A romantic story where the characters don’t want a relationship but need each other without realizing it. Cheyenne is dealing with health issues and feels a service dog is the answer. That is where Cooper comes in. Both have issues from their past but that’s what makes them perfect for each other. I love that all the secondary characters don’t overtake the storyline but actually complement it. Overall I enjoyed it. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from Tule Publishing.
Cheyenne and Cooper’s love story in To Tame a Texas Cowboy by Julie Benson, book three in her Wishing, Texas series is emotional and enjoyable. Cheyenne Whitten was forced to return home to Wishing, Texas after a medical condition forced her to leave barrel racing and the rodeo circuit. But being home with her over-protective mother is stressing her out. Needing to move out and regain her independence, Cheyenne decides getting a service dog is her answer; but the waiting list could take up to five years. Cooper Abbott lose his fiancée two years ago and all he wants now is to rebuild his life and run his veterinarian clinic; living a calm, stable life. When Cheyenne learns that Cooper might be able to help her, she rushes off to find him. Cooper is gobsmacked by this gorgeous, spirited, redhead and is unable to refuse her. As it happens, Cooper had just picked up a shelter dog to test for trainability, Penny Lane, who attached herself to Cheyenne and responded to her cues. Cooper not only offers to help Cheyenne, but gives her a place to live, away from her mom, and a job. Of course, both insist that neither want a relationship as Cheyenne is focused on her health and returning to the rodeo and Cooper’s heart is still healing. However, the chemistry between them isn’t listening, as it is off the charts, pulling them together. Or maybe that’s the magnetism between them. It seems they are perfect for each other, fulfilling the other’s needs. Of course the magical wishing well in Wishing, Texas could have played a part in this love story.
Ms. Benson wrote a wonderful and emotional story that is definitely not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing character giving Cheyenne and Cooper a chance to find loved and a future together. I highly recommend To Tame a Texas Cowboy to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
To Tame a Texas Cowboy is the third book in the Wishing, Texas Series as well as the third book by Julie Benson that I have read. This is a series that continues to get better. These characters are down to earth people who have had some bad knock in life. Now they dig deep to find the resilience to change but also keep their dreams moving forward. Not sure about the title since the story has an animal vet and a competitive barrel racer cowgirl as the main characters.
Recovery, rebuilding and staying true to her goals is Cheyenne Whitten focus. A service dog is part of the plan which is how she meets Cooper. Cooper is coasting in life so the shakeup she brings is needed for him. I appreciate that they have it work at it. I also appreciated the dog, not considered by some as useful for the job but Penny proves, she is indeed. What a great point the author makes. The right one makes all the difference in the world.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

To Tame a Texas Cowboy is book number three in the Wishing, Texas series by Julie Benson. This is Cheyenne Whitten and Cooper Abbott’s story.
Cheyenne and Cooper team up together and agree on a business deal that will benefit both of them. Cooper is working on a SeizureReader and Cheyenne is suffering from seizures due to a benign brain tumor. As they work their feelings change but will the obstacles prevent them from finding true happiness?
An emotional read that covers so many different struggles from medical issues to family issues.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I received this arc in exchange for an honest review. This is the 3rd book in the series and the first I have read. The author did a good job giving enough of the back story for me to not feel lost. Books 1 and 2 were about AJ and Grace and Ty and Cassie. This story is about Cooper and Cheyenne. Cooper is a veterinarian and college buddy of AJ and Ty. He moves to the small town of Wishing, Texas where his 2 friends are, and opens his own vet practice. We learn that Cooper’s fiancée passed away 2 years ago during brain surgery for tumors caused by seizures. He is also working on the tool, SeizureReader he promised her to finish.
