How exactly has one good deed landed me in the penalty box? Ice Knights defenseman Zach Blackburn has come down with the flu, and my BFF–his PR manager–begs me to put my nursing degree to use and get him back to health. Of course she would call in a favor for the most hated man in Harbor City. But when he’s finally on the mend and I’m sneaking out of his place, everything goes sideways. … goes sideways. Paparazzi spot me and pictures, plus accusations that I slept with him, fly faster than a hockey puck.
At first, all of Harbor City wants my blood–or to give me a girlie-girl makeover. But then…the team finally wins a game. And now this fickle town wants me with the big jerk twenty-four seven.
Argh. I never slept with him the first time! But no one will listen. Then the grumpy bastard goes and promises to break his no-fan-appearances rule to help raise money for a free health clinic–but only if I’m rink-side at every game. That’s not a deal I can turn down.
But when the team keeps winning, and I realize there’s more to him than his bad reputation, suddenly remembering to keep my real hands off my fake date gets harder and harder to do.
Each book in the Hartigans series is STANDALONE:
* Butterface
* Muffin Top
* Tomboy

Overworked ER nurse Fallon Hartigan can’t say no when her bestie Lucy asks her for a favour. Which is how Fallon ends up playing nurse to the hot Zach and then becoming tabloid fodder. Ice Knights defenseman Zach Blackburn talks Fallon into attending his home games as his lucky charm in exchange for him putting in an appearance at a charity carnival fundraiser. Fallon and Zach have a one night stand to get each other out of their systems but what if one night isn’t enough?
Tomboy is a funny, drama-filled and steamy story that will pull you in
I am truly enjoying The Hartigans series by Avery Flynn. In Tomboy we get Fallon’s story and continue to see and love the Hartigan family and those close to them! Though this is a part of a series, you can read each book as a standalone, as each book is about a different couple. I have, however, truly enjoyed all the books in the series and highly recommend reading them.
When Lucy, one of her best friends, calls in a favor, Fallon is not happy The favor? Take care of one sick Zach Blackburn, the defenseman for the Ice Knights, who is currently not playing very well. And not very well liked because of it. Begrudgingly, Fallon steps in to help, but then she finds herself his lucky charm and now she cannot get rid of him, but does she really want that?
Now Fallon is attending his games and Zach is volunteering at her clinic. As they spend time together, they get to know each other. She begins to see a very different side of Zach. Fallon was strong and determined, but also very caring. Zach was moody and kept people from getting to close. And neither could deny the chemistry they shared!
I enjoyed reading Tomboy by Avery Flynn. I loved Fallon and Zach so much, their story and the family and friends featured in this series. This was just such a sweet story and I loved getting lost in it.

Happy reading!
Tomboy may be book 3 in The Hartigans Series but it can certainly be read as a stand-alone and I would certainly recommend this book to all Hockey lovers as well as rom com lovers.
Zack Blackburn could well be the most hated defenseman in Harbor City nothing has gone right since he joined the local Hockey Team the Ice Knights but up until now that hasn’t bothered him because he doesn’t need to be liked he doesn’t need friends that way he doesn’t have to explain his past and the secrets he is keeping. Getting sick with flu has his PR manager begging her best friend Fallon a nurse to call in and make sure he stays alive.
Fallon Hartigan an ER nurse and diehard Ice Knights fan really doesn’t want anything to do with the man who can’t seem to get it right for the team but the her kindhearted nature takes over and she drops in on him over the weekend to make sure he is ok .
Strange things happen after that weekend, Zack takes to the ice and he plays the best he has played in a long time could Fallon be his good luck charm, even the team coach asks him to make sure Fallon or Lady Luck comes to all the home games now he just has to convince her she wants to help..
I loved this book I loved being on Fallon and Zacks journey as he learnt to trust again and she learnt that you can’t fix someone if they don’t want to be fixed. This book has all the feels you want and need in a great read, I laughed, I swooned and hoped and prayed for a HEA for this adorable couple and Zack is adorable even if you don’t like him in the beginning you will love him by the end. Once again this very talented author shows us that family and friends are important and I love the loyalty the Hartigan family share, can’t wait to see where Avery Flynn takes us next.
