This book is one of those books that once started one has to keep reading until the end.
It’s well written no mistakes but then this author doesn’t make any mistakes grammatically
or historically.
The story is about a third son who is forced to return to England as his father a Duke is dying
and he has become the heir.He brings part of his family home with him.Not everyone is pleased to see
him or his children.I am not going to say anymore as I hate it when reviewers spoil the story by saying too much
My last comment would that this author is an excellent story teller and this book deserves all the plaudits it will receive.

London 1812
“One Viscount. Young, healthy, and well travelled. Rich and titled. Available to any bride prepared to overlook foreign blood for the chance of one day being Duchess of Winshire.” Yes that summed up how James thought his season in London would go. His father wanted him to find a suitable wife.
The moment he met Lady Sophia Belvoir, he could not take his gaze off of her. “He was drowning in a pair of brown-grey eyes, like a pond in the deep shelter of a nurturing forest. Did she feel it to? The greeks said that true lovers had one soul, split at birth and placed in two bodies.”
Jude Knight never ceases to make my heart fill with her amazing prose and creative historical storylines. The first book in this series was enthralling and so was James and Sophia’s tale. It was like watching a play unfolding. Sophia in her mind was a spinster at five and twenty, while her beautiful sister Felicity was the focus of every young man. How could she possibly be attractive to James?
Their journey is not always easy but I fell in love with these two and could only turn the pages quickly to see how this perfect story ended! What to do now? Oh yes, anxiously await Jude’s next addition to this fascinating series!
Charming and unusual.
That’s what I liked.
Janes is a viscount, the grandson of a duke. His father, also James had his own story. In a nutshell, James is half Iranian but his grandfather wants him to wed a proper English lady.
Sophia is way to used to being overlooked for her sister Felicity. She’s had two failed engagements and is firmly on the shelf.
I enjoyed this book and can recommend it.
Ms. Knight certainly knows how to draw you into a story and make you care for the characters. This was a really good romance with a little bit of mystery to it. The names and titles are confusing for us Yanks but eventually you get used to it. I loved the main characters of James and Sophia. They were perfect for each other even though it took a while for them to fully realize that. All in all, a really good read.

James Winderfield, Lord Elfingham, (Viscount Elfingham, heir to the Earl of Sutton, who was heir to the Duke of Winshire, his grandfather) must marry a proper lady at his dying grandfather’s request. He arrives back in England and, rescuing a child from being run over by racing carriages, meets Lady Sophia Belvoir visiting the orphans’ charity, knowing that she is the one he wants to marry, despite her being “on the shelf” at the age of 25! Sophia is very attracted to him, but she knows he could not possibly consider her, especially with her beautiful younger sister, Felicity, available to him.
When James’ legitimacy is falsely questioned by the Duke of Haverford, who is feuding with his family and hoping to have James shunned by Society as a rightful heir, it threatens to throw another stumbling block in their path to happiness. Will they allow this interference to keep them apart? Or will their love find a way to join the wonderful couple who deserve to be together?
This book was a little difficult at first in keeping track of all the characters, but the main family was hilarious with their plans and schemes. James’ father was so irreverent and delightfully outspoken that I couldn’t stop chuckling. And the family’s scheming for how to present themselves at the ball for best effect was delightful! They sent one of the younger of James’ brothers to escort one of the ladies, keeping James away from the ball completely in order to stir up interest in the unmarried ladies. The idea was that if the younger was so handsome, that implied James, the heir, was most likely even more handsome! Grab your copy and enjoy this fun book to see how everything finally works out.
I loved this charming romance between James, Lord Elfingham and Lady Sophia Belvoir. James is one of ten children born to his English Lord father and Persian princess mother. After the death of his mother, James and his brother and two sisters return to London where his grandfather the Duke is nearing death. The old Duke rejects the half breed heir unless he can wed a proper English wife. When by chance, while riding into town he rescues an orphan and meets Sophia who does charity work at the orphanage. He knows right away that she is the one he will wed. Now if only he can win her heart and her brother’s blessing?

Loved the chemistry between them.
What a beautifully written and sweet love story. Sophia is the sister everyone overlooks with everyone seeming to look at her sister, not her, yet when she meets James things seem different. There are some bumps in the road for these two. I really like the characters in this one the main characters and the secondary ones were so splendid. This is a great book to curl up with. I highly recommend this gem. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Great story with James and Sophia who meet and are attracted to each other but she is not sure if he is really attracted to her as she is usually second to her sister. James knows he has met the one for him with Sophia if she would just open up and accept his love. Wonderful sweet romance.
I really enjoyed reading this. The characters and their storyline was great. I can’t wait to read what Knight comes up with next!