Cheyenne has moved back to Wishing because she has a brain tumor that is causing her to have seizures. She is a barrel racer, traveling from rodeo to rodeo and she is unable to do that now. She is living with her mother and younger sister. Her mother’s worries about her are driving her crazy. Cheyenne’s best friend Aubrey suggests she meet with Cooper because he has contacts with service dogs that could help with seizures. Cooper has taken in a foster dog, Penny, and she looks to have skills in being a service dog. Cheyenne and Aubrey show up at Coopers and Penny acts strangely. Then Cheyenne has a seizure there and they realize Penny has skills that could help her. Cooper suggests she moves in so Penny can help her. He also offers her a job in his new vet clinic as the office manager. She ends up accepting and they work together. She takes to the job well. Her past issues have been feeling ashamed for not graduating but getting a GED instead and only being qualified to barrel race and waitress. She hears people are saying nice things about her in the job and she is happy. Both Cooper and Cheyenne realize they have a lot of chemistry and they add a lovemaking aspect to their relationship.
This story has a lot of great relationships. There are the family ones between Cheyenne, her mom and sister; Cooper and his estranged dad and mom and siblings Aubrey and AJ. There is the relationship between Cheyenne and Cooper. Initially, they are strangers, then roommates and boss and employee and then they enter a loving relationship.
There is some angst in this story too. Cheyenne looks for the answer to her surgery question. She also realizes her love for Cooper and is torn about staying in town or being a barrel racer. Then she and Cooper have some bumps in the road.
I really liked this book a lot and gave it 5 stars. I will definitely read other books by Julie Benson. I liked all the characters, the small town setting and the romance between Cooper and Cheyenne.
While this is the third book in the series and I hadn’t read the first two I had no problem following the story as it was a total stand alone with just cross over characters whose past was explained enough to fill in any gaps
Cooper Abbott has moved to Wishing Texas where his two college room mates live to start over Not only is he opening a new veterinary practice but he is also trying to get over the loss of his fiancee two years earlier She died in the operating table after surgery for a brain tumour that was causing seizure He is also working on completing and releasing a seizure reading app that he promised to his fiancee. Cheyenne Whitten has also returned to Wishing after an accident in her barrel racing career a accident that is also causing her to have seizures she is hoping a service dog that lets her know a seizure is imminent will be the answer what she doesn’t expect is that the wait for a service dog would be so long. She goes to talk about the chances and abilities of a dog to the new vet what she doesn’t expect is that there would be an attraction between them or that he has some how managed to collect a service dog that failed its training Will they both be the answer that Cheyenne needs.
This is a sweet romance about two people who need each other without knowing they need the other one to complete themselves.
Cheyenne Whitten is suffering from seizures that are not responding to medication and she has had to move back into her mother’s house. The only issue is that Cheyenne feels like she is being smothered by her mother and her overzealous concern about her health. Cheyenne has tried working but the only jobs available to her are waitressing and that didn’t work out too well. But she reads about how a service dog trained to detect seizures has helped many like her be able to live a fairly independent life. She decides that it is something worth looking into and goes to talk to the new vet in town, Cooper Abbott.
Cooper has purchased the vet practice in Wishing and is moving into his new house along with his pet steer. Cooper lost his fiancee a few years prior and has been working on bringing her dream app to life, SeizureReader. This on top of finishing vet school and getting started in his career as a vet. But Cooper has a big heart and seems to acquire the animals no one else wants including a washed out service dog.
But his “washed out” service dog actually isn’t washed but rather has been waiting for the right person. Cheyenne happens to be the person.
Both Cheyenne and Cooper have issues from their past and work on overcoming them and realizing that they are the missing part that the other one needs to be complete.
This is a lovely read and well written. I do plan to re-read this book again. Not something I normally do.
I did receive a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair unbiased review.
To Tame a Texas Cowboy is the third in Julie Benson’s Wishing, Texas series. I am enjoying every visit back to Wishing and Cheyenne and Cooper make the latest visit memorable. I loved the match between rodeo barrel racer and veterinarian. They both have reasons to not get involved but love has a way of changing all those intentions.
I’m very much looking forward to more visits back to Wishing, Texas and can’t wait to see how Julie Benson gets us back there.
