“McCaffrey’s world of the Talented is as vivid as that of Pern and its dragons.”—Publishers WeeklyWhen a freak accident furnishes solid scientific proof of paranormal mental abilities, the world reacts with suspicion and fear. How can ordinary people coexist with a minority able to read minds, heal with a touch, peer into the future, or move objects with a thought? How can anyone with such power … can anyone with such power be trusted not to abuse it? Harsh repression seems the only answer
Gifted with precognitive talent, Henry Darrow has other ideas, foreseeing a future in which the Talents are accepted for what they are and not what they can offer their fellow humans. But the road to that future will not be easy. Darrow and the powerful telepath Daffyd op Owen must win the public’s trust while overcoming the threat of rogue Talents like Solange Boshe, a young girl so consumed with hatred that her thoughts can kill, and the singer known as Amalda, whose telepathic prowess can unite a thousand strangers in joyful harmony—or mold them into a bloodthirsty mob. . . .

Its a collection of short stories, Bought it decades ago Some are obviously better than others, and some inspired other series she wrote. Nice background, but its rather obscure. Nice for the dedicated fan.
This book, like everything I have read by Anne McCaffrey is astounding! The universe she has created is not only vast but ever expanding!
I’ve always been a fan of Anne McCaffrey.
She creates compelling stories that draw you in.
A collection of early McCaffrey stories about Talent. It eventually led yo “Pegasus in Flight,” “Pegasus in Space” and “The Rowan” Tower/Hive series. My favorite series in the Anne McCaffrey oeuvre.
GREAT AUTHOR WHO NEVER LETS US DOWN
fun read about the paranormal and how they might live
As an Occupational Therapist I love books where an individual with a disability over comes and is successful. Then combine it with hard science fiction with good writing and good character development and you have a winner!
Loved this book. This is a prequel to one of my all time favorite series
I have all three books plus most of the other stories that are written by Anne McCaffery none of her books have every left me hanging. So glad that now her books are coming out for e-readers.
This is the premier book for one of my all-time favorite sci-fi series! It reads more like a series of short stories, but these stories set the stage for the rest of the series. I’ve read that series several times, but I only recently read this book, and it filled in a lot of the back story.
I’ve read most of Anne MacCaffery ‘s books, and really enjoy her stories. They are a great escape, and she is greatly missed. She, along with Marion Zimmer Bradley, did much to pave the way for women writing in the SF/Fantasy genre. She is among the Greats.
I first read this book back in high school. And every so often I find it again and re read it. Anne McCraffery is one of my favorite authors. After To Ride Pegasus I looked for and found more wonderful characters to read and become friends with. I recommend this book and any of her other books because she has never disappointed me.
I read this book long ago in paperback, then as life is, I moved and book was lost. So when it went on sale in kindle format had to buy, read and visit old friends.
Love love love Anne Mccaffrey! Her stories are original, and you just can’t wait to see what happens next! This series is particularly good, sort of futuristic but classic story lines sewn in. I think I own every one of her books.
Love books by this author. Highly recommend reading all her books
Many interesting characters and intriguing world of various psychic talents and how they may be manifested and used built into a many layered story line. Very enjoyable!
A different world.
McCaffrey always creates an engrossing story and characters.
Not up to her usual standard. Too much detail about various characters “gifts” and difficult to keep it all straight. Ditto for plot. Worth reading only if you are a McCaffrey fan
I read this book years ago. I enjoyed reading it back then and I still like it very much. It’s hard to go wrong with any Anne McCaffrey book.
