Good Samaritan and it was amazing so when I saw this book I had to read it. This one has a different feel and I don’t mean that in a bad way. This author gives us a different look at the life of a star and the opposition she has to deal with. We get the down and dirty behind the scenes and I don’t mean sex, drugs and parties. These two brought together by circumstances, with a shared pain/heartbreak/disappointment in relationships and people find out there is more beneath the surface. The look that this author gives us is what ties you to the characters and thereby drawing you into their story.
I love the ending and love how this author brings it all together. I will definitely watch this author’s books and make sure I get the chance to enjoy her way of doing it. It’s an emotional story that will touch you in a different way which is what makes it special.
As a superstar, who do you trust? Friends, lovers, employees, everyone in your life might be using you.
R.C. Boldt brought a beautiful story to life in Too Good at Goodbyes. An intimate look at a rockstars life and a man who was broken by love. This is no ordinary tale of love, this is one that is sensitized by living under a microscope and two hearts learning to love again.
Everyone lives under the impression that famous people live glamourous lives. I’d say the answer to that is yes and no. Yes, they travel to exotic places and have the very best of everything at their disposal, but also no, because their fame causes them to be sequestered in hotel rooms unable to view the local sights, enjoy the amenities, or really partake in much of anything. So how do famous people fall in love or make friends?
Kane Windham is hired as a temporary body guard for Simone King and he doesn’t take that responsibility lightly. Simone lives under a spotlight and her life isn’t exactly her own. She shows one side to the world and keeps her personal life private. When Simone meets Kane the instant attraction is there, but they are both professional and don’t give in to their attraction, even though they live in very close quarters.
After a few weeks of cool professionalism, they finally give in and indulge in their attraction. Even though they both have been hurt, they find they have a lot in common. They grow close and eventually wonder if they could be more, that is until the past comes back. Is there a reason why Simone is called the Ice Princess of Pop. Perhaps she is too good at goodbyes for a reason.
Too Good at Goodbyes combines two of my favourite genres: rock stars and Marines. This fact alone had me eager to begin reading, but the stellar writing and emotion are what kept me engaged in Kane and Simone’s story.
Simone is painted as cold, but in reality, she is far from it; she hides behind this image. Kane is also in hiding. Broken hearted, he takes on the temporary role of Simone’s head of security as a much needed change of scenery. Kane is a man of few words and a professional until he gets to meet the real Simone.
I loved the quirky addition of text messages, song lyrics, news reports and interviews sprinkled throughout Too Good at Goodbyes. It gave the story an edge and made me feel like I was getting the inside story on the Ice Princess of Pop.
This book was a great read. It is full of love, loyalty and heartache. I really felt a part of the lives of these characters, not just the romance between the two leads, but the whole cast of characters.
I especially liked the ending of this novel. I am not a fan of the extended epilogue; however, the way the author presented this epilogue had me interested until the end. I look forward to reading more by RC Boldt.
**4.5 stars** R.C. Boldt is one of those authors that just pulls you in from the first page and Too Good at Goodbyes is no exception. Like all of the books I’ve read by her, I was hit with so many emotions. I loved this story and these characters and reading about Simone and Kane’s emotional journey to love and happiness was so worth it.
If you want to read a story that is filled with emotion, passion, laughter and more, I highly recommend Too Good at Goodbyes. Simone and Kane will steal your heart!
