A New York Times Bestseller
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn comes the story of Eloise Bridgerton, in the fifth of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring the charming, powerful Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix.
ELOISE’S STORY
Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he’d proposed, figuring that she’d be homely and … that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he’d proposed, figuring that she’d be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except . . . she wasn’t. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her . . . and more.
Did he think she was mad? Eloise Bridgerton couldn’t marry a man she had never met! But then she started thinking . . . and wondering . . . and before she knew it, she was in a hired carriage in the middle of the night, on her way to meet the man she hoped might be her perfect match. Except . . . he wasn’t. Her perfect husband wouldn’t be so moody and ill-mannered, and while Phillip was certainly handsome, he was a large brute of a man, rough and rugged, and totally unlike the London gentlemen vying for her hand. But when he smiled . . . and when he kissed her . . . the rest of the world simply fell away, and she couldn’t help but wonder . . . could this imperfect man be perfect for her?

Eloise was my favorite sister as I read along and I enjoyed her story so much. I liked that she was a strong heroine who stayed just as she was throughout. I loved the way she endured the kids and how, eventually, their union was established.
A romance that starts with a note, evolves into a year long letter exchange and leads to a “blind” proposal. A wonderful addition to the Bridgerton series complete with Julia Quinn’s staple sense of humor. Loved it!
I love this series about a large, loving family, who have overcome misfortune with love and humor. This is Eloise’s story, as the reader finds out why her fingers have been stained with ink. Eloise had been planing on being a spinster with her BBF, Penelope, until Penelope had gone and married her brother, Colin. Now she was lonely and had taken up correspondence with Sir Philip after the death of his wife, a distant cousin of the Bridgerton’s. After a year of letter writing, Phillip Crane had sort of proposed marriage, by inviting her to come to his home. They both made assumptions, he neglected to tell her that he was looking for a mother for his twin children and she didn’t give him notice that she was coming, until she showed up at his doorstep, without her maid. The twins are incorrigible, but Eloise grew up with 7 siblings and knows all the tricks. Will Eloise and Phillip find they suit? The 2nd Epilogues are a real treat.
This is a great series and it is a shame that Netflix had to ruin their version with revisionist history and sucking all the love and joy from the books. The only redeeming quality are the costumes. so, ignore Netflix and just enjoys this wonderful series.
Phillips story brought tears to my eyes. Eloise is one of my favorite characters.
As a new, delighted member of the Bridgerton family fan club, I acclaim this Ms. Quinn’s 5th book of the series does not disappoint, walking away AGAIN pleasantly satisfied with the author’s romantic alluring Bridgerton storylines from the 1800s. At the start of the new historical romance journey the author guides the reader through Phillips’ dark family tragedies and leaves an empathic whole in your heart when introducing her newly diffident character. Also, I’m appreciative of the author’s intuition to change up the emotional flow of her expected book series characters’ introductions. The ingenious part of this Bridgerton book series is how the author weaves her beloved characters’ embodiment into your growing emotional investment into the Bridgerton characters’ lives, like an adoring and caring, but gossipy second cousin. I find the journey of Eloise, Phillip and their ever so rocky relationship -that’s longing for love – very endearing. With the addition of ‘mischievous’ children embedded into the relationship, it now raises the bar to a new level of hope for Eloise, Phillip and his children. You will find yourself cheering them on until the final page!
This was another great story in the Bridgerton series. I loved getting more of Eloise and her vibrant personality and how she and Phillip got to know each other. To Sir Phillip, With Love was sweet, funny, and engaging. Wonderful read!
I had high expectations for Eloise’s story, she is one of my favorites. 🙂 I could never imagine her story going anything like this, it’s different, and I loved it! 🙂
Eloise was set on being a spinster. She had quite a few offers, but no one moved her. And it was totally ok until her best friend got married. While happy for her, she got jealous and accepted an offer of a gentleman she’s never met. Eloise loves to write letters to anyone, and after sir Phillip’s wife dies she wrote a note of condolences and they never stopped writing.
Phillip was over his head. He got the property, title, and wife after his father dies. His wife was unhappy from the start and he has no idea how to deal with kids, so he rather hides in the greenhouse with his plants. The kids are acting out majorly, so he deiced to asks Eloise for her hand in marriage, but he didn’t expect her to come unaccompanied one evening. She decides that she has to meet him before getting married, but he is far from what she expected. And the kids are not happy with her first too. 🙂
It’s a lovely story, and I liked it very much.