Oh this book was fantastic, loved everything about the book, from the hot as hell chemistry between Fallon and Zach to their funny as heck banter and everything in between. The book was super sexy and an awesome read. A must read for all that love a good enemies to lovers story!!
I am in love with this whole series and definitely on Team Zuck.
TOMBOY by Avery Flynn is book Three in The Hartigans Series. This is the story of Fallon Hartigan and Zach Blackburn. This was a standalone for me. Fallon is a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital along with volunteering at a low income medical facility. So her time and stress level are stretched. But when her best friend and future sister-in-law calls asking for her help…she has a hard time saying no. Lucy is a PR for Zach who plays for the Ice Knights and isn’t a local favorite. Lucy talks Fallon into going to help Zach who happens to be sick and no one to take care of him. Both attracted to the other but have a concept of them in their head that isn’t what the other really is, so it was fun reading their story. Really enjoyed this book and will look for more from this author.
I loved this book! Fallon is a trauma nurse and one of seven siblings. Her best friend (and future sister in law) Lucy is PR rep of troubled hockey player Zach. Lucy is on her way out of town on vacation when Zach gets horribly sick, and instead of making Lucy cancel her trip Fallon begrudgingly agrees to go help him. She never thought a good deed would go viral in such a wrong way but it did.
Once Fallon and Zach stopped throwing up their armor at every conversation and allowed their vulnerabilities to show, they really had a meaningful connection. They have completely different backgrounds but have more in common than they expected. Both are quick to fight for and defend what – or who – they care about. Zach also needed to learn that he can let people care about him without expecting to get hurt. He had so much growth during this book.
Fallon was awesome, though. She is feisty and confident and can completely take care of herself. She also rides a skateboard (I’ve always wanted to but never could!) and literally saves lives on a daily basis.
This was a feel-good sports romance, and unlike the cliche in movies, the tomboy does NOT need the girly makeover to get the guy and succeed at life. And that is a much better message to put out into the world.
What a ride this book had me on! Tomboy had me hooked from start to finish!
Fallon was such a force to be reckoned with especially being a Hartigan! Her caring nature and ability to tell it like it is made me really admire her! She had fire in her!
I wasn’t sure what to make of Zach at first but he really grew on me as I kept reading and I grew to rather like the man!
I especially loved Fallons family and Zach’s hockey teammates!
When the going gets tough your true family rally around!!
I loved the storyline, advice given and the whole friendship that seemed to blossom!!
A really great entertaining but also heartwarming read! A perfect addition to the series!
When Fallon an ‘ass kicking and name taking ER nurse’ is begged by her bestie and PR guru Lucy, to look after her Sick client. Fallon wants nothing more than to say no! But her big heart and compassion take over and she finds herself not only caring for the Ice Hearts defence player… who is NOT helping out her much loved Hockey Team but seems hell bent on ruining them… Fallon realises pretty quickly that she maybe more than like the ‘most hated man in Harbour City’ and Zack recognises her for more than just his good luck charm
If you have not read the first two instalments in this series… Butterface and Muffin Top
STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING! Read no further! Because …this book CAN be read as a standalone…but you missing out on two well written books that add so much more story and character to this book!
This book has been a much anticipated read for me, as soon a we met Fallon Hartigan in the earlier books I was hoping that she would have her own Hartigan book! It did not disappoint! In fact it was a bloody fantastic read and I think it is my favourite so far
Zack and Fallon’s chemistry was brilliant… and watching their relationship develop and grow… was really great romance writing…I will admit I ‘Eeeekkkkk’d’ with happiness a number of times… and my romance/Romcom/sports loving brain may have imploded an number of times.
Seeing Zack lower his asshat amour to Fallon and Fallon lowering her bossy asskicking shield… allowing both their insecurities to show…was both a joy and an absolute pleasure to witness.. I also really enjoyed the camaraderie and team spirit that Zack ( reluctantly) shared with his fellow team mates… the themes of this story is all about trust and allowing oneself to be vulnerable and it was great reading about the different scenarios in which Zack allowed that to happen.
