The tribes have wilted. The last of the menfolk have grown old. The human race has been dying since the red comet first soared through the skies above. My name is Issa, and as the youngest huntress and the only one left within childbearing age, I’m doomed to be the last matriarch of my people. Which would be a great honor, if there were a male to be mine from another tribe. But none have been … have been born, none but my younger brother. It’s been my life duty to protect him.
When the time comes to escort my brother to a neighboring tribe, my friend tells me a rumor of a huntress finding a dragon in the northern plains. And when that huntress touched the dragon’s hide, the beast transformed into a virile, possessively bonded male.
With a thundering heart and nothing left to lose, I venture into the forbidden jungle to find such a dragon. To touch him, to bear his burden.
But the dragon I find is nothing at all like I imagined…

THE BLURB
Issa’s tribe is dying out; she’s the youngest huntress and the only one left within childbearing age. She’s doomed to be the last of her people, watching them die with no hope. She’s going to be forever alone, as there is no male from another tribe waiting for her. Instead, she’s dedicated her life to protecting her younger brother so that he might give hope to another tribe. Now that he’s of age, its time to deliver him to her friendly neighbouring tribe.
Once she arrives, she hears the stories of another huntress capturing a dragon, turning it into a virile, possessive bonded male. A male that can provide many children. A male that can give her lonely life companionship. With nothing left to lose, Issa ventures into the jungle…
But the dragon she finds is nothing like she imagined.
TONE OF THE BOOK
To Touch A Dragon is designed to be a lighthearted novel. There are a few tension moments between the characters, but due to the shorter length no drama is dragged on unnecessarily.
SENSITIVE TOPICS
To Touch A Dragon is aimed at mature readers. There are a number of sex scenes that aren’t not suitable for an immature audience.
SERIES SYNOPSIS
To Touch A Dragon is a standalone novel in the multi-author Venys Needs Men series. Other authors to contribute to the series are Naomi Lucas, Tiffany Roberts, and Poppy Rhys. You can see all the books contributed on the series Goodreads page. Naomi has contributed three novels towards the series.
Each book in the Venys Needs men series are considered standalone. I would however recommend reading To Touch A Dragon before To Mate A Dragon, both written by Naomi Lucas. The events happen somewhat at the same time chronologically, however characters from To Touch A Dragon appear and are mentioned in To Mate A Dragon.
Each novel focuses on a different couple. Furthermore, all novels and their romantic stories end with a happily ever after.
To Touch A Dragon is only 166 pages long, making it half the length of a fully featured romance novel. It’s a fast read, designed for a quick and fun adventure.
REVIEW
Naomi Lucas tends to write alpha-style characters who prefer to dominate their females. Having said that, they tend to like stronger-willed females, and they have a very much protective streak about what they consider theirs. It’s a fun balance, and her works do not tend to merge towards the abusive relationships that other authors write.
That being said, Kaos the alpha dragon does have trouble adjusting to his new lifestyle. He blames Issa for his current fate, understandably so, and takes a while to adjust. During this time he is harsh towards her, but Naomi Lucas emphasises the importance of a relationship being open with communication and working as a team.
I’m almost disappointed that To Touch A Dragon is only a short novella and not a full-length romance novel. The world-building is enchanting, and the characters with their mixed flaws would only benefit from a slower burn and a character growth arc.
FINAL WORD
To Touch A Dragon is one novella I’d love to be longer; I want more. The characters are wonderful, and the world invites exploration.
RECOMMENDED BOOKS AND AUTHORS
If you liked To Touch A Dragon, definitely read some of the other books in the Venys Needs Men series. Other authors to contribute to the series are Amanda Milo, Tiffany Roberts, and Poppy Rhys.
If you are a fan of dragon-shifter stories, Ruby Dixon has also written the Fireblood Dragons series. A fun adventure set in a post apocalyptic world that’s been taken over by mad dragons. Only when the dragons meet their soul mates, a human woman, that their madness clears. The first book in this series is Fire In His Blood.
Erin Tate (also writing as Celia Kyle) has also written The Dragons of Preor series. The first book is Jarek(read our review). Shape-shifting dragons have landed on Earth, seeking women as mates. However not everyone are happy at the new alliance between Earth and Preor…
This is a story about a fierce female warrior wanting to find a mate just for her when the odds are almost nonexistent. With the decline of males in every tribe, Isaa is spurred to action when she hears of another female in a northern tribe who touched a dragon and that dragon became her mate. What does Issa have to lose? She finds and touches her dragon but they have to get through many emotions and sometimes deadly adventures before love becomes theirs.
Fewer men are born in the land of Venys as a result there are less people and even less the males. Issa is a huntress, her only duty in life is to take care of her younger brother who has far more important purpose in life, creating more children. Issa knew her life is doomed, never to have a partner or bear a child, she mourns for there are no males in her tribe and the only males that are left they are old. When she hears of a rumour of dragon turning to human hope blooms for the chance that she craves. She sets on a journey naively hoping for the best.
Kaos is an Alpha dragon who wakes up from slumber after years hearing the mating call of a femdragon. But a change in fate decides for Kaos which has him in rage.
Kaos and Issa’s relationship was full of hatred (on Kaos part), angstful and passionate. I loved every moment of the pages. Kaos was angry and dangerous towards Issa for the life that was stolen from him. But he is protective and caring for her too. Issa is sad for the hurt she cause Kaos but cannot regret what she did. I like the story plot set in medieval period. I’m excited for her next book. My only complain is that the story is short.
