Lady Henrietta Zetland is definitely not looking for love again after being widowed so young. She cannot provide the heirs most husbands desire, so is quite happy to abandon the trappings of the ton and London Season for country life. Yet the moment she meets Marcus Duncan, the new Marquess Zetland, the passion she has long suppressed returns to life and overwhelms all good sense and propriety.… propriety.
Becoming a Marquess is just what Marcus Duncan needs to save his crumbling Scottish estate. His travels to England to oversee his newly acquired estates, throws him into the path of his cousin’s widow. Marcus is instantly charmed by Henrietta and a passionate love affair ensues. The last thing he expects is to lose his heart and when he pushes for more, it is revealed they both have secrets that could separate them forever.

Lady Henrietta Nicholson, Marchioness of Zetland, has just buried her beloved husband, Walter. Now she is faced with the daunting task of running his unentailed Surrey estate, Kewell Hall, on her own, but she finds this very much preferable to putting on a happy face for London’s elite. Henrietta feels she needs time alone to grieve and come to terms with spending the rest of her life alone; she can’t remarry in good conscience knowing that she can never have children.
For Scottish Laird Marcus Duncan inheriting the marquesate of Zetland from his distant cousin couldn’t have come at a better time, though he does feel awful for the late marquess’ family. Now he must leave his home in Scotland and his beloved son Arthur to deal with the legalities of his inheritance. Marcus is thankful he’ll at least be able to provide his son with a more stable future and hopefully counteract the stigma of his son’s illegitimacy.
When he finally gets around to touring the last estate, Kewell Hall, a year later Marcus is surprised to find his cousin’s widow still in residence since he owns the property now. He feels like a cad telling her the estate is his but he needs the funds to better his son’s future and repair his own estates in Scotland. Yet he finds himself making excuses to extend his stay at Kewell Hall with the marchioness. Both are surprised by their reaction to each other, but since Marcus has a finite time left in England and Henrietta has strong reasons not to marry, it seems impossible for them to have any sort of future together.
This was a quick story with plot points that are new to me in regards to the hero and I found that interesting. The book held my interest and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lady Henrietta Nicholson, Marchioness of Zetland, has become a widow after only one year of marriage to Lord Walter Nicholson. She continues to live at their estate under the assumption that it belongs to her as deeded by her late husband. Imagine her shock when, a year later, her late husbands’ heir arrives and it’s discovered that the deed had never been signed!
Marcus Duncan, cousin and heir to Walter, leaves his castle in Scotland to come check out the estates left to him and meets with Henrietta to discuss why she’s still living at one of them. Instant attraction surprises them both and it doesn’t take long before passion takes over. Both of them have a secret, though, that may prevent them from finding their HEA.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novella and the steamy scenes are very well written. Both characters are truly wonderful and you can’t help but love them.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Henrietta is disconsolate after the death of her husband to whom she had only been married twelve months. A year later she meets the handsome Scot who has inherited her husband’s title and is surprised by the attraction she feels for him. But how can they have a future when she has a dark secret? She married one husband without telling him and she cannot do so again. Highly recommended.

This was a fun, short read that was very entertaining with a wonderful couple. Lady Henrietta Nicholson, Marchioness of Zetland is widowed at a young age after being married just a year when her husband, Walter, died when a cold settled in his lungs.
After a year, allowing the family time to mourn the death of the Marquess; the cousin of Walter and new Marquess of Zetland, Marcus Duncan comes to claim his estate that Henrietta thinks she has been left with. As it turns out, he is correct after both of them contact their solicitors to verify that Walter never signed her copy of the paperwork so the estate did belong to Marcus.
There was an instant draw between them and they find themselves in a love affair – and they do love one another. But there are problems, they both hold a secret that would keep them from being together. I recommend this book, you will enjoy the characters and the story.
This is an excellent story about a young widow, Henrietta, and her meeting of the new Marquess of Zetland, her late husband’s heir as he has come to England to review the properties that he has inherited from his cousin. When he arrives he finds that the house and lands, that she currently resides on, actually belong to him as his cousin failed to sign the deed over to her. Upon meeting her, he is captivated by her beauty and character and the feelings are mutual. There is a HEA to this story but each of them has a secret that must first be revealed. The story is beautifully written, full of romance and some hurt feelings before they attain their HEA. I loved the story and highly recommend it as a great read.
