She saved his life, but can she save him from himself?Hunter, Marquess of Aaron, has the ton fooled. Outwardly he’s a gentleman of position, with good contacts, wealth and charm. Inwardly, he’s a mess. His vice—drinking himself into a stupor most days—almost kills him when he steps in front of a hackney cab. His saviour, a most unlikely person, is an angel to gaze at, but with a tongue sharper … sharper than his sword cane.
Cecilia Smith dislikes idleness and waste. Had she been born male, she would already be working for her father’s law firm. So, on a day when she was late for an important meeting at one of her many charities, she was not impressed by having to step in and save a foxed gentleman rogue from being run over.
When their social spheres collide, Hunter is both surprised and awed by the capable, beautiful Miss Smith. Cecilia, on the other hand, is left confused and not a little worried by her assumptions about the Marquess and his demons. It is anyone’s guess whether these two people from different worlds can form one of their own…

I loved, loved loved this book. I will collect all this authors books for my reading pleasure.
I enjoyed this story & the main characters a lot! Cecilia Smith is a strong, opinionated, middle class daughter of a law firm owner. She has grown up despising the upper class & their idleness & waste & has dedicated herself to running several orphanages/schools for children.
Hunter, Marquess of Aaron looks good, smells good, acts good & has the Ton completely fooled as he is drinking himself into oblivion every single day. Then he, literally, runs into Cecilia when she pushes him back from stepping out in front of a hackney (he is foxed, of course). She lets him know exactly how she feels about him being inebriated in the middle of the day & his upper crust airs he is putting on. They part, never to cross paths again – not so fast, this is where the journey begins for them. Can Lia help him escape his demons, can they get past the two different worlds they live in? I highly recommend this book to all historical romance readers.
This is the first book by this author, that I’ve read, but it certainly my won’t be my last! I truly enjoyed reading about Hunter and Cecilia’s first meeting, their misconceptions about each other and eventually reaching their HEA. When I came across the first book in this series, “To Bedevil a Duke”, it sounded good too, but I didn’t snatch it up quick enough. I glad to say it’s now in my TBR file!
Highly Recommended! 4.5 stars
I was not crazy about this book at all and I do enjoy this author..We have a drunken Marquess that seems that is all he does. Then we have Cecilia and I should have been able to like her but I didn’t, and that saddened me because she had some good ideas but the way she carried them out just didn’t win me over. And then Hunter all he wanted to do was make her his mistress so it left a sour taste in my mouth.

I really enjoyed the characters of Hunter and Cecilia. I absolutely loved Cecelia’s strength, kindness, and independent spirit. I liked the way the author brought them together and eventually had them fall in love.

This book was a true delight to read! The story was well written, the plot flowed effortlessly throughout the entire book and the characters, Cecilia and Hunter were very believable and human! As I turned each page I was drawn deeper and deeper in as their relationship evolved and I found it so difficult to put this book down that I ended up reading it in one evening!
ThIs book throws an unlikely pair together. The world from the past was rich with just enough modern language thrown in to make it easy for most people to understand easily.
I especially loved the dialogue between the main characters.