Is he or isn’t he? That’s the question being debated about James Winderfield, Lord Elfingham. Is he the legitimate heir to the Earl of Sutton? James knows he is and is unconcerned; well, mostly unconcerned because when it comes to a certain lady with blue-gray eyes.
Dreams of a golden horse and the magnificent prince riding to her rescue have haunted Lady Sophia Belvoir for months. Aggravating since she knows she would never stand a chance once he has met her beautiful sister.
Will the question of James’ birth, an overly aggravating brother and a lack of confidence keep these two apart?
As always, Ms. Knight has another hit! She had me laughing at some of James’ antics and wanting to shake confidence into Sophia. Add an appearance by the Merry Marquis, well that’s just the cherry on top of an excellent must read story!! Now waiting for patiently {snort} waiting for book 2.
Beautiful, sweet love story but not without a few conflicts and misunderstandings.
James’s father is the third son of a duke, so when he and Eleanor fell in love, her father wanted her to marry a future Duke and conspired to separate them, by kidnapping James and telling her he was dead. He went on to the orient, married a Persian princess, and had ten children. Due to unfortunate circumstances his two older brothers are now dead and is now the future Duke, and James is his heir. James’s grandfather is on death’s door and requires he marry a proper English lady before he dies. Within days of being in England he meets Sophia, a lady who although twice betrothed, is considered on the shelf at twenty-five. But James is smitten with her beauty, grace, and kindness, and won’t marry anyone but her. She is captivated by him also, but they have so many hurdles to overcome. Many peers, especially the Duke of Haverford, the husband of the woman his father loved, are claiming his father was never married and James is illegitimate. And the Duke has many followers, namely Sophia’s brother. James and Sophia were such delightful individuals, I loved them and the family and friends who supported them. Paradise Regained continues many years later, but now the setting is England. James, the hero I the novella is back in England. His father, the Duke is dying and James is the heir. His oldest son, also James and some of the younger children accompany him. The younger James, now Discount Elfingham, is not without some controversy. His uncle wants him to marry a good English miss, maybe one of his cousins. His father’s nemesis, the Duke of Haverford, claims he (the older James) never married his children’s mother, making them all illegitimate, I clicking the younger James. From the first moment he saw Lady Sophia Belvoir, James was smitten. Unfortunately, her brother was in firmly under Haverford’s influence. How will James get to talk to Sophia? How can he convince it is she and not her sister who attracts him. After scheming to gain entry to the Christmas house party at the Haverford’s country estate, will be be allowed to stay. In spite of the not too nice comments of other house guests, will he be able to spend some time with Sophia?
As a fan of Jude Knight, I greatly enjoyed this read. It had wonderful, likeable characters, some not so likeable, a conundrum or two, and a romance that is up in the air for a good part of the story. Although this tale takes place a year or so earlier than the setting in Frost and Fire, it was nice to see the background of some of those characters. One of the best things is that Jude Knight and the other Bluestocking Belles prove a good clean story can hold a reader’s attention. Looking forward to the next one in the series. James, Lord Elfingham returns to England along with his father the Earl of Sutton as his grandfather is dying. But James & his nine, yes nine siblings are seen as half castes & illegitimate by society so
James must marry to please his grandfather, the duke, and to win social acceptance for himself and his siblings. Only Lady Sophia Belvoir makes his heart sing. Sophia keeps secret her tendre for James, Lord Elfingham. After all, the whole of Society knows he is pursuing the younger Belvoir sister, not the older one left on the shelf after two failed betrothals.
A very well written story with wonderful characters. The pace is very good & drew me in from start to finish. I loved both James & Sophia, although they fell hard & fast for each other at first sight it then took some time for them to realise their feelings were reciprocated. The secondary characters also had depth, we met some new & some from other books, there’s one character whose story I’m impatiently waiting for! An engrossing, captivating read, which I didn’t want to end
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I’ve read several books written by Jude Knight; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

Loved the fact that a foreign family from Persia were in line to be an English Duke. The Earl James and Lady Sophia were fated mates from first sight, but her brother and others kept telling her that she was plain and no one would be interested in her. It was hard for her to accept Loed James. After finally listening to her heart she did as she wanted.

I simply LOVED this book! My only complaint was all the characters (10 children?!!!) and the similar names, it took me a bit to recall who was who. But the story itself was brilliant and I found myself reading long after bedtime. I”m usually not a big fan of love at first sight stories but the way the author set it up made it much more believable. Who wouldn’t be captivated by a tall, dark and kind Lord that risks his life to save a child?
.
I really liked this skillfully crafted story. New to English society, James is confronted by prejudice and mistrust as he looks for a suitable bride with the hope of a love match. Suspense is added by the dealings of the Duke of Haverford, who has taken upon himself to cause trouble for the Winderfield family, not just in encouraging his sycophants to cut the family, but he also raises doubts regarding the Winderfield children’s legitimacy.
As can be expected in this genre there is a happy end. The journey there was very interesting and entertaining. Now to wait for the next installment.
I read an advance copy and voluntarily post my opinion.
