So different and so good!
What an intriguing tale a spy who has hearing loss and a young woman who is just a pawn in a game of espionage. The author has jumped in with both feet in this charmer with both characters having medical conditions that need to be worked around. The drama was outstanding and the romance was splendid. This piece was great right from the start I highly recommend this book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Book three in the Currents of Love a story that kept me turning pages, I had to know what was going to happen. For me this is a must read story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Eric Langdon is one of England’s best intelligence agents who had lost his hearing as a teen due to a fever. When his siblings were inadvertently put into danger by being associated with him, he doubts himself and feels the blame for almost getting them killed. His devoted sister, Sarah, is sensitive to his moods and tries to convince him it was not his fault. But he is having trouble coping with his guilt.
The butler announced a visitor and Sir Thomas Mallory, Eric’s best friend and longtime mentor, entered the study. Sir Thomas wanted Eric back working for him and not hiding out in his estate. Eric was the best and they needed him. They had information on a new threat but no evidence to confirm it. So Sir Thomas wanted to invite Eric and Sarah to an event hosted by the Frenchman they were looking for proof against, who happens to have a young ward, a niece, close in age to Sarah. If Sarah became friends, she might hear something Eric could use. And there was no danger to Sarah at all, he said. Then he added that whether Eric came back to work for him or not, he refused to allow him to hide away and stop living. He insisted he get out and see what the world has to offer.
Eloise Marchand has lost her parents and lives with her Aunt and Uncle, not a very happy existence. She knows her uncle has sent her to England as some sort of pawn in his latest scheme, but she doesn’t know what it is or what she can do about it. What is he up to? Will it put Eloise in danger? Is it related to the information Sir Thomas is seeking?
When Eric looks around the ballroom and sees Eloise, is breath catches. When his sister, Sarah, strikes up a friendship with Eloise, she invites her to stay with them for the holidays. Eric and Eloise get to know each other and begin to feel the attraction heat up. It appears Eloise is more than happy to be with Eric, just as he is. Is her attention enough to convince him to take a chance on love?
This was such a good story with a hero one wouldn’t normally expect. Eric used his hearing loss to make him an even better intelligence agent who never let it be known he could read lips. This enabled him to get information he otherwise would not have discovered. His sister and Eloise were wonderful, strong characters that added much to the story line. Grab your copy and enjoy this well-written story that captures the reader’s attention right from the start!
Yet another wonderful book in the Langdon family saga. Quiet, brooding Eric battles inner demons while his heart thaws on the bumpy path to his well deserved HEA. This tale of trust, forgiveness, betrayal, second chances, hope, and love features phenomenal characters and a captivating plot, and I can’t wait for the next book in this series,
