How exactly has one good deed landed me in the penalty box? Ice Knights defenseman Zach Blackburn has come down with the flu, and my BFF–his PR manager–begs me to put my nursing degree to use and get him back to health. Of course she would call in a favor for the most hated man in Harbor City. But when he’s finally on the mend and I’m sneaking out of his place, everything goes sideways. … goes sideways. Paparazzi spot me and pictures, plus accusations that I slept with him, fly faster than a hockey puck.
At first, all of Harbor City wants my blood–or to give me a girlie-girl makeover. But then…the team finally wins a game. And now this fickle town wants me with the big jerk twenty-four seven.
Argh. I never slept with him the first time! But no one will listen. Then the grumpy bastard goes and promises to break his no-fan-appearances rule to help raise money for a free health clinic–but only if I’m rink-side at every game. That’s not a deal I can turn down.
But when the team keeps winning, and I realize there’s more to him than his bad reputation, suddenly remembering to keep my real hands off my fake date gets harder and harder to do.

I am in love with the Hartigans series. This one is the first female Hartigan that we get to interact with and Fallon was the perfect choice for this one. I loved getting to see the no nonsense nurse take on the asshole, Zach Blackburn. Though as the story develops we learn (like with most bad boys) he has every right to act the way he does. But Fallon won’t take any of his crap and since his game has improved since meeting her, she can’t let down her entire city by not pretending to be his lady luck. Though the continued interaction between them cannot lead to anything good. Or could it?
I highly suggest this series to anyone and everyone. Even though reading the other two first would be beneficial, this novel reads as a true stand alone novel. So read them in order or don’t. Just make sure you read it!
**I received an ARC for an honest review**
Avery Flynn really straddles the line between fall out of your chair funny and heartfelt and emotional. She kicks her romantic comedies up another level by adding some realness to the story line. I can’t help but be drawn into this achingly slow burn between Fallon and Zach.
I really admire Fallon. She gives so much of herself over to her work and her community. I enjoyed seeing her just getting to be a woman, a beautiful woman that FEELS beautiful. Tomboy is one of those books that have incredibly different characters at the beginning. Zach is locked up like an penitentiary… nothing goes out, nothing comes in… until Fallon. Fallon gives all of herself to those she cares for. She’s willing to help anyone even the most hated man in town. They remind each other just what is needed in the others life right at a time they need it the most.
The story behind Zach’s closedoffness, is that even a word? Anyway way, he has his reasons for being who he is. Sometimes people get burned by those closest to them and it changes something in them. Miss Flynn shows us a prime example in Zach. This might be my favorite of this series so far. They all have a deeper meaning hidden among Flynn’s words. Tomboy was perfectly balanced in humor an in reality.
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
5 TOMBOY STARS!! What a fun read with lots of sexual tension. Zach and Fallon were so much fun to watch their story play out. They are so opposite of each other, but perfect together. Avery Flynn has done it again…..This is one book you will want to 1-Click.
4.5/5
Zach Blackman is the most hate player among the Ice Knights. It doesn’t help that his team is losing every game. He wasn’t used into getting help, but when he got the flu, he just couldn’t say no to his PR manager when she sent her nurse friend to get him back to health.
Fallon didn’t want to nurse the man that Harbor City hates, but she owes her friend, and she just couldn’t refuse. So instead of netflix-and-chilling just as she planned on her day off, she was nursing the Ice Knight defense man back into his robust state. Problem is that she was spotted by paparazzi going out from his place and was immediately labelled as one of his puck bunnies.
When the team finally wins a game and tagged Fallon as his Lady Luck, they struck a deal. She comes into his game, and he comes help to raise money to save the free health clinic she was working on. That was a great deal.
The more they spend time together, the more Fallon realizes that there was more to him than a bad-boy. He was something else. Soon, she found that it was difficult to pretend with him and keeping her hands to herself.
Zach has his issues and it pains me to know about it. He keeps it to himself because he’s ashamed. He didn’t want to whole world to know the skeletons in his closet, but when Fallon came into his life everything just fell into place. I love Fallon, besides the fact that she’s a nurse like me, I like it that she’s comfortable in her own skin and doesn’t wear makeup. She’s simple, cool and doesn’t take sh**.