I read this book thinking… ‘ooooh I hope the author writes more about the Ice Hearts…’ WATCH THIS SPACE… And I’m looking forward to more from this series… because we have a few more Hartigan brothers and sisters to read about yet
Another great read from Avery Flynn with all the humor and heart that I have come to expect. I have been a fan of Ms. Flynn’s for a long time and have yet to be disappointed when I open up a new book from her.
I was on #TeamZuck from the moment Fallon rang the buzzer on Zack’s front door and refused to back down. Fallon was everything I love in a heroine – she takes no crap from anyone, refuses to change who she is for anyone, but will also give all of herself to help anyone. Zack was your typical macho athlete, but underneath the cavalier attitude there was a lot he was dealing with that he never let anyone see – until Fallon somehow gets past all his defenses. These two together had that serious love/hate thing going on – but boy was it clear that as soon as they fell they were going to fall hard and fast and steam up pages. I loved the banter between the two, whether it was face to face or via text message, and there was no shortage of both laughs and dirty-talking that they could dish out. But what I loved most was that underneath all the jabs and jokes these two really cared about one another and were just what the other needed.
One of the things that makes this such a fun series is the cast of characters that surrounds the main characters. The Hartigan family is larger than life and tight as can be. They are all in each other’s faces but would go to the mat to defend and protect each other without even asking why. Fallon’s friends are exactly what I’d want in my BFFs – sassy, snarky, and supportive, and not afraid to kick your butt when you needed it. And getting to meet some of Zack’s teammates added even more fun to the mix – and I can’t wait to get my hands on some hot hockey stories that are in the works!
This is the third book in the series but can easily read as a standalone. There are tie-ins to the previous books as well as other series by the author, but enough back-story is given when needed to make this work on its own.
If you haven’t read an Avery Flynn book you are in for a treat, so grab this one and see what you have been missing – but be warned, you will probably want to go back and read her entire backlist of books once you do! And, if you have read one of her books, then you’ll get more of the sass and snark that you would expect all wrapped up in hot romance package.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy from the publisher via NetGalley of this book.
Every time I read Avery Flynn’s work, I have this exquisite feeling of happiness and warmth inside me. She never stops making me smile and swoon. Tomboy was no exception. I finished it in one sitting and never wanted the ride to end!
Tomboy can be read as standalone but I feel the reading experience is better if you read about the other Hartigan siblings. I love this family. And Fallon Hartigan is totally my kind of girl. She is an efficient nurse in professional life. She is the kind of strong and sassy woman who wants to carry everyone’s burden on her shoulder. She has this no-nonsense and straightforward attitude with a priceless sense of humor. Avery Flynn always make her ladies beautiful inside and that’s just so inspiring to read in the present society where misperceptions about bodily beauty run amok.
And the battle she is fighting for Zach Blackburn is an uphill one. Zach is the star player of Ice Knight but his performance is poorly affected by his family’s betrayal. He is resigned and thinks the worst about himself. Everyone thinks he is a self centred and egotistical guy but he has a completely different aspect of his personality he keeps hidden. I love this sexy hunk of a man full of contradictions. Fallon is the one who makes him think differently. And we have a beautiful story of love, friendship and family.
The writing was extremely entertaining. The fun, the banter, the sarcasm and the emotions all were spot on. I lost myself in the pages and found myself laughing and crying along with the characters. This book is a definition of having a good time.
Tomboy by Avery Flynn is a hilarious, sexy and sassy love story. It has sparks. It has chemistry. It has banter and fun. It has emotions.Avery Flynn has written another brilliant rom com and I had the blast of my life while reading it!
Received ARC through Netgalley for Honest Review
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this wonderful, snarky, and funny book, Tomboy by Avery Flynn, the book three in her Hartigan series. This book had me on an emotional journey as we followed Fallon and Zach’s love story. This amazing story pulls out all the stops.
