The naked, maimed body found floating off the coast of Cornwall’s English Channel presents a vexing puzzle for Detective Inspector Morgan Davies and her Scene of Crimes Manager, Calum West. Post-mortem confirms the dead man’s wounds are evidence of torture, but without a name, a crime scene, or a motive, the detectives are stymied. Two days later, a woman reports her partner, Archie Hansen, … Hansen, missing. A farmer and Druid, Archie had made a dangerous discovery he dared not share with anyone. Is he the anonymous floater?
Unraveling this mystery of betrayal, greed, and revenge will test the investigative skills and intuition of Davies and West as never before. With so little evidence, can they outsmart a wickedly clever killer?

Very British in that it goes on and on about The characters personal relationships.
Twisting plot and just a little provocative. A fun read.
Very different and a little confusing to understand the British language, however, the content kept you wanting to know how it was going to end.
Loved the setting in Cornwall
It jumped back and forth in time. Could have been a better ending.
Super absorbing, well told story until the very end. Ending fell flat. I had the feeling the author’s publisher called her to say “I need your manuscript now”, and she just stopped writing – period.
This is a great read – well written, characters that I care about. I read it a couple of weeks ago, so I can’t remember the details – too many books since then!
Fast reading
Had quite a bit of British slang in the dialog; had to interpret by context.
Nobody does murder like the Brits!
Murder, Druids, ancient artifacts….good read
In addition to having everything a good mystery (as I define it) should have, the writing in this one is superb. By that I mean that Will North was able to do something I thought was impossible: Write a book with enough different characters that someone as name-challenged as I didn’t abandon it within the first 50 pages and a certainly amount of profanity. I’m one of those people who is far more likely to remember your dog’s or cat’s name than yours. The fact that North was able to describe all these characters so precisely yet seemingly effortlessly in a way that brought them to life enabled me to do what I thought was impossible.
I will note, however, that the cover reference to Too Clever By Half as a “Davies and West” mystery is somewhat misleading. Each member of their team is well-developed, intriguing in their own right, and an integral part of the plot. Although I certainly wish neither Davies nor West any harm and wish them both long lives, were such to occur, there are other interesting members of their team who could fill the void.
Keeps you guessing until the end!
These stories are really good. It is hard to put them down.
Very good British Police mystery with interesting characters and very good local description.
I knew ‘s no done it” very early on. Slow at times.
I really enjoyed the reading and the interaction between all the characters it was very interesting my family is from that area of the world and it was great to read about how the people lived
Good interesting read with setting in England
I didn’t care for it. I couldn’t finish as I found my mind wandering while I was reading. Maybe it gets better? I only made it to chapter 7.
Well written, nice portrayal of Cornwall, good plot, interesting characters.
Read and enjoyed. Kept my interest throught
