Girls who dare – Inside every wallflower is the beating heart of a lioness, a passionate individual willing to risk all for their dream, if only they can find the courage to begin. When these overlooked girls make a pact to change their lives, anything can happen. Eleven girls – Eleven dares in a hat. Twelve passionate stories. Who will dare to risk it all?To Ride with the KnightA reckless beauty… Ride with the Knight
A reckless beauty…
Lady Helena Adolphus is no stranger to scandal. Her brother may be a duke, but his black reputation once threatened her own chances of making a good match. Now returned to the bosom of the ton, Helena is feted and courted as much for her loveliness and wild green eyes as for her hefty dowry. Yet the eligible bachelors leave her cold and respectability is deadly dull. There is only one man who makes her pulse leap, and she knows she’d be a fool to pursue him.
A ruthless man…
Gabriel Knight understands desperation. Born into poverty and raised in a foundling home, Gabriel used every opportunity to claw his way out of the gutter. Now one of the wealthiest men in England, wicked Knight is dismayed to discover his success has not bought him happiness. Restless and bored, he blames his ennui on the pompous aristocrats he despises, those who still close doors in his face.
An imprudent affair …
Though Helena is aware of Gabriel’s animosity for the ton that shuns him, the sinful man tempts her beyond all reason. He is likely out to ruin her, and she knows it, but her stupid pride won’t let her back down from each confrontation. Before she knows what she’s doing, Helena has opened her mouth and dared him to do something scandalous.
As the heat of attraction flares hotter between them, the risk of getting burned only makes riding with the Knight ever more enticing.
Warning: This book has a stubborn, wilful and feisty heroine and a drool worthy gentleman. There WILL be some cursing and graphically descriptive sex scenes no way even bordering on erotica!

A wonderfully written book with characters who are just as awesome. Even though the times had many challenges each was taken in such a page turning way, I couldn’t turn them fast enough…
Lovely story that is so well written. The characters are well developed and interesting. A joy to read!
Eleven women and eleven dares. As each draws a dare out of a hat they set of on a adventure that will lead them to a husband. Letters written to each other are interspersed throughout the text which is an interesting technique which draws together the characters who are scattered around England. Worth the time to read.
I was quite sad to reach the end of this series. Each story is unique, and the supportive group of women friends is truly inspirational. I also appreciate how the men become friends through their wives, and protect and support and balance each other through the challenges of society and love. While the strictures of society can sometimes seem to create an “artificial” barrier, it is lovely to watch each couple find the turning/tipping point that allows them to step outside those restrictions and find a new way to think of themselves and their lives.
Enjoyed the multiple threads of characters running through what is obviously a series. The Peculiar Ladies is a fun concept/name and I did like that the women characters all are positive and support each other, and have progressive relationships with their menfolk. The excerpts of letters at the beginning of each chapter were a good way to set the stage for the next act, so to speak. Helped one to understand characters that were carry overs from previous books, filled out the nature of those relationships.
In general, I really enjoy this author!
The girls who dare series would make a fantastic miniseries! Great writing brings out the characters of those in the story through brilliant dialogue. What fun to read. I could not put it down.
I always love an Emma Leech book — once you start reading – even if it is the first time she helps you see the history of the relationships between all of her quirky and loveable and some not so loveable characters! So happy to see this couple resolve and looking forward to the next/last of the Girls who dare.
Lady Helena Adolphus, one of the Peculiar Ladies, is adventurous and outgoing. She finds most of her potential suitors to be more like boys than husband material. Gabriel Knight, a bastard who has worked to make himself one of the wealthiest men in England, is the one who catches Helena’s interest. No one sees any future for Helena and Gabe because of their different classes. The book explores their growing love that culminates in a run to Gretna Green. You’ll enjoy this sparkling romance.
I love this series and this one was great too!
Yet another enjoyable book in this series! I think it was my favorite so far. I’m a fan of Emma Leech’s books. I’ve enjoyed her Girls Who Dare series most and had been looking forward to this latest installment. I’m just sad the series is nearing it’s end! I can’t wait to read Matilda’s story but at the same time, I don’t want the series to end!
Love this author, and I love all the Girls that Dare books. Very wonderful read!!!!
(Sigh)…To Ride with the Knight was wonderful and I LOVED it! I’m so sad I finished it already, but I couldn’t put it down! It’s also bittersweet this series is almost over, but I’m wishing my life away waiting for July 3rd!
