The naked, maimed body found floating off the coast of Cornwall’s English Channel presents a vexing puzzle for Detective Inspector Morgan Davies and her Scene of Crimes Manager, Calum West. Post-mortem confirms the dead man’s wounds are evidence of torture, but without a name, a crime scene, or a motive, the detectives are stymied. Two days later, a woman reports her partner, Archie Hansen, … Hansen, missing. A farmer and Druid, Archie had made a dangerous discovery he dared not share with anyone. Is he the anonymous floater?
Unraveling this mystery of betrayal, greed, and revenge will test the investigative skills and intuition of Davies and West as never before. With so little evidence, can they outsmart a wickedly clever killer?

Would get more by this author
Love these characters
Too much character angst
A slow moving murder investigation, but enough to be readable.
Best police/detective “British outlook novel”I’ve read this year. Well done!
This was an OK read, but I didn’t really engage with the characters. Took a long time getting to the point.
lost interest
This crime drama is set in Cornwall, England. The author, who writes extremely well, does a nice job of describing the area, its history and culture, and develops characters who are both unique and realistic. He uses the device of separate chronologies [perspectives from the various suspects and investigators] to gradually reveal “the who did what when”. Some may find it confusing but I thought it worked well in discovering character motivations and timing.
Loved the setting and the Druidry. Interesting characters and weird storyline. However, one in the series is probably enough.
Good beginning that sets strong stage for rest of book. Author creates characters as needed to move the main detective to solve the book’s beginning.
I thought this book was easy to read, with a few twisted and turns. The best thing about the book is the discription of the countryside and it’s people. Took me forever to read as I got lost as to who some of the people were. Not a bad read.
Interesting twist
Enjoyable. I wanted to keep going to find out exactly how it would be solved.
Great story. Would lij e more books by Will North. Grest storytelling.
I liked the twists in the plot
Great detective mystery. Loved the setting in remote Cornwall England. This is the second book in a series of three with this detective. I plan on reading the other two.
After I got into the heavy Cornwall prose I got sucked into this story and its characters and couldn’t put it down until the end! Well worth the effort getting into the prose.
This one kept me guessing, multiple suspects with plenty of motives, and an unusual appointment timeline, police working forward from the crime, while suspects moving from planning to action. Nice, satisfying outcome.
Boring!
Excellent read!
It was so well written that I didn’t want the book to end.
I look forward to reading more of Will North’s books.