I enjoyed reading the story. The pacing was perfect. The characters were simply amazing and I love their journey into finding each other, and finding themselves along the way. Their road was quite bumpy, but they made it to the end. TOMBOY is a fun, romantic, sexy and a sprinkle of drama.
Tomboy – Book 3 The Hartigans
5+++ Stars
Avery has another great hit on her hands! What a job well done!
What an amazing addition to the series! I love love this series! It is very well written! I love the covers! Captivated my interest throughout!
“You say I’m worth fighting for, but what about us? Are we worth fighting for? I think we are. I want to be my best with you, not because you’re my Lady Luck, but because you’re the woman I love.”
Very highly recommend!! Pick it up today. You will love it as much as I did!!
I love the Hartigan family & this book did not disappoint! I loved how tomboyish Fallon is, loving watching hockey & her work as a nurse. I enjoyed her banter with Ice Knights goalie Zach who needed her to help him both as a nurse & as a good luck charm. She has her work cut out for her when everyone starts talking about #TeamZuck. I liked how they didn’t let the media dictate their relationship. This was a great addition to the Hartigan series.
This is the third in the Hartigan series by Avery Flynn and I thought they couldn’t get any better! Boy was I wrong, I now have a new favorite. Zach and Fallon’s story grabbed me and gave me ALL the feels. Ms. Flynn created a beautiful love story. I cannot wait for the next one. If you are looking for a new series pick this one up! It’s so so great! You will be so glad you did!!!! Also remember each book can be read as a standalone!!!
Very good story about two people who get very defensive about themselves.
Zack had reasons from his past to be how he was. Fallon thought she was happy with who she was only to be proven wrong.
These two are explosive together!
Fallon was asked by her best friend to take care of one of her clients who is sick. Fallon is a nurse so she’s seen it all. Zack is a hockey player who was traded to the team he’s on but has played so poorly that the whole area hates him. He’s used to doing everything himself. Will he let Fallon in? Can Fallon be professional or will she fall for Zack?
MY FAVORITE HARTIGAN TO DATE!!
From the very beginning I was having fun reading this story. It didn’t drag and both Fallon and Zach captivated me thru the entire story. I didn’t just like their journey, I loved it to pieces!! They were ridiculously perfect for each other! From their sexual chemistry to their friendship chemistry, they had the best kind of friction. I loved the growth that both Fallon and Zach underwent in the story as well. They didn’t just journey towards a HEA but they journeyed within themselves as well.
This book can stand on its own in this series, so if you haven’t read Butterface or Muffin Top, this book will not give away any spoilers from them.
Tomboy by Avery Flynn is book number three in the Hartigans series. This is Zach Blackburn (hockey player) and Fallon Hartigan’s (nurse) story. I loved the other books in this series but Zach and Fallon’s story is my favorite.
Oh my goodness, I just loved Zach and Fallon’s characters. I loved the banter between them. This was such an entertaining and funny sexy read. A great book especially when you need to get away from everyday struggles.
FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I love this series and Tomboy is my new favorite!
Fallon and Zach definitely fall in the friends-to-lovers category. I loved watching them become friends and then realize they had something more. Their chemistry was off the charts and their banter was hilarious.
This book was fast paced and I didn’t want it to end! I am definitely looking forward to more books from this series!
I must begin by saying that the Hartigan family is just too much. They are quirky, funny , and oh so much fun to read.
Fallon is an ER nurse and she somehow gets roped into a good deed but she soon realizes that the good deed a.k.a Zach is going to be a disaster . He is the bad boy on and off the ice and now he is laid up with food poisoning in his house . His PR who happens to be friends with Fallon concocts this fabulous idea . GO to him, care for him , , keep him out of trouble and be on her way! Easy Peasy …not ! She had no idea that he would be arrogant, irritating , pig headed and so damn sexy even when he is sick!
Zach has had his share of good luck and rotten luck this qualifies as the rotten. He may have slept with a puck bunny ….from another team and been tainted in more ways than one . When Fallon arrives at his gate he wants help from no one but as soon as she mentions his PR rep and how this is going to get out of hand . He opens that gate and lets in Fallon and soon realizes that this gal wants no part of him and is no Florence Nightingale, more like a nightmare in a very appealing package with a smart sassy mouth!
