Elliya’s tribe has only 5 men, forcing the women into polygamous marriages. She’s granted a reprieve from an unwanted marriage when the Red Star appears, signaling she can go on the Crimson Hunt–seek out a dragon as a mate. Dragons are also affected by the Red Star, but to Falthyris, it’s a curse to be fought. But the “Dragonbane” is strong, and when he encounters Elliya, the rut takes over, and he’s unable to resist her–even though he hates her.
To Tame a Dragon is about a human and dragon falling in love despite their lust. There IS a story, and it’s a good one, but there is a lot of sex in this book. If you removed the sex, the book would probably be only half as long. This really belongs more in the erotica category than the romance category.
I really loved it! This book has a couple of stubborn folks who come together like fire and gasoline! Grouchy old dragons and lusty huntresses make sparks fly!
To Tame a Dragon is a book in a compilation series by a number of authors about a dystopian futuristic world where humans are a fading species and dragons roam the wilds. Each book is entirely standalone; they just happen on the same world with a handy map and everything! Some are light and fun reads, while others are serious and dark. This one is closer to the latter, as is common of Tiffany Roberts books.
Elliya is a huntress for a tribe of humans who is about to get forced into a marriage with their only tribe male of age (there are so few males born to humans that every male has MANY wives in an attempt to continue the species) when the red star appears and gives her the tiniest of chances at a different fate. Their legends say that it’s possible to bond with a dragon and have a mate all to herself, so she decides to find one at all costs rather than be another wife. She finds Falthyris and gets a whole basket-load of the unexpected to go with.
Falthyris is an angry, sad dragon who has spent millennia watching the world pass him by only growing angrier and more depressed as time wears on. That red star is a comet that happens to ramp up dragon mating instincts and he has spent every occurrence of it fighting for his sanity. This round, he fails. Unlike Elliya, he knows what mating with her means for him, and is NOT happy. I wouldn’t be either, if someone intentionally made such a huge choice like that about me without knowing the consequences. There was no forcing in this story, before you worry, just a not quite in his right mind dragon and a human who took advantage of that without knowing all the details.
The two of them have a heck of an uphill battle since he hates humans and the fact that one essentially caged him, and she wants to take him back to her village to live with her people. He is not caged; they both are. She can’t force him to come with her, but he CAN force her to stay. It’s a power struggle to be sure. It’s also growth and healing and a new beginning when all is said and done. Though their beginning was not ideal, they find their happiness in the end.
If you like your fantasy with dragons, slightly crazy huntresses, lots of steam, some battles, a good dose of angst, and happily ever after, this is something you should give a go. As usual, the epilogue that Tiffany Roberts puts in their books is the best.
This story is about a strong young female huntress who wants to fulfill her clan’s needs but wants true love to do it. As soon as she sees the blood moon, Eliiya knows this is her chance for true love but she has to claim a dragon. It will be the most difficult task of her life. She claims Falthyris who becomes so angry when he turns into a human form from his powerful dragon. Initially Falthyris breeds Elliya because of the effects of the blood moon. It takes Elliya coming close to death before he understands all she has and will give him.

This is how I would think most dragons would be, arrogant and full of themselves. I’m a little confused about the timing of this story, but that unimportant to the story. I liked the storyline. I think it’s awesome that the females of the village do all the hunting and such. Even though this Dragon is arrogant and extremely unlikable through most of the story, you’ll like him in the end..
My favourite of the series
I really enjoyed this book. Tiffany Roberts is my favourite SFR writer so I saved this book till last and read all the other books in the series first and I’m so glad I did. This was a great book to finish on.
Falthyris is arrogant to the point of destruction, his own and others. When he’s forced to take human form from the touch of a woman and is bound to her, he’s determined not to fall as others of his kind have done before him.
Elliya doesn’t want to be simply bred, especially not by the arrogant man who’s claimed her. So when the comet comes into the sky and a hunt is called to mate one of their warrior women to a dragon, Elliya is determined to be that one.
This was a great story from start to finish. I can’t say more without spoilers, so instead, I recommend you read this for yourself. So good.
Such a fierce dragon!
How does one convince an angry dragon that his reduced stature is, in fact, an improvement? Elliya does not have an easy task ahead. Under the influence of The Red Star, Falthyris simply is not reasonable. It took some time for the randy curmudgeon to realize what a gem he had found. I love this story, and seeing the transformation in their relationship as time passes. I know all relationships have their ups and downs: this one is no exception. Read and enjoy what transpires as they wend their way to a HEA.
