Roger Egerton, the most wanted Duke in London, was terribly saddened by the loss of his dear parents. Hopefully, his sister’s more romantic and idealistic view of the world dragged him out of his misery. He longed to achieve his own happiness too, but finding a perfect match for his sister, Selina, must come first. While everything seems to go as planned, there is something devilish behind the … scenes, ready to destroy their happy reverie. How cruel can fate be to a man who already experienced loss in the most brutal way?

But when Selina goes missing, she has no other option than to work along with the Duke to find her. Will she be able to hide her sizzling desire for him? Or will she blow everything up?
The Duke found himself in a battle he could not face alone. But when she gets butterflies in her stomach every time he’s around, will she be able to behave herself, and help him solve the mystery? He will need all of his strength to navigate through this situation, and true love would definitely have to wait for the right and proper time. But what if the Duke feels the same temptation when she’s around, and he can’t wait anymore? Will he risk it all for love?

*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
The good storyline and wonderful characters made this book a very enjoyable and entertaining read! I always enjoy reading what this author writes!
Let me preface this review by saying I have read six of Lucy Langton’s books. Some of her books were excellent, others were okay and some were disappointing. Because of this knowing that sometimes I really enjoy her work I continue to look forward to her new books.
MY IMPRESSIONS:
I find the actions of the characters stiff without bend sprouting off rehearsed lines like in a play. There are no deep emotions or drama. Just sickly-sweet attitudes. Too sweet, a little unrealistic. The main characters recently lost their beloved parents and yet I get the impression they are emotionally denying that it happened so they can go on their merry way without being emotionally encumbered by it. The dialogue drones on and on. I am not sure I want to finish this book and I am 9% into the story. It is like they live in a bubble romanticizing love and life without adding in the other aspects of life. Unrealistic. The book keeps calling the main male character “the Duke” but the Duke of what? What is his title? Where is their estate? I am still reading and have not a clue. Okay… now the Duke, his sister and her best friend go to a ball and the sister disappears. No trace of her at all. The Duke did not react like a normal person. He went home to sleep when he could not find her. Most people would have made a big to do about it and gotten the authorities involved. I don’t know how to explain the Duke’s unrealistic reaction to a missing person. There was no great worry or distress. After four days checking in with the police there had been no new news. I am surprised he did not hire his own investigator to look into the matter. Seems idiotic to me. Moving forward, weeks had passed and the inspector told him that this was an unsolved case, a dead-end case. It is beyond my comprehension that he still has not hired a private investigator to help him find his sister. Unreal. Finally, the best friend searched his sister’s room for any clues and found some letters stashed away that were horrifying to read. Some man with the initials L.C. has been writing her and each new letter sounding more desperate than the last that she should be his wife or there would be consequences. Finally, a staff member steered the Duke to a private investigator. OMG why did it take him over a month to do this? One day the inspector comes to see the Duke with some information regarding the abductor. He is under surveillance. The inspector gives the Duke some do’s and don’ts common sense things and the Duke sits there like he never ever thought that way before. Where did the guy come from, so removed from reality in interacting with others? Where does his mind live? In a fantasy world or something? Get this, the Duke had to look up the definition of “womanizer”. Hello? Now in the middle of this kidnapping, the Duke consoles the best friend and ends up kissing her. They talk and decide to address their feelings for each other after his sister is found. Okay, the Duke knows his sister is being held at the Earl’s home. He does what the inspector told him not to do. He goes to the Earl’s home under the guise of canvassing the neighborhood for information. After a couple of visits a member of the Earl’s staff reveals where his sister is being held. The Duke loses his temper and goes after the Earl to release her or he would get physical. The authorities arrive and haul the Earl away. The Duke, his sister and her best friend are reunited. Now it is strange to me that the sister did not seem affected by the whole ordeal. It made her unhappy but now rescued she behaved as if nothing extraordinary had occurred. I would think that when she was first abducted fear and confusion would have been a normal response. Then fear and worry would have overtaken her during her captivity thinking now after several weeks her brother may think her dead. I don’t know this is truly a very strange book. The Earl was under the impression that his money would get him out from under the kidnapping charge. The story never ties that loose end up. I never find out what actually happened to the Earl. Was he convicted or did he get away with it? Did he feel resentful towards the Duke sister that she rejected him? Will he be back for revenge? I have no clue and the story does not cover it. Now that the Duke and the best friend can explore their feelings for each other they do. There is a sexual passionate encounter between them but it is not clear if the best friend was satiated. I assume the Duke was but what about her? The rest of the book is like a very long extended epilogue. I don’t mean to be harsh on the book but it was a disappointment and I felt it was a waste of my time.
