Lucretia ‘Crecy’ Holbrook has a secret, a secret she has kept for many years. Even her dearest confidant and sister, Belle, would not understand what Crecy is prepared to do, the risks she is prepared to take, to get her heart’s desire. For Crecy is not like the other smiling débutantes; she despises poetry, thinks dancing a chore and is quite prepared to throw something at the next fool to … fool to compare her to Aphrodite.
Far more likely to return from a country walk with a badger’s skull and some bloody, injured creature than a posy of wildflowers, Crecy is drawn to the dark, the damaged, and the unlovable.
Her heart longs for one man alone, one with a wounded soul, one so dreadfully damaged that even her tender care might not be enough to save him.
Viscount Demorte is everything she dreams of.
With a reputation that covers blackmail, murder and madness, cruelly handsome Lord Gabriel Greyston, Viscount Demorte, is far more dangerous than any wounded dog, and his bite … just might leave Crecy ruined beyond repair.

I have read many books in this series and have enjoyed them all very much, but this one is by far my favorite. Gabriel Greyston was not a admirable person in previous books in the series and I was wondering how this villain would ever transform himself into a believable, admirable, and lovable hero. Ms. Leech did a wonderful job of describing his mental compulsive disorder and his struggle to overcome it. Creecy’s ability to love him into healing was so believable! Thank you for such a wonderful read!
After a sweet prologue wherein 12 year old Crecy finds Gabriel and decides to be his friend, the story continues 8 years later during the house party at the Winterbourne estate of book 6. Here the reader learns what Crecy was up to when she went on her long rides. Crecy is determined to have him and no other man, but Gabriel is severely damaged from his childhood. She recognizes his torment and that she must be patient to reach him emotionally. She is quite bold and stubborn, unwilling to give up on him. This was quite a page-turner and had my eyes tearing near the end.
I discovered this author, and series, about a week ago and now I can’t stop reading these books! Once I start one, I don’t want to put it down until I’ve read every last word. If you enjoy historical romances, you must give this series a try!
To Tame a Savage Heart is perhaps one of my favorites so far. Who doesn’t love a tortured hero? I loved that Crecy wasn’t your typical Regency lady, but then DeMorte needed someone a bit unusual. I loved the witty banter, the heated moments, and the sweet way she tried to help the love of her life, even when he didn’t want it.
I liked this storyline very much
Cercy, the main character, is strong and witty. I loved this book from the first. I even laughed out loud several times. She meets Viscount Demorte as a young child, feels sorry for him, and promises to get him a gift every year and write often.
She does this an meets him years later. He is an eccentric person. Hooked me from the get go.
I loved this book. It made me cry at the end.
I’m hooked and will be reading the entire series. 🙂
absolutely loved this story
Wonderful addition to the series. I started the first one and had to purchase the rest, I was hooked.
I could not put this book down! From every minuscule idiosyncrasy, Gabriel is scrutinised by Crecy and she does not find him lacking. A misunderstood character who is finally given his chance to shine and allowed to heal.
This book made me LOVE Emma Leech even more. I just read One Wicked Winter which I adored, so reading Savage Heart was perfectly timed. Crecy & Gabrial have to be my all time favorite couple. I love how Ms. Leech dealt with Gabrials OCD and Crecy’s acceptance of it. Crecy’s love for Gabrial works to win him over over years, not days – so this book is really a true romance. I am dying to get my hands on Persuading Patience!
A testimony of how true love can heal the most broken of souls.
I’ve become a fan of Emma Leech’s writing. I’ve read 3 of her books so far. Each one was a book I enjoyed reading. They were all stories that I read thinking, “I want to keep reading so I know what happens in the end but I don’t want it to come to an end!”
“‘I’ll ruin everything. I’ll do it on purpose.’
As warnings went, it was stark and to the point, and yet he should not have been surprised when she clutched at his lapels and stood on her toes, pressing her mouth to his…”
Good grief this was a good book! It’s not as light as most historical romances I’ve read lately; the hero had some serious problems, which the author didn’t skirt around. But it was such a wonderful story of life-long obsession and loyalty, self-sacrifice, and unconditional love. Crecy is a generally happy girl with a chipper personality who is nevertheless drawn to the dark and morbid. In other words, a heroine after my own heart :). I loved how kind and patient she was with Gabriel. And the ending just slayed me; it was so cute. I know it’s only January, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out to be one of the best romances I read all year. Or maybe ever. Crecy and Gabriel forever!
Wonderful storyline and very entertaining to read.
It was even better than the previous book in this series. The H and h are very complex and somewhat broken characters who end up being what the other needs all through excellent story-tellingl.
It was a love story that was over a period of time, not just a meet and fall in love over a week. It developed the characters and gave a back story of why they acted the way they did.
It’s so interesting to think how people with slight mental issues were perceived in past times, which this book bright to light in a witty, realistic way. Really touched my heart.
I LOVED this book. Great characters, especially the heroine. She never gave up on her man
Loved it!
Not the usual romance book I would read. A 12 year old girl decides she wants to make a friend with a very troubled young man, probably 6 to 8 years older than her. He is rude, surly and not kind. She sends him a letter once a month and a whimsical gift for his birthday every year. We find out he has kept them in an organized file. They finally meet again 8 years later and she sets out to help him, even though he keeps telling her to go away. He is obsessive, compulsive and has mental problems. He reminds me of a Virgo. Slowly she gains his trust. This is a rather dark romance and has some appropriate bedroom scenes without being too graphic. I am glad I read it.