Thoroughly enjoyed, neither looking for relationship but they both needed each other to move forward in life. Cheyenne needs to move away from her over protected mother and turns to Cooper for help in finding a service dog for her seizures. Cooper needs help in his new veterinarian clinic, so what’s the perfect situation of Cheyenne moving in and helping at the clinic. Soon they can’t deny the chemistry that they share.
A emotional heart warming story of finding love when you least expect. Loved the characters, both with issues that they both must overcome. Loved Penny, the service dog. This is the third book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. Looking forward to reading the next book. I highly recommend, especially if you are a dog lover.
It took a few chapters to get into this storyline then it took right off,I love dogs ,we have a black lab and we lost out Rex an Australian sheep dog to a stroke a few years back so this was an emotional story for me personally.I highly recommend this book.
Cheyenne was a barrel racer who had to leave her career at least for now because she had a seizure. Her Mom is driving her crazy because she is worried about Cheyenne. She won’t let her do anything or go anywhere because she is worried that she might have one while she is out and might not come home again.
Aubrey, Cheyenne’s best friend, tells her that she should talk to Cooper because he might be able to help her get a service dog. It takes a while to get a service dog and Cheyenne has to go through the proper channels but Cooper needs a favor and they think they could help each other.
A really good story that I think you will enjoy. As a Mom I can sympathize with her Mom, but I also know that Cheyenne has to live her life and enjoy herself. But she needs to also learn how to do it safely.
This was a sweet story. Each of the characters had something the other needed.
Cheyenne Whitten suffered from seizures and she was tired of her mother and sister always watching over her like she was a baby. She needed some freedom. She needed a service dog. When Cheyenne’s best friend suggests they take a road trip to see Cooper Abbott, a veterinarian and has connections to organizations with service dogs, Cheyenne decided it would be worth it.
Cooper was still struggling with the loss of his girlfriend who passed away two years ago. He wanted to keep Olivia’s dream invention, the SeizureReader, alive but he needed someone to test it on. Cheyenne showed up at just the right time. Cooper needed to keep an eye on Cheyenne to make sure everything was working properly, so they moved in together. As they spend time together, they realize how much they liked each other and started a relationship. But, when Cheyenne needs a second opinion on surgery and Cooper refuses to ask his father, who is a brain surgeon, for help, it just might be the end of them. Now it’s up to Cooper to swallow his pride, for the women he loves, and talk to his father.
This book was really good. I liked how the author gave good backgrounds on the main characters and their friends without it getting confusing. Sometimes when I read a book that has a lot of characters, I have trouble keeping them straight. I also learned something about service dogs and how they help people. The story flowed along nicely and kept my interest the entire time.
There are so many great things to find in this book: Terrific characters, a well-developed plot, turmoil, crises, and of course, love. It is an interesting read with the inclusion of a therapy dog who attaches itself to the character who needs her most.
It’s a terrific book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This stand alone in the series, is a touching story.
Cheyenne Whitten’s life has changed dramatically after she has to give up her career as a barrel racer due to developing seizures.
Cooper Abbott, the new veterinarian in town is still not over losing his fiancee due to a brain tumor. But his promise to continue her efforts to help others with seizures is what brings these two together.
Aside from the relationship between Cooper and Cheyenne, it’s a story about family dynamics and support or the lack thereof. Of how our childhood and past, does in fact affect us as adults. But also how love and support of someone that truly loves you and accepts you for whom you are, will help you conquer all obstacles.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I love visiting the fictional town of Wish Texas. Maybe because author Julie Benson gives us so any wonderful true to life details of the Texas landmarks and things like that in this book. It was so much fun read the Texas A&M Aggie lore mixed in the pages of this heart warming book. Cooper a vet, the animal kind, with a with a pet cow and dog moves from College Station to the small town of Wish. He is dealing with not just moving to a new small town but loss as well. Cheyenne was a renowned on the rodeo circuit until an accident and then the reason made her come home. An overprotective mom had me cringing but it is the reason she met Cooper and later Penny Lane. This touch me deeply because i have seizures like Cheyenne and while reading this book it just touched on so many familiar things heath and home wise.
