Cameron is just like one of the guys to everyone except Jake, her brother’s best friend. When she discovers him using her room to hook up with a girl, the sparks fly between them.
This was a great teenage romance! I loved Cam. I saw a lot of younger me in her. I was a tomboy. And this author got the whole vibe and feelings of a tomboy perfect. Maybe she was one too growing up. I just felt like younger me would totally have related. Except I don’t have a twin and I definitely didn’t fall for my twin’s hot best friend. Jake is ultimate book boyfriend material. He’s flawed, but sweet. He’s patient, but also has his limits. I loved following their story and I was glad it continued on. I won’t give you the details of how they go from friendship to more. It’s worth the shock. I do love a story with an oblivious person not realizing how the other sees them. I think we all can relate. Another great narration by Sarah Sampino. If you want a narrator who understands young adult characters, especially girls, she is your voice. I’m becoming a quick fan. This book was great all around and I really enjoyed it. I highly recommend to older young adult fans and up.

Growing up with your twin brother and always being surrounded by boys is Cameron’s life. At 17, she never had butterflies in her stomach or was otherwise interested in guys in any way other than beating them at sports.
When Jake, her brother’s friend, shows her that he sees her differently, she is irritated. His statement also makes her see him differently and that makes for awkward moments. She finds herself missing Jake when he no longer visits her brother. And then she finds out to her shock that she sees him differently too.
This book takes you on a journey from a young girl to an adult woman and the hormones appropriate to puberty.
Easy to read story

3.5 stars – I have mixed feelings about this story. It was well written, but too slow with too much repetition of the same activities with the same people and similar conversations. I found myself skipping paragraphs and even pages at one point because the story had too much filler that did not really serve a purpose other than to make the story longer. I liked the main female character, Cam, and her outlook on life. I have known people who were late bloomers and her actions and statements were quite realistic. This story would have been 5 star if about a third of it was edited out.

Tomboy by Suzana Thompson was a well written and very enjoyable story about Cameron and her brother’s best friend Jake. Cameron has always been just one of the guys with her circle of guys friends. No one sees her as a girl or so she thinks. Jake is her twin brother, Connor’s best friend and he wanted Cam for a long time. As Cam gets older she begins to see Jake as more just Connor’s buddy and she struggles with her growing feelings. This story has it all-drama, jealousy, betrayal and of course a few steamy scenes. 5 stars.

This is a realistic story about a young girl , always the tomboy , discovering the feels of first love and all the emotions that come with it. The author shows the embarrassing moments of adolescents and finding their footing as a young adult. It’s a heartfelt story and for many/most , a true one.

Suzana Thompson does an excellent job of capturing the coming of age emotions in Tomboy. Cam has always one of the guys but little does she know her twin brother’s best friend, Jake, has more than friendly feelings for her. Sparks fly when she catches Jake in a compromising position in her room. As a tomboy, romance and all the trappings of being a girl have never appealed to Cam. Her parents’ divorce and her absent father color her reaction to relationships but her mother is still hopeful for a lifelong love. While Jake has been waiting his entire life for Cam to be on the same page, the young man is what all mature book boyfriends should aspire to be: patient, romantic, possessive, loving, and passionate. While the road is sometimes rocky on the way to their relationship, Cam and Jake’s story ends in a very satisfying way.
Ms. Thompson capture’s Cam’s tomboy traits well, I grew up as one so I could relate to her character, and being blindsided by a friend who has romantic feeling? She hit that shocker dead on, as well as the drama of the high school friends and the catty girls who try to break up couples. Ms. Thompson’s characters are realistic, the situations real life and the story well paced. There are great family moments with the mom, great banter between the siblings, and with the couple. I’d definitely read more by this author.

Tomboy
By: Suzana Thompson

Cameron is a tomboy, like sports and most of her friends are boys. When her twin brother’s best friend Jake is caught in her bedroom with another girl, she becomes annoyed, but is it because he was in her bed? Or is it because it wasn’t her? This is sweet story of growing up, self realization and figuring out who you really are. I enjoyed Cam as she matured and realized what life would have in store for her. Her journey is one that I found easily relatable, and I fell back into that time of insecurity as a teen. With his family life and his mature outlook, Jake is more complex than I expected. Together, we get a little teenage angst and enjoy watching their relationship grow as they get older. Breakout character is Kyle, Cam’s best friend. What a great personality he brings in!
Sarah Sampino’s performance of Tomboy is wonderful. I love her voice. She easily modeled her characters with that teen angst using voices that were a good fit for the age of Cam and Jake. I like her pace and style of narration, giving my ears hours of enjoyment.
