A young widow and the new Scottish Lord inheriting the title …she under the impression her home is to be hers via a will that her deceased husband didn’t sign prior to his death… let the fun begin!
I liked this book and enjoyed reading it just to see where Marcus and Henrietta would eventually be in their search for happiness but was a bit at loose ends with the new maid mentioned ( a young redheaded Scotswoman) .. maybe I was expecting more about her and was kinda disappointed with that aspect but overall not a bad read .
Look forward to reading more of this series I’m able to do so.
This book was gifted to me and this is my voluntary review.Tamara Gill
I must admit I relented to read this one book because the last one disappointed me, but this one just reconciled me with Mrs Tamara Gill’s work.
I do loved both main characters, Henrietta and Marcus are two handsomely crafted characters, they have their flaws and make mistakes but they stay true to themselves.
Henrietta despite finding herself widowed so early in her marriage, because she has loved her late husband, didn’t became bitter nor throw caution to the wind and go back to the ton as a free woman.
Marcus while never wished for his cousin’s death, welcomes his new fortune, it is quite a boon for his crumbling estate and it will help to settle his son. So he never expected to fall for his late cousin’s widow.
They have an instant attraction, and they do not try to hide nor fight it. Their real struggles are about what they think are kind of no-way secrets, can they open themselves to the other and how will each other reacts to it.
I loved to see them interact, react to another, fight their feelings then give in, then how they apprehended each other’s secret and the decisions they took, the errors they made then how they decided to settle them right.
Plus a lovely epilogue and an awesome cover.
Could love ever come again? Lady Henrietta had lost her husband and was not looking for another attachment. Removing herself to her husband’s country estate, she is happy to be out of London but is a little overwhelmed in running that home.
But, fate in the way of an unexpected heir shows up to claim the estate and it begins! Marcus Duncan has his Scottish home and needs money to restore his holdings so intends to sell the estate. But when the two meet sparks fly and the attraction is high. The problem is Henrietta thought the estate was left to her but there is a slight problem.
What a lovely story that takes two people who seem meant for each other, but the secrets they harbor seem to hold them apart. The author as usual takes us on a journey with wonderful characters and emotions that come alive. Prepare to start page one and not be able to stop until the end. Although part of a series this can be read as a standalone, but you wll want to read every story!
To Marry A Marchioness is book 6 in the Lords of London series by Tamara Gill. Gill is one of my very favorite authors and I instantly grab her books anytime they are published. Unfortunately, this book fell short for me. Way too much sex and not enough plot depth. When a young maid is introduced into the mix, I held my breath and hoped that she would be a pivotal figure to the plot. But no. She is just a maid. No villains, no danger…just a few rutting characters. I found myself disappointed in this one. It is well written in the sense that the characters wishes and thoughts are explained thoroughly; but there was no real hook and no plot twist. Not giving up on Gill. She is truly a master writer. I just didn’t like this one too much. I was gifted a copy of this book.
3.25 STARS
The h is now a widow after one year of marriage. She grieves for her deceased husband for the required amount of time – one year. The H enters the picture and after a brief time they begin an affair.
The H has a child out of wedlock with his maid, who was willing but also taboo because under his protection. Did the H learn anything about consequences in not pulling out? No, because when he and the h take up their affair, he never once thinks he may get her with child. They both are keeping secrets which is never a story line I enjoy.
Lovemaking outside of marriage many times, heat level 4.5 out of 5.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA and steam. (ljb)
Widowed after so short a time of marriage, leaves Lady Henrietta in despair. Whilst her family would love for her to return to London and find another husband, Henrietta knows that it will be in vain. After all, her husband has left her the estate and her new purpose in life is running it and ensuring the future of the people who live there. She does not take into account the arrival of the new Marquess of Zetland and the discovery that the estate belongs to him after all. Marcus is immediately attracted to his cousin’s widow and after the estate problems are ironed out, he and Henrietta discover a passion that knows no limits. It’s unfortunate that both of them are holding secrets that put a damper on any future they may have. The plot of this romance is sensuous but tinged with sadness as Marcus and Henrietta have to deal with their secrets. I found myself rooting for the couple and hoping that they would see their way forward to happiness. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

is the sixth and final book in Tamara Gill’s Lords of London series. Henrietta is connected to other characters in the series in that she is the daughter of Darcy and Cameron, the Duke and Duchess of Athelby, whom we met in the first book of the series. However it is not necessary to read that book first, each book in this series can easily serve as a stand-alone book.
I was a bit disappointed by the addition of the mysterious Scottish maid into the household. The same maid that was caught conversing with Marcus and ran away when Henrietta and her cousin were seen. I figured this was to be the maid that fled his Scottish estate and that there was going to be a fair amount of drama from this. But then nothing was done with her character and it just felt pointless and anti-climatic that she was even brought up in the first place.