These two exemplified the importance of honesty, trust, and love overcoming all obstacles. I loved how strong Fallon was and how she knew she was not a girlie-girl as well as a very caring, compassionate, control freak. Zach learned from his parents not to trust others but that didn’t give them,as his managers, the right to rob him blind. When he discovered what they were doing, he paid them off, refused to ever see them again and worked hard to repay some of the money they borrowed in his name. He was broke, not able to afford anything extra and embarrassed at his naivety. He became angry, frustrated, and afraid to make friends with his teammates. No wonder he couldn’t find love or that special someone. After helping Zach recover from food poisoning, Fallon attends one of Zach’s hockey games. Zach’s playing turns around and Falllon becomes his “Lady Luck” with him needing her to continue to see him so the team would keep on winning. Fallon attempts to help Zach learn how families truly support one another and how to trust that others can be trusted to help and support, not try to crush him. This story was filled with sarcasm, laughs, snark, and even some sexy scenes that made me wish it never ended.
Ms. Flynn wrote a wonderful and hysterical story that was moving and filled with sexual chemistry, wonderful dialogue, and endearing characters that should definitely not be missed. I highly recommend Tomboy to other readers and I am anxious for the next book in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Over the last several books by Ms Flynn, I have gotten to know (and love) the Hartigan family as we have watched two of the boys and one of the sisters fall in love. Fallon is a character that we’ve seen in each of the previous books and it was a pleasure to get to know her better here.
Zach is another character we’ve seen glimpses of before, but didn’t know well. It was fun seeing the gooey center behind his bad boy behavior.
Tomboy is a well written and sweet story. The message here is a bit lighter than the other Hartigan books, but is still impactful. Zach comes to the table with a bit more baggage than Fallon in this series installment. It was entertaining to see her, the Hartigan family, and his hockey teammates wear down his rough edges.
While this is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand alone. There are references to characters and stories from other books, but nothing that keeps Fallon and Zach from being fully enjoyed. It was also fun to meet Zach’s hockey teammates who we will be seeing more of soon.
Loved this story. Fallon is a no nonsense take no shit tomboy and I LOVE her! I love heroines that take no shit from the hero and Fallon is it. Through out the series you hear things about the most hated man in Harbor City, he’s not winning games, has a gives no f*cks attitude, and gets into fights with the hockey fans, I wasn’t really sure he could be redeemed. Until you find out why he’s like that, now no spoilers but it’s a great read! Fallon takes no shit from Zach and Zach learns that his past experiences do not dictate future experiences. I love the Hartigan family, they are big and messing and in each other’s business but they love big. Great book
Tomboy is fun and the story is refreshing. I like how both Fallon and Zach deal with the pressure of the #TeamZuck and the instant stardom of their new relationship (although at first fabricated mostly by social media) they didn’t let it rule their lives. We live in a world that is dictated by technology and Tomboy was still a fun, steamy, page-turning story at the end of the day.
Zach Blackburn may be the most hated man playing for the Ice Knights, but he has good reason (or mostly good reason) for his “keep away from me” attitude. He’s been burned by people he should have been able to trust, so instead he now just keeps everyone at arms length, including his fellow teammates. However, when he comes down with the flu and needs some TLC, Lucy, the PR manager calls in a favor to her BFF, Fallon Hartigan a nurse who knows how to handle a man like Zach.
All Fallon wants to do is spend the weekend in a sleep coma, instead she finds herself standing outside the most hated man’s home in Harbor City-Zach Blackburn. She pretty much doesn’t like the man either, as an avid fan of hockey herself, but she’s there merely because Lucy begged her to be. Fallon isn’t a woman who puts up with much so when Zach tries to give her crappy attitude, Fallon isn’t fazed in the slightest. Once he is finally on the mend, she heads back to reality, and Zach miracuously begins playing better that things actually get weird in her life #TeamZuck is born and her life gets complicated.
But if she is going to become the lucky charm to the most hated man in Harbor City, she needs him to do something for her in return. Let the negotiations begin.
