The naked, maimed body found floating off the coast of Cornwall’s English Channel presents a vexing puzzle for Detective Inspector Morgan Davies and her Scene of Crimes Manager, Calum West. Post-mortem confirms the dead man’s wounds are evidence of torture, but without a name, a crime scene, or a motive, the detectives are stymied. Two days later, a woman reports her partner, Archie Hansen, … Hansen, missing. A farmer and Druid, Archie had made a dangerous discovery he dared not share with anyone. Is he the anonymous floater?
Unraveling this mystery of betrayal, greed, and revenge will test the investigative skills and intuition of Davies and West as never before. With so little evidence, can they outsmart a wickedly clever killer?

Not the most engrossing of reads but it is also not a waste of time. Read this when you want to relax, not when you are looking for edge of your seat reading.
Love Will North’s book. Next one is already preordered.
Love this author. I have read all his books. He is always compelling and his style is flawless.
Plodding, with occasional ‘too-cute’ interpersonal revelations and all too many references to the previous volume in the series.

I like the Cornwall setting, but why do authors have to confuse strong women with —itchy, starts with a b, women? The lead detective wasn’t charming in her irrascibility. She was unlikeable. So it’s unclear why everybody liked her despite that. I can’t decide if I’ll read another of these.
It was interesting and well written. However, I was able to figure some things out before they actually came to light in the story. I did enjoy the book.
I enjoy the twist and turns and you find in the hidden pages what you might think who it is and then be fooled.
This was a fun read. Interesting treatment of time – flashbacks building the underlying story as the investigation proceeds. Characters well-drawn if sometimes a bit overblown.
Somewhat predictable but interesting.
Excellent reading!
A good story well told. Believable characters – with an amusing interplay between the protagonist and her friend. The reader also gains an interesting understanding of the law and its interface with finds of archaeological treasure
Very interesting read
Alot of English terms from Wales and Scotland. You will need to read in context to understand the plot and importance the items are to the settings.
A good plot and interesting characters in an interesting setting, but the jumpy chronology makes it hard to follow.
Quaint introduction to a section of the Western English coast and the old world of wicans and similar beliefs. All twisted into an interesting mystery.
Did not finish. Did not hold my interest!
I have read several of Will North’s books, and found them all to be intriguing and great stories. I will read any of his publications!
Filled with as mant twists and turns as Cornish lanes, North brings the Cornish countryside and quirky characters vibrantly to life.
Kept me on my toes.
Very interesting people. Entertaining, original.