What I enjoyed the moments when Marcus would shock Henrietta and her more refined sensibilities with his freer speech. Although they have an instant attraction, they di not act on it at first and so the romance between them progressed at a good pace.
There is a bit of misunderstanding here, as in many historical romances. But I agreed with both characters’ decisions to withhold their secrets. Hers was deeply personal and it made sense that she would not share it unless the relationship became serious enough. And Marcus kept his secret in order to protect someone he loves from scorn. They both decide to disclose their secrets at the same time which does not go ideally, but I sympathized with both of them and agreed with how they went about it.
This was a great series, I recommend the entire Lords of London series to those who enjoy historical romances.

I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited membership.
Young widow Lady Henrietta Zetland wants to remain in Surrey and return to London only after her year of mourning. She doesn’t want to remarry. She inherited Kewell Hall, which was supposed to be an unentailed property, but when the new Marquess, Marcus Duncan, comes down from Scotland, Henrietta is in for a shock. Or two!
It was so nice to see that Henrietta had loved her late husband, and there was no animosity between her and her parents. I loved Marcus and Henrietta; they’re rational, thoughtful people; they listen, they care. Both have painful secrets and I so much appreciated that they chose to act like adults; there were no misunderstandings, no ridiculous outbursts. And I felt their sadness when it came to the secrets they harboured. There was lust, but there was respect, which easily turned into love. Marcus might be the Laird of Clan Duncan, but he’s just a country boy at heart, albeit a Scottish one. He is not as refined as Henrietta, which provides fodder for a few amusing scenes. It was wonderful to read about two charming, straightforward, and sympathetic characters.
The prose is elegant and evocative, the dialogues are delightful, and the story flows well. I was grateful that there was only a sprinkling of Scottish dialect, just enough to give it some colour. The romance progressed nicely, and I loved reading about the day-to-day on the estate. TO MARRY A MARCHIONESS is a quick and very enjoyable read, so very pleasant and romantic.
It’s unimportant, but I would like to mention that I found the chapter numbers very small. And although it’s book #6, it stands entirely on its own.
Lady Henrietta Zetland loved her husband of one year, but she realizes what the doctors said about her being barren is true and she refuses to remarry and take away another man’s right to have children. Scotsman Marcus Duncan succeeds her husband to the title and at first he is most concerned about acquiring enough money to make his Scottish estate profitable to provide for his scorned illegitimate son. He never expected to be attracted to Henrietta and for her to want him back. When they each reveals their secrets will their love be enough? This was a sexy funny romance. I loved that Marcus thought Henrietta was enough and that Henrietta was thrilled to have a child even if it wasn’t of her own blood. Her cousin Maggie deserves another chance at love after being force to end her marriage with an abusive man.
Henrietta, a young widow is resigned to spend the rest of her life by herself because no man wants a barren woman. When Marcus, a Scottish laird and now the owner who inherited her deceased husband’s estate comes to claim it, she is shocked. But the instant attraction between the two turns into a whirlwind romance. But he has an illegitimate son who cannot inherit and she cannot give him heirs. Will there love be enough? An emotional story that you will not want to put down. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Such a charming story. To Marry a Marchioness by Tamera Gill is book 6 in the Lords of London series. Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. Tamara has such a descriptive was of writing that this story draws you in from the first page to the last. Her characters are just wonderful. This is truly a great regency at it’s best. This story has a death, secrets, being barren, understanding, kindness, pride, hard work, not wanting to leave, selfing properties, understanding parents and love. I highly recommend you read this book.!
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
To Marry a Marchioness by Tamara Gill is book 6 in the Lords of London Series. This is the story of Marcus Duncan, The Marquess Zetland and Lady Henrietta Nicholson, Marchioness of Zetland. I haven’t yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book.
Henrietta’s husband has died and she though he left her some of the untitled things but only to find that he failed to go forward to sign. Marcus is the Scottish cousin who has now inherited the Title and estate and goes forward to check on things and start the ownership process really. There he meets Henrietta where their instant attraction is quick and they go forward with an affair. Although it shouldn’t be they can’t help their feelings but each has secrets that may hurt their growing relationship.
This was another great page turner from Ms. Gill….loved it.
I loved this romance that was about to imperfect characters that were perfect for each other. The story line is engaging and held my interest well. I enjoyed the couples chemistry and felt it was easy to feel their attraction. With an enticing blend of intense emotions and secrets causing plenty of trouble for these two, you will be swept away by and swept up in this very enjoyable romance.
These two find so much more than expected. Neither are looking for a relationship let alone love. This author always brings such depth of emotion to her characters. You always come away with a good feeling.