There were parts of To Sir Phillip, With Love that I liked and a lot that I did not like at all. I was not a fan of Sir Phillip. Some of his issues were explained by the end of the book. However, I feel the redemption and change in Sir Phillip occurred too quickly. I also feel the children would have been more traumatized with the neglect the children faced from (to my understanding) their Mother and Father and abuse from their nurse. I feel their turnaround, forgiveness, and acceptance of the changes were unrealistic. I really like Eloise but I felt her character did not shine in this book. I had pictured Eloise being mischievous and fun. I unfortunately did not feel that side of her much in this book. Overall, I also feel the whole love story was rushed too. I am sad to say, dear readers, I am disappointed in this book.
Another HILARIOUS book in the series. It’s so classically Eloise to just escape in the night to show up on a potential husbands doorstep, sight unseen, with no explanation left for her family. It would be fair to say that most of the Bridgerton clan are extremely stubborn and as a general rule they tend to butt heads and argue with their partners, but Phillip and Eloise certainly take it to a new level of grumbles and glares. I adored the way Eloise stepped in with the prankster trouble-makers and immediately became both partner-in-crime and surrogate mother all wrapped up in one!
I have definitely found my new favorite Bridgerton book. I always knew I loved Eloise, but her story is by far one of my favorites. Not only does the plot have a little more than the rest of the books, but I find the slow-burning chemistry between Sir Phillip and Eloise to be amazing.
What made this book stand out from the rest, though, was bringing children into the mix of their love story. I absolutely adored the twins and how Eloise formed a bond with them. I think that it really gave the novel that extra spark that it needed to stand out from the rest.
One of my favorite things about this novel was Eloise’s letters to everyone at the beginning of each chapter. She is so sassy and full of personality that it made me smile every time. After all, it’s not the man’s fault that men were born without manners, right?
Overall, I have to admit that I really enjoyed this one. After the last one that I read (Romancing Mister Bridgerton), I was seriously nervous to continue the Bridgerton series, but I was not disappointed.
Favorite quote: “’Sometimes,’ he said with a satisfied smile, ‘silence is a good thing.’”
I love everything Julia Quinn !!!
Ever since finishing book 4 in this series, I couldn’t wait to see what was going on with Eloise! This book did not disappoint. The very idea of starting a relationship in the manner which Eloise and Sir Phillip did is SO romantic and I found it to be very endearing.
One thing I really love about this series, is seeing the previous couples return in the other stories. I like to see how they’ve grown or what they are getting up to. I also adore how close the Bridgerton family is and how they are always there for each other. It’s a very nice thing to see and read about.
I have to admit to finally seeing the Bridgerton show on Netflix and I like how much is similar, but I wonder about some of the things that seem to have come from this book, but are quite different in the show. I’m very curious to see how that plays out if the show lasts through all of the books.
I was impressed with how the issue of anger and abuse was handled in the story. It’s something that’s very close to my heart and my past and I am always pleased when an author addresses the situation in a way that is realistic and informative. I feel like if anyone reading this doubts their ability to control their anger, they would maybe see some things in this story that would help them with that.
I’m very glad that the hype around the show forced me to read these books! On to book six!
3.5
I’m a bit perplexed on how to review this novel. If you are like me, making your way through the series, you will not want to miss out on knowing Eloise’s tale, but it’s not my favorite in the series. From the previous book, we know she flees London to her Sir Phillip and is married soon after. I feel it was enough to make me want to know more but in reality it fell a little short in substance. I have adored Eloise from all the previous books as she is intelligent and witty and can talk underwater. The timeline of this book is a lot further along from the first book, and Eloise is eight and twenty nearly sitting on the spinster shelf all by herself now Penelope has married Colin Bridgerton. Most of her siblings are married with children already and it’s making Eloise feel very lonely. Hence she takes up the offer to meet Sir Phillip Crane but goes about it in a manner not fitting. Sir Phillip was a complexed fellow who hadn’t had an easy ride in life but he feels Eloise Bridgerton might just be the one to brighten his and his children’s life. Don’t get me wrong, I still read this book at every opportunity I could get, I adored Sir Phillip right along with Eloise and thought he finally became the man he was supposed to be. He was rugged but gentle, stern but a teddy bear, his wit was as funny as Eloise’s and he could be romantic when he put his mind to it. When competing with the other Bridgerton siblings and their partners, it’s hard to outshine them and this one just falls short. The second epilogue centers more on Alison Crane than her parents. It details how she met her now husband and I get the feeling she must have her own book I’ll have to add to my TBR. But next for me is Francesca and her wicked beau.