Loved it !!

TOMBOY by Avery Flynn is book Three in The Hartigans Series. This is the story of Fallon Hartigan and Zach Blackburn. Now we get Fallon’s story, another Hartigan sibling. And what a story it is!! Fallon is not a girly girl. She doesn’t wear makeup or fix her hair nor date. Fallon is a classic workaholic nurse. She is always taking care of others- to the point of exhaustion. Going on little to no sleep. Between working at the hospital and the clinic, she has no social life nor boyfriend. So when Lucy calls with a huge favor she so badly wants to say no. Especially since it’s her long weekend off where she could finally get rest. But something has Fallon saying yes because something in her knows this is important and because of that had her saying yes.
Zach is sick. Super sick so that he calls the one person that he trusts– Lucy his PR rep. Lucy is the only person he has really gotten close to since the trade. She gets him and helped him out when he needed it the most. Yet what is he to think when he finds Fallon at his gate, waiting to be let him, per Lucy’s instructions?
How will Zach get rid of Fallon? Beautiful, fierce Fallon. There is no way!! She will complete her promise to Lucy. Only thing that neither of them will realize is this will completely change the course of both their lives. Will they embrace the change or implode on impact?
I loved the chemistry and connection between the main characters. The emotions and feels that occurred in this story was amazing. I liked how Zach became so swoon worthy. Went from jerk to hero. Fallon had some moments were I wondered if she could have it all. She was one who was a complex woman and the twist of her character was good to see. Just loved reading how everything happens with her. The banter was hot and electric. Overall, another fantastic read by Ms. Flynn.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *****
I just read my favorite book by this author!!! I just love a total butthole with a soft center and a fearless woman who takes him on! A story with intense sexual tension, a great family of crazy characters, the best friends a girl could have and a budding bromance.
Fallon is a nurse. She’s no girly girl. She’s no nonsense and low maintenance. She’s a take no crap caregiver with a big and generous heart. Always doing for others but never asking for help. She comes from a great family and the girl has sound morals. She may come off as a bitch to some, but that’s just by people who are intimated by a strong, independent woman who doesn’t hold back and speaks her mind.
Zach is the bad boy of hockey. He likes his puck bunnies because they just come and then GO. He’s the guy that everyone loves to hate. He’s brought alot of that on himself, but he also has his reasons and he’s not sharing them.
Zach and Fallon butt heads immediately when she is asked to help him out. You just want to stand by and watch because you know when they reach their breaking point, it’s going to be explosive! But they come to an agreement that’s mutually beneficial and should bring them both satisfaction. Things are going to get heated!
An entertaining story with characters you will love. I definitely want more of the guys from the hockey team. Zach was so much more than his media persona. A reminder that people aren’t always what they seem and family isn’t always blood related. Everyone has a story and it shapes who they become and the choices they make. A recommended read that will put a smile on your face!
Adorable laugh out loud sexy read. I love the Tomboy. This is my favorite book in the The Hartigans series so far. Fallon is an amazing nurse, she tells you how it is and not at all a girly girl. I love her so much. Now Zach he has his issues. But you will love every side of him. He’s caring, not too trusting, he will come off as brash but don’t let that fool you. The banter between Zach and Fallon will keep you on your toes and glued to the pages. I love how the hatred between the two of them grows into a friendship to more as they get to really know each other. It’s amazing to see Zach finally give in and be more in with his teammates because yes he comes off as a loner. You will see why once you read this one. I’m #Zuck all the way. Find out what that means by reading Tomboy. I couldn’t put this one down and I think you need to pick this one up.
Tomboy is book three in The Hartigans series by Avery Flynn. While I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, I now have a favorite. I loved this book. If you are wondering, yes, you can read this as a stand alone. Each book in the series is based on one of the siblings in this crazy, loveable, Hartigan family. The characters do recur in each book, though. So you wouldn’t have the emotional connection to the other characters if you haven’t read the previous books!