Marcus Duncan, Laird of Clan Duncan, and the new Marquess of Zetland has come to England to familiarize himself with his new estates. He has been given to understand that are well managed and prosperous. He hopes that some of the income from the properties will help set his estate in Scotland to rights. Lady Henrietta Nicolson, widow of the former Marquess, who still resides at Kewell Hall, agrees to let Marcus stay at the manor. She also offers to show him around the estate. They are attracted to each other almost immediately, and after spending time together, begin a short affair. Both would like something more. Secrets, his and hers, may make a deeper relationship improbable, if not impossible. Can they work through the problems, or will they go their separate ways with just a happy memory of each other?
Henrietta and Duncan are awesome. They fit together perfectly. Both are intelligent, strong, and competent. They are also understanding, kind, and caring. Theirs is a heartwarming story of recovery from loss, finding acceptance, and falling in love. It is an easy to read compelling story. It holds your attention and keeps you hoping for a happily ever after. Henrietta’s family is loving and supportive, and Papa gives really good advice. I have enjoyed the Lords of London series, and I really liked this story. I recommend the book and series.
A very gentle romance. I loved the overall story of a young woman who is barren. Having just lost the love of her life she feels she will never marry again. A year later she meets the new heir and sparks fly. He has secrets and so does she. When they discuss them, she feels hopeless. She sends him away. Henrietta, for being young, is a very capable mistress. She runs the estate she lives in, manages the farm and all the employees and tenants. She is gentle yet strong. She is the daughter of a duke but has been brought up to respect people from all stations of life. She is not prejudice and is accepting of people and their situations others may find embarrassing. Marcus is the new Marquess and has come to England from Scotland to inspect his inherited holdings. He is a handsome man. He has a two-year-old son with no mother. He is intelligent and thoughtful. He has a high regard for his duties and will not fail those who depend on him. He is easy going, handsome, a great conversationalist and is a very loving person. Henrietta and Marcus are attracted to each other but will their secrets put an end to what is definitely growing between them? This is a quick and enjoyable read and I do recommend it. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is wonderful story of Henrietta and Marcus. Henrietta was a widow and Marcus is the new heir. Their instant attraction and coming together was a very nice story which was well written and interesting. Tamara Gill is a great author who gets you into her stories.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first book by Ms Gill that I have read. I enjoyed the characters, I felt that they worked together well and the story line was great for a quick read. It flowed nicely with very little filling eg to much what they were wearing etc. What didn’t appeal to me was the amount of sex. Although it was mild, the story was based on the characters having an affair, which meant for this reviewer, I skipped a lot of it as I always do for the sex scenes. If you enjoy mild sex in your books, you will enjoy this one as it had depth of feeling and a few secrets that had you to wondering how they were going to be worked out. And after finding out the secrets how they would get their HEA. I received this book as an ARC and have given it my honest review. I gave it a 4 because I enjoyed the emotion that Ms Gill gave to her writing but not a 5 because for me there was too much sex.

Another enthralling read that I read in one sitting on a train journey. I loved both Henrietta & Marcus, their attraction sizzled, an added bonus is that Henrietta is the daughter of the Duke & Duchess of Athelby & both of them featured in this book. Both Marcus & Henrietta had a secret that almost ruined their relationship but common sense & good advice helped them. The pace was very good & flowed effortlessly. I hope Henrietta’s twin Henry has his story
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Wow another amazing novel from Tamara Gill. Henrietta Zetland is recently widowed. She truly loved her husband but after 12 months he died of an infection of the lungs. She lives in her country home in Surrey (which her husband left her), and she feels quite content. Her mother and father (Darcy and Cameron from book 1 To Bedevil a Duke) want her back home and try to get back into society and all it has to offer. She refuses.
Marcus Duncan the new Marquess of Zetland is quite relieved to have inherited all of the money and properties (not that his cousin had to die but he needed the money badly)…he has son and wants to be able to provide for him. His Highland castle is falling apart and wants it repaired before winter. His son may never be able to inherit because of the circumstances surrounding his birth so he wants to make sure his future is set and he is never wanting. He goes to examine all his property and is confused why Henrietta is still living in his home. He would never throw her out but is curious. She too is confused. When they both get down to why they learn her late husband made a terrible mistake. Henrietta agrees to leave for her home (that her parents gave her) that borders this property and is quite larger. The two agree to Henrietta staying and showing Marcus around. During this time they both fall for each other. Each carry a secret and both know the proper thing to do is go their separate ways. Well Henrietta is the daughter of Darcy so things don’t always happen the way one thinks…Love this story. It held such emotions. I almost cried in the beginning and was quite surprise that once again a subject was broached. It has a HEA ending but not like the usual ones we read. It is fabulous!
