To Love During War is the sweet/tame version of The Wartime Bride. My dearest hussar,Harry, from the day you arrived at St. Vincent’s Fort six months ago, an undeniable attraction began to simmer away between us. Whenever I got too close to you, my traitorous heart skipped a dratted beat and butterflies would abound in my belly. You have tempted me with your honor and integrity, with your deep … integrity, with your deep love for your family and your fellow soldiers-in-arms. I’m aware you will fight to the death to ensure Napoleon doesn’t end up taking Portugal, and so will I. Our enemy cannot be permitted to rule all of Europe, or to force his way onto England’s shores.
I admire all that you are, but you are also from a titled English family and of far better blood than I. My true parents abandoned me as a wee baby and if not for the professor who adopted me, I would have been left to perish. That is why I will never attempt to take our friendship any deeper than I should. Days together enjoying companionable friendship is all that I’ve asked for, but this war keeps tearing us apart, as if we shouldn’t even be permitted that much.
Never fear for me, my hussar—we will both survive this coming battle. It is time for us to slay our enemy, to win this dratted war, then for you to return safely to your family.
Yours in deep friendship, Julia.

A well written historical romance that takes place during the war. Nice storyline and plot. Sometimes it felt too rushed though and that made it lack depth.
The characters have a nice chemistry and they are well defined and develops nicely. A story that has a different beginning than usually for the regency romance stories. We are thrown right into planning a war. Not what I expected but absolutely a thing that made the story better. It is very captivating and the writing style is as always when it comes to Joanne Wadsworth amazing. And that gives it a four star review.
I found this book to be a real pleasure to read, the storyline was well written and the characters were so well rounded that I was totally captivated throughout the entire book!
This is a very entertaining, sweet and emotional romantic journey filled with interesting and engaging charters. It was a great way to spend an evening of reading.
The third book in the Sweet Regency Tales series. Major Harry Trentbury and Julia Chalmers’s story kept me turning pages a well written story that held my interest throughout. Harry loses his memory during a battle and can not remember a lot of things. Julia is keeping a secret. Who is the mysterious Jamie? These questions are answered in this story. I want to read the next story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Julia was abandoned in the river when she was a newborn, but Professor Chalmers found her and adopted her.
Harry is a hussar Major who is at war against Napoleon. They are fighting in Portugal trying to prevent the peninsula to be conquered from the French. He has known Julia for only six months, but that is enough time to fall in love with her.
My favourite book in the series so far. I laugh a lot with Jamie. I can’t say too much without revealing important matters that are better kept for the readers to discover.
I did enjoy the book a lot. A great series I recommend to anybody who likes romance.

This book was full of outstanding characters, well written and a quick read too! Harry and Julia’s story is loaded with drama, steam, humor and a bit of action. Ms. Wadsworth information about the fight for Portugal between the French and the English was interesting. I love when I learn something new and was entertained too. I highly recommend! Even though I did love the Earl I adore this new book was not my cup of tea. To Love During war was a great story and the characters were developed nicely. However, I did not like all the war battle references. I’m looking to escape reality while I’m reading and I do enjoy suspense and action but in this book I felt that it was a little too much war for me.

Major Harry Trentbury and Julia Chalmers met when he was stationed at St. Vincent’s Fort in Portugal during the Napoleonic Wars. She and her mother-figure Una work in the infirmary. Julia was discovered abandoned by Una and her adoptive father Professor Chalmers 27 years ago. Since she doesn’t know who her parents are she thinks no man will ever marry her. Harry and Julia are attracted to each other and they “sleep” together many times while waiting for the next battle. The book implies they just lie together on the same bed and kiss, but they are very passionate. Harry also keeps saying that he must marry someone of his station, which also makes his taking advantage of Julia this way as not being very honorable. He discovers she likes to disguise herself as a man and he hits his head and loses his memory during a battle. There were a lot of ups and downs in this Regency romance, but it was not as sweet and clean as the author implies.
St Vincent’s Fort, Portugal October 1810 Major Harry Trentbury is stationed at the fort during the Battle of Sobral and Miss Julia Chalmers is there with her father, a professor as she helps to care for the wounded mean. Julia is a healer who was found as a baby by the Professor who raised her own his own. There is a strong attraction between Harry and Julia that cannot be denied but she feels he is so far above her in station and he deserves so a better person.
This is the story of trying to find true love amid uncertain times and trying to breach barriers that in the end do not matter. A very sweet story that will warm your heart!

This is a sweet Regency story that takes place during the Battle of Sobral in Portugal. Major Harry Trentbury is stationed at St. Vincent’s Fort situated along the First Line of Torres Vedras, Portugal and Miss Julia Chalmers is there with her Professor father to help care for the wounded soldiers. I really enjoyed the lighthearted banter between them and you can also feel the simmering passion that’s there as well. They agree to spend a few nights together, just holding each other and kissing, to soothe their souls during the turmoil of war. Julia falls in love with him but doesn’t think they have any future because she was found abandoned as a baby by the professor and has no clue who her real parents are and she feels Harry deserves better. It’s then up to Harry to prove otherwise, all the while fighting so save Portugal from being taken over by the French. A few twists and turns occur before they have their HEA!!!