It has been a few weeks but I got to return to the Bridgerton family. It was great to be back with them and get to know Eloise a little more. She has always interested me with her cunning remarks in the previous books but in this one we get to see her spitfire attitude more. I cannot wait to keep reading more about this family and keeping tabs on my other favorite members of the family!
Great to watch Eloise get her true love.
Audiobook: Narrator – Rosalyn Landor
I really enjoyed this narration. This narrator gave each character a distinctive voice as well as bringing vibrancy to their emotions and reactions. I have to admit, I did think that Phillip was much, much older until we found out exactly how old he is and my jaw dropped. His voice in the audio was not one I would picture fitting for a 30 yr old.
I was concerned that I would not like Eloise’s story. Not that I didn’t like Eloise in previous books, I did. I was afraid she might end up being too much and her character might be overblown in an attempt to continue her independence. That wasn’t even close to the Eloise here. She’s definitely still lively and independent, but in an appropriate manner for the era. I loved how she pulled Phillip out of his greenhouse and into the world around him. Namely, his children.
This book has a lot of emotion and angst mixed with some of the sweetest moments as well as plenty of wit and humor. I absolutely love Phillip and my heart never yearned or a hero to find peace and comfort within the walls of his home. I loved watching him evolve from a father distanced from his children emotionally and physically to one who connected with them and embraced them in every way.
Didn’t love this one quite as much as the last two but it was still a ton of fun. Eloise is just great. All of these books so far are just so much fun and so engaging and it makes them super quick reads. Very much enjoying my Bridgerton journey.
Not again. . . I feel like I’m stuck to just enjoy the last books of this series instead of loving them like I did with the first ones.
I really liked Eloise in the other books and I was kind of curious with Phillip story because of everything but it felt like it was something missing in their story.
There were still some good moments though and I really loved how Julia incorporated Eloise letters in the beggining of each chapter.
I enjoyed this next installment of the Bridgerton family saga. I always liked Eloise and I find it hilarious that’s she’s considered a spinster at 28 (ah this reminds me why regency novels fell out of my favor). But of course, after watching the TV show, I wanted to make it through the books!
This book, following Eloise and Sir Phillip was good. We first met them in the previous book, as part of the extended epilogue. And I liked how different they were. Sir Phillip did indeed seem a bit self absorbed with his plants, with his life and needs and wants, often forgetting or not interacting with his children but I guess that his interactions with his first wife had scarred him (she has an untimely death after suffering from post natal depression). Eloise is the true star of this book- she’s funny, (excerpts of her letters, which start every chapter, made me laugh and Julia Quinn used them well, setting the stage for the major point of the chapter) and relatable. She wants love and wasn’t willing to settle.
I enjoyed Sir Phillips kids and I really liked seeing the other Bridgertons again (mostly the men and Sophie, Benedict’s wife) . So overall, while there were some issue with the book, in general, I enjoyed the overall flow and it moved quickly and further entrenched me in the Bridgerton world.
This is book 5 and it’s starts out with Eloise Bridgeston who is the middle child in her family she is at the age where they would label her spinster but she is not unwed because she didn’t have offers. She is unwed because she didn’t not find the man that made her feel the way she dreamed it would. So she planned a life to be alone with her best friend Penelope the only problem her best friend fell in love and married her brother Colin. Now she was a little jealous and lonely. She had been writing her deceased cousin husband for a while and had gotten an invite to meet in case they might get married.
Phillip Crane story starts very sad as the man is trying very hard to make his depressed wife happy but she ends up trying to take her life he saves her but she still ends up passing. He is left with twin children and doesn’t know what to do. Mean while he gets a letter from Eloise and the two send letter for a year when he asks her to come meet and see if they suit each other for marriage. These two have great chemistry and attraction. The problem is they are opposite but sometimes that’s the best. Whiles she is there the kids prank her and her brother show up to save her. There is a lot the two learn from each other as they learn to compromise and fall in love. This is a sweet steamy love story with passion of words and heat of attraction. These two learn to over come and work together as they find there path together. This book is very well written . I can not wait for book 6