Fallon Hartigan is an ER nurse but her heart is really at the clinic where she volunteers her time. Time off is a valuable thing and Fallon is not thrilled when her friend, Lucy, calls in a favor and wants her to spend her free weekend caring for a very sick defenseman for the Ice Knights Hockey Team.
Zach Blackburn is currently the most hated man in the Harbor City area. He just can’t seem to get his game back on track and because of him, the team is losing. Zach is known for his surly attitude and his way of keeping everyone at a distance. He is currently feeling like he’s about to die but the last thing he wants is some do-gooder nurse in his house. But he doesn’t seem to have a choice and she pushes herself right into his personal space and into his life.
After the weekend that Fallon cared for Zach, something amazing happened, he played the best he’s played in a long time. It had to be Fallon. She must be his Lady Luck. Now all he has to do is find a way to convince her to come to his games so he can keep playing well.
“There was something about Zach, hidden under all those layers of attitude and defensiveness, she recognized some place deep in herself.”
After working out a trade, Fallon attending games and Zach volunteering for the clinic, they begin to get to know each other. There is chemistry through the roof. Fallon also realizes that this tough guy really has a soft underside. Maybe if Fallon gives in to this thing between them just for one night, she can get him out of her system?
“They were on the edge of something here, and she wasn’t sure if she was ready.”
Zach has a secret he has kept hidden from everyone. Something that he is embarrassed about. He only told those that had to know. As he and Fallon grow closer, though, he begins to trust her. Can he share his secret with her or would she judge him, think less of him?
“Being with Zach just felt right, they felt right together.”
I loved this book. Zach was the best growly, moody hero that had a huge heart he kept hidden. I loved the way he was with Fallon as he slowly softened towards her. Fallon has a huge heart and wants to fix everyone. Her feelings for Zach are growing so fast but she can’t stand seeing him hurting.
These two were so amazing together. I am so in love with this family. This book really surprised me. I feel like it’s so different than the first two. I got all the butterflies and swoons I could handle with Zach. I am so excited about the announcement of a new series Avery is starting, Ice Nights. And the first book is going to be called Parental Guidance and will feature Caleb Stuckey, Zach’s friend and team mate. I can’t wait!
Loved, Loved, Loved!! All the yumminess that is Zack Blackburn makes this a great read. Add in the banter, humor, and the amazing character of Fallon and you have a story you won’t soon forget! Originally Fallon is just doing a favor for a friend by helping Zack get healthy again. Then she finds herself caught up in a fan frenzy as Harbor City dubs her Zack’s Lady Luck!
All the characters in this series are fun with lots of sass and snark. They feel like people you want to call friends. Each of these books has interconnected characters but each can easily be read standalone. I definitely recommend this one. It’s a must read.
What a wonderful read! This laugh-out-loud, melt-your-heart and steam-up-your kindle romance was simply delightful. I absolutely loved Fallon and Zach. Their banter was witty, charming, fun and hilarious and their chemistry sizzled. Plenty of drama, powerful emotions and sparks make sure your interest never wanders. I’m pleased to say that this was an excellent addition to this series and an all around terrific romantic comedy.
I am truly enjoying The Hartigans series by Avery Flynn. In Tomboy we get Fallon’s story and continue to see and love the Hartigan family and those close to them! Though this is a part of a series, you can read each book as a standalone, as each book is about a different couple. I have, however, truly enjoyed all the books in the series and highly recommend reading them.
When Lucy, one of her best friends, calls in a favor, Fallon is not happy The favor? Take care of one sick Zach Blackburn, the defenseman for the Ice Knights, who is currently not playing very well. And not very well liked because of it. Begrudgingly, Fallon steps in to help, but then she finds herself his lucky charm and now she cannot get rid of him, but does she really want that?
Now Fallon is attending his games and Zach is volunteering at her clinic. As they spend time together, they get to know each other. She begins to see a very different side of Zach. Fallon was strong and determined, but also very caring. Zach was moody and kept people from getting to close. And neither could deny the chemistry they shared!
I enjoyed reading Tomboy by Avery Flynn. I loved Fallon and Zach so much, their story and the family and friends featured in this series. This was just such a sweet story and I loved getting lost in it.