I enjoyed this historical romance very much. An underlaying plot that deals with alcoholism adds a serious tone to this read, but it balanced quite well with some light moments and witty banter. This opposites attract story brings together Celia and Hunter. Celia is a wonderful heroine. She is strong willed, capable, caring, no nonsense and dedicated to making the world a better place. Hunter, I did like but I had some issues with his actions when Celia truly needed him the most. Still I did like them as a couple and thought they had good chemistry.
What happens when a working class Bluestocking and a rake on the way to destroying himself tangle? One heck of a great novella! Saving Hunter, the Marquess of Aaron from getting run over by a hack due to his inebriated state, Cecilia got little thanks! But as they run into each other the next day, fate seems to have stepped in. She wants to buy a building for an orphanage and school that he owns. He is determine not to sale it. Full of witty dialogue and strong characters I had to read through this in one sitting. Just could not stop until I finished. But the question is can these two people from different classes ever be happy?
This story was really very touching and emotional. On the outside Hunter was just a rogue but due to his alcoholism, the good was hidden. Take this wonderful journey of redemption and love that will fill your heart with joy. Cannot wait for more of this series.
The second book in the Lords of London series it is a well-written book. Cecilia Smith pushes Hunter, Marquess of Aaron of a Hackney cab that because he is so drunk he does not see it coming, they part ways. The next time they see each other is when Cecilia and her father go to talk about a building she and the London Relief Society want to buy and he owns, I enjoyed reading this book. To be honest, I did not like Hunter or Cecelia at first. But as the story went on, and you got to know them underneath their society shell, I did eventually like them, and the story.
To Madden a Marquess by Tamara Gill is book Two in the Lords of London series. This is the story of Hunter, Marquess of Aaron and Cecilia Smith. I haven’t yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book.
Hunter puts up a good front that he is under control and everything is fine but in truth he is not. Taken to drinking and ending up doing stupid things almost gets him killed but is saved by Cecilia. Cecilia who wishes to help the world but is unable to do everything she wants because she is not a man in stuck with doing what she can. When she happens upon a drunk Hunter about to get run over she goes to save him. Both are so different but it seems fate is setting things up since they keep meeting.
I am a fan of Ms. Gill’s writing and this book just reminded me why I love it so. Could not put the book down….loved it!
This was a fun story. I loved Cecelia’s strength of character, her independence, and her big heart. Hunter’s willingness to try to change how he behaved as well as thought about his lifestyle made me root for his success. There were times my heart was breaking for both of these wonderful characters, and I enjoyed the entire story. I recommend this book.
I received an ARC of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
I have to admit, I almost tossed the book at the half way mark. I couldn’t connect with a woman who recognized and hated the alcoholic life that Hunter was having. She even remarked several times how he reeked of spirits. And yet, she still allowed him to kiss her because he was so handsome. All Hunter could think about was making her his new mistress and his next drink, sometimes 2 drinks at a time. I get that authors put real life into books and alcoholism was certainly a problem, I just don’t like 1/2 a book dedicated to showing me one. After the 2nd half, when Cecilia makes a bargain with Hunter to get him to stop drinking, all he still thinking about is making her his mistress and nothing else. I did like that she already had a plan for what she would do without the support of her family and was ready to put it into action instead of being “oh poor me, whatever shall I do”. For me, not much was believable about the characters and their attraction to each other, sadly. I’ve liked other books by this author, just not this one very much. I do like that it brings to light situations that not everyone will write about, I just prefer not to read them in my fiction. Thank you for the ARC.
Book two in Lords of London novella series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. Told in dual POV with HEA. Hunter is a bored Marquess who drinks too much. Cecilia is a bluestocking who devotes her time to children’s charities. I loved the banter between them when their paths crossed. There was an attraction between them, but both knew they were from different classes. I would highly recommend this short and sweet historical romance.
She saved his life, but can she save him from himself?
Hunter, Marquis of Aaron, has the ton fooled. Outwardly he’s a gentleman of position, with good contacts, wealth and charm. His vice drinking himself into a stupor most days & it almost kills him when he steps in front of a hackney cab. His saviour, a most unlikely person in Cecilia Smith who dislikes idleness and waste. Had she been born male, she would already be working for her father’s law firm. When their social spheres collide, their witty banter is a joy but Cecilia has no time for members of the ton who she thinks are lazy & uncaring, Hunter is fascinated by Cecilia & contrives through mutual friends for them to meet occasionally. Their attraction is so apparent but they are like chalk & cheese. Another delightful read from the author which I devoured in an afternoon, the characters have plenty of depth & whilst parts are light hearted romance other parts deal with alcohol addiction & the lack of women’s rights. I certainly look forward to more in the series
A hard subject brought to the forefront in a way that makes you believe. Hunter is an alcoholic and even though Cecilia recognizes it she does not demean him, she and her friends (from the previous book) try to help him. It is not an overnight process and the end result is heartwarming. I absolutely loved both Hunter who is definitely a flirt and Cecilia who is caring but not a pushover. Their banter is witty and funny. Here is my issue with the book – it is way too short. I could have read a lot more of these characters. A great short story.

To Madden A Marquess by Tamara Gill is book two in the Lords of London series. It can truly be read as a stand alone book, but book one is also good. So far this is my favorite story by Ms. Gill. Cecilia Smith is the daughter of an attorney in Cheapside. When she miraculously saves the life of the Marquess of Aaron, her life is changed forever. Gill does a fabulous job of developing her characters and keeping the story an absolute page turner. I couldn’t put it down. I am looking forward to more from this author.
