A dare to change a lifetime …
Miss Ruth Stone, a wealthy heiress, is struggling to fulfil her father’s dream to marry into nobility, despite her hefty dowry. Dared by the Peculiar Ladies to “Say something outrageous to a handsome man,” Ruth outdoes herself and proposes marriage to the heir to an earldom.
A decision she may live to regret…
Before she can think better of having opened her big mouth, her gorgeous, hulking husband-to-be has hustled her into a carriage and borne her off to his remote, tumbledown castle where he intends to put her dowry to good use.
A marriage or a business affair…
Ruth has no illusions. She’s a strong, sensible woman, not a fragile beauty and she knows her husband will never fall madly in love. Their marriage is one of convenience, her children will inherit title and legitimacy among the ton and she will have the home of her own she’s dreamed of. Yet her pig-headed, obstinate husband rouses her temper and her passions like no one before.
Her first winter at Wildsyde is about to set the old castle alight.

I loved this story! As usual Ms. Leech has turned out another winner! This story about Ruth and Gordy is packed with romance, humor and yes some sex, but not to be overpowering. I knew Scotsmen are a stubborn lot and grudge holders, and this story shows one example. But all in all things have a way of smoothing out. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks Emma!
totally enjoyed authors style
Very original and very good!
Ms. Stone is a capable Lady – who manages her home and life excellently.
So, why does she make an emotional ridden decision to propose marriage to an unknown highlander ?
Ruth meets her match in Gordon – who is embittered by his family’s abandonment.
Ruth has to melt his heart in every way – physically and emotionally.
The way they learn about each other make for an interesting story , interspersed with advice from her aunt – who is rather witty and observant.
Romance Level : 4/5
Steamy Level : 4/5
String female character, beautiful harsh Scotland
A+! I only wish that I could be as composed and eloquent (and sarcastic) as Ruth. Thank you for another lovely installment in this compelling series.
I really enjoyed Ruth and Gordy. They had a rather rocky beginning. Ruth was not a romantic. She had no illusions and a lot of determination. Gordy had secrets. He had vulnerabilities he was not about to share. I have gone on to read more of the “girls who dare” books. What fun!
This was such a fun read. I didn’t expect that Ruth’s ‘dare’ would lead her to such an outrageous action. She is tenacious and the rewards of her not giving up is worth waiting for. To really appreciate this book, I’d suggest reading the whole series in order. It gives much more meaning and understanding to each novel in turn. Each of ‘girls who dare’ are unexpectedly brave and well rewarded.
Good story but toooo much sex.
Loved this book entertaining without being reading porn. A sweet entertaining book.
Emma Leech is a consistently good romance writer. Enjoying this series.
Great story. Good morals. G-rated and yet very interesting and inspiring.
The female character was wonderful in this book. She knew what and who she wAnted in a time when women had no choices. The descriptions of the male character were magnetic and so powerful. Thoroughly enjoyed,
I liked the strong woman character!
i love how each characters has its own color which makes the story unpredictable .
After finishing this Book 7, I have come to the realization that this is my favorite series I have ever read. The Peculiar Ladies really are but they are all such wonderful personalities.
Ruth is disgustingly rich but her father earned his wealth in trade. She wants to marry, have a home and belong but so far hasn’t found anyone that interests her or that cares for her outside of her large dowry. Ruth has some personal doubts about herself but she is as strong as goat’s breath about everything else. When Gordon Anderson appears in her life, she instantly knows that he is the one the moment she sees his knees. Gordy next heir to the Earl of Morven title after his uncle’s death, needs to marry money to bring his castle & land out of complete ruination after his father’s last act was revenge on his bastard son who would inherit it. Gordy also knows he will never allow himself to love after his mother walked out on him when he was seven and never returned & then his two sisters left, married and promised to come back & get but they never did. When Ruth proposes just minutes after meeting him is shocking but her 50,000 pound dowry is convincing.
After ironing out the marriage agreement with her father and ironing out rules, expectations and what was expected of the other, they are off to Gordy’s castle in Scotland. The adventures, hilarious moments & the growing together of two insecure people was so entertaining. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
I’ve been enjoying the “Girls Who Dare” series and enjoyed this latest story as much as the first 6 books.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Couldn’t put it down.
Loved it! I wasn’t really sure how Emma would pull this one together, as the other stories centered around our characters lives in London and this one is Ruth’s story in the Highlands. However, Emma waved her magic pen and it was amazing! I loved every page!
Great Read!
Ruth and Gordy’s story is my favorite of the series so far. It was funny, sweet, and moving, with a touch of angst that wasn’t overdramatic. I am still adjusting to the lengthy side stories in this series. Once, after switching from a supporting character’s POV, I almost forgot where Ruth and Gordy left off. Theirs is such a good story. I wish there was more of it.