**4-4.5 stars** I have thoroughly enjoyed The Hartigans Series by Avery Flynn and I think this one may be my favorite!
When Fallon Hartigan (an ER Nurse) agrees to take care of the most hated man in Harbor City, Zach Blackburn (an Ice Knights Hockey defenseman) after he falls ill, as a favor to her best friend (Zach’s PR Manager) it’s the beginning of something neither one them could have foreseen. Zach Blackburn hasn’t been playing up to standards and the team is paying for it. But Fallon seems to be his “Lady Luck” lately and things start to turn around for Zach and his team. They have a deal though, Zach attends a couple of her fundraisers for the town’s free Health Clinic and she will attend his home games in hopes of the luck continuing. You know those sports superstitions…
Zach has some major things going on in his life though that he doesn’t want getting out to the public and it may just put his relationship and career in jeopardy…
I was rooting for these two from the beginning! Hot Chemistry, fun banter and super sexy, this was a very entertaining read!
I highly recommend The Hartigans series!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
4.5 Lady Luck Stars!
I love this sweet, sassy, and steamy romance! Fallon is a die hard hockey fan of her hometown team the Ice Knights. Their defenseman, Zach Blackburn, has been a huge disappointment to the team and the town. Zach doesn’t care what others think since he has been used and abused by those he thought he could trust. Now he is just trying to get by day by day, until he gets the flu. When Fallon comes to nurse him back to health, he can’t get rid of the ball busting woman fast enough. But Fallon is a Hartigan, and they never back down from a challenge. Little did they know that Fallon, a natural beauty with a heart of gold would turn Zach’s luck around. Fallon doesn’t want to be a lucky charm and Zach doesn’t want to let her go. These two headstrong people butt heads, challenge each other, and make each other stronger. This is what Flynn does best, fun and quirky characters, snarky humor, and lots of steamy sexual tension in a heartwarming story. This is a great addition to the Hartigan series and an awesome build up to her next series about the sexy Ice Knights hockey Hotties!
I was excited to see that Fallon was getting her own book, & even more excited to see that “the most hated man in Harbor City” was going to be her love interest. I loved watching Fallon & Zach butt heads and learn to appreciate the things about each other that others didn’t. I really enjoyed seeing another side to Zach. I hope we get to see more of his teammates in the future!!!
The Hartigans
I am so in love with this series! And I have to honestly say, at this point Avery could publish her grocery list and I would devour it like it was my last meal.
Tomboy is the story of Fallon Hartigan and Zack Blackburn. We got a small taste of them in Muffin Top and I knew I was gonna love on both these characters hard.
Fallon is unapologetically a tomboy, and I love that about her. With the large, loud Irish family she has, it has made her strong, independent and a fighter of those that are wronged. But that urge to fight can also become a downfall. Sometimes blind fury at some injustice can come back to bite you in the backside.
Zack has the world fooled with his alphahole behavior. The most hated man in Harbor City, oh pahleeze! We find out that because of the ultimate betrayal, Zack has learned to build wall high, wide and deep around him. But with meeting Fallon, the walls slowly start getting chipped away.
As with all of Avery’s stories, the humor is amazing, the world she creates in Harbor City is stellar and the chemistry between Zack and his Lady Luck is electric!
Avery is definitely a “one-click” author for me and I cannot wait to see what she writes next! Oh and in closing, I will say I am am totally #TeamZuck!!
I enjoyed this whole series, but I especially loved tomboy Fallon with hockey play Zack. Love sports romances and that Fallon wasn’t a girly girl. It was interesting to see Zack’s character develop from not trusting anyone to realizing that his team was his family and Fallon was everything. I’m hoping Tess gets her own book and I’m excited that there will a hockey player series next. Can’t wait to read!
I am sooo hooked on this series! I love Avery Flynn & her writing. Her books grab you and you can’t put them down.
Fallon & Zach will have you laughing & crying. I was rooting for them in the beginning just bc of the way this story takes off. To say that this book was great would not even be enough. I can’t wait for the next book!