To Ride with a Knight………And what a ride it was!! I knew I would love Gabe & Helena’s story, but I didn’t even begin to know how much.
From the moment Gabriel Knight came on the scene, I knew eventually I was going to love the bastard who grew up on the streets with no parents & clawed his way doing anything he could to become the wealthy man he was today & he has quite the reputation with the ladies. He is a successful businessman, owns many properties & investments & can purchase anything he wants – but he can’t buy acceptance into society. He knows he needs to marry into a well-established Ton family to get this last thing he yearns for; however, what does he do? He falls in love with a duke’s daughter & knows that he can never have her & tries to keep her at arm’s length until he can’t.
Helena Adolphus is the eighteen-year-old sister of Robert Adolphus, the Duke of Bedwin. She is beautiful & knows she has been raised to marry well but she is smitten with Gabe & ties to get him to like her because she is vibrant, full of sunshine, opinionated & wants to marry for love. She has been scolded by her friends to stay away from Gabe & even she knows, her brother will not entertain his interest even if she could get Gabe attention…….and then she did!
The wonderful romance is so much fun – bantering between them was great, a have a race between them from London to Brighton(he should never have said she couldn’t drive a phaeton as well as he could), friends that were so kind, servants that were friends & loyal to the death, her brother was ready to slay dragons to keep her safe. This was a sweet, exciting love story between two classes & I highly recommend this & the entire series!
The letters are better than the story.
This one is a bit of an after thought. I like Gabe. Helena is okay but we don’t know much about her other than she’s cheerful after a long awful ride across the country. The story is more involved with furthering the arcs of other characters and providing epilogues for those already settled. And the fact that the letters at the beginning of the chapters are more informative and emotional than the content of the chapter is just sad.
Enjoyed it so much I got the other books in the series.
I liked this one because you spend more time with the couple in love than you do in the other books. I love the way he treats her and the way she can be herself around him. I was so into the book that I was yelling and talking out loud. I was glad they’re ending ended the way it did.
One Of The Best In This Series
Helena and Gabe’s story, along with “To Winter at Wildsyde” are the standouts in this series. The plot features excitement, humor, and emotionally intense scenes. It is a captivating read about rebuffing the “sensible” expectations of society to follow the heart.

My review :
Will he ever be enough, him the fatherless boy, for the lofty woman who shaken his world …
I confess Helena was not my favorite in the daring girls group, as Minerva at the beginning. She is a Duke’s daughter and sister, so she lacked of nothing, so what could be interesting in her, while Gabriel, I like a man who raised himself from the gutter.
Plus Helena’s book happens to come in between me and Matilda and Montagu’s story!
My heart and eyes are only marked on July, 3rd.
Thus she entered the scene of this book with quite an impediment.
Why I didn’t really care about a socialite and a social-climbing businessman, both are well-turned in their own world, yet once more, Mrs Leech did wonder, she paired two successful people together, still them being born from each side of the blanket, they are perfectly unsuitable in the gaze of the ton, it does not stop them as each one stirs a longing in the other, to be seen just once for whom they are in their inner core.
Pride and stubbornness are what linked them at the beginning, until they show they failing and hidden wounds. I am not sure I liked Helena to poke him at every turn, like if she could not forgive him to not fan at her feet like her many suitors. When she is quite courageous to go after the man she wants, she has her doubts but better make him angry than not be seen.
I began to really warm to their plight when it seemed only dents and holes happened on their journey toward another, how being born on one side of the fence would influence one’s whole life, whom to encounter, what to do, where to go and whom to live with …
At half mark, I was completely sucked in the book, and glad it was a rest day.
The road trip part of the book was so sweet, fun and moving with its alternating to Matilda’s struggles.
How I hate Mrs Leech, I was so certain to dislike Montagu, but with her few last books, she shows how much more of him there is instead of the haughty icy mask he presents to the world. And now my heart aches for him and the little boy who was robbed of love since his childhood. I am glad he has Phoebe to cheer him in his darkest days.
Oh my, how I love the bout of letters at each chapter’s opening, I even wish there would be more chapters in each book.
One more five stars read when I began it just because I needed to see how things would progress on Matilda and Montagu’s side, and finished it with tears in my eyes for Helena and Gabe.
And now, when book 11 is since long preordered, imagine my surprise when I checked the series and discovered there will be a twelfth book, but then, who will be the heroine?!
