Thoroughly & flat out awesome contemporary version of Beauty & the Beast. Once I started this book I could not stop reading it.
The author does a superb job of building the characters of Monster (H) & Sophie (h). The reader is exposed to & comes quickly to understand the Beast’s rage & his animal mind that fights a constant battle for the heart & soul of the tortured & guilt-ridden man trapped inside. And Sophie has her own demon to fight, a psychological one that has prevented her from ever allowing a man to get physically close to her in an intimate way since she was 16.
And then these 2 tormented souls meet & everything changes, but can they together bring themselves out of the dark, free themselves from the demons of their past & move forward to a hopeful future?
In the hands of another writer this could have been a silly or ridiculous or trite story but this tale is told with a skilled & deft touch. I wanted Monster to find forgiveness, hope, redemption & love. I wanted Sophie to find closure, peace, safety & love. I sincerely CARED about Monster & Sophie, I loved how Monster treasured Sophie & their time together, how he was protective & gentle of Sophie but still had such strong feelings for her he had to visibly fight to control his lust. And Sophie, I loved how despite her fear of Monster & close contact, felt empathy & sympathy, compassion for a Monster that she viewed as a man more & more each time she saw him.
A stellar story, written with finesse & skill— I loved it.

AMAZING!EMOTIONALLY GRIPPING!
A beautifully written twist to Beauty and the Beast! This is by far one of the best twisted retelling of this type of story that I have read to date! The storyline grabs hold of your heart twisting squeezing and piercing it to a numbing sensitive state that has you feeling and breathing every painful word as it impales you knocking you on your butt keeping you grabbing for a footing but loosing the fight as you get sucked in deeper into the depths of despair loving and hating every grueling word that continues to get slung at you wanting and needing to get to the HEA knowing it’s the only way you will be able to persevere from the damage this amazing read puts you through! Fierce, intense, edgy, heartfelt, a surge of adrenaline, mild triggers, angst, heartpounding twists and engrossing turns, a myriad of emotions, eye popping chemistry and impossible to put down! An amazing must read that once you start you will not be able to put it down!
It’s such a magnificent story with amazing characters!
Sophie is a genuinely good person. She’s nice, kind and compassionate despite being scarred by events from her past. I admired her strength to go on despite her damaged soul.
Monster is angry, crude and sarcastic, with a volatile temper and gruff attitude. My heart broke for his loneliness and when I read the story of his past.
I absolutely loved their relationship! How they helped, supported and healed each other, righting the wrongs and becoming the best version of themselves.
It’s a story of forgiveness, redemption and love, proving that what matters is on the inside.
It’s an addictive, couldn’t-put-it-down, steamy and emotional read and I loved it so much!
I’m always a sucker for Beauty and the Beast story lines. Ms Simcoe did not disappoint. Loved this updated version and the twist that she added.
Loved this book. I couldn’t put it down.
I love a good Beauty and the Beast story, since that is probably my favorite fairy tale of all time, and it gets a modern update in To Love a Monster. I also love that “Monster” really did earn his name, and the author didn’t shy away from his unpalatable past, because I think it’s often too easy to soften a hero’s past and character to make them more acceptable, but doing that can take some of the depth and the edge from them. I believe in redemption (which is one reason BandB is my favorite fairy tale) so despite a monstrous past, I was really rooting for the hero to win the love of his heroine! I think this is a beautiful modern retelling of the classic tale, and I would definitely recommend!
Finding intruders on his land is one thing, one of those intruders turning our to be a girl from his long forgotten past is another…unable to stop his beast like instinct and hurting her in the process fills Monster with a guilt and flood of emotions he thought he had long forgotten.
Unable to face the consequences of Sophie potentially dying on his land and the attention this will bring, he finds himself aiding her enough to get her to leave. But with her leaving he finds himself unable to stop the flood of human emotions he thought he was no longer capable of.
With a unexpected friendship developing he finds himself wanting more..but how could she possibly ever see past the outside to love a monster?
Flawed, Scarred and tortured and hiding from the world… not facing the day to day reality of life because of actions that have changed the very path you were walking…not caring about anything to do with yourself because the disappointment hurts to much…a girl…a boy/monster… their stories aren’t so different… in fact they are a similar tale of tragedy. …a love story so adored by so many that it has been retold many times…some stories need to be retold time and time again till they get it right… and this is my favourite, because it’s original, thought provoking and so much more.
This story is not a light and fluffy retelling of beauty and the beast… it is not a tale about singing furniture and enchanted flowers. It has adult themes and is dark and gritty in places…consider yourself trigger warned..( on a Bubbles scale I would say mild ) not gratuitous or dramatic for the sake of being dramatic…but emotive and deep and touching. A story about the ability to heal from hurts with the power of self belief and recognising your own worth.
I’ve said it before about this author, Marina Simcoe doesn’t just tell you a story…she paints you a picture in broad emotive brush strokes so real that you feel them and they are still wet.
You don’t just get one characters voice..but multiple voices..and it’s a true wordsmith that gives so much in a story.
P.s…I totally digged the nurses name!
The great character and storyline development made this book a real page turner which kept me totally engaged until the very end!
Sophie and two friends are in the woods in the far reaches of Canada. They are trying to locate a cabin. They find it only to be chased out by a monster.Sophie runs but gets lost then falls and injures her leg. Monster finds her and rescues her from a cougar. He speaks to her, which surprises her, and takes her back to the cabin. The next morning he takes her close to the hedge where a few minutes later she’s found by her male friend and an RCMP female. After recuperating and thinking about something her friend tells her, she decides to stay for a while. Then she remembers that the Monster asked for pain killers. So she does and has another conversation with him. Over the next few weeks she revisits him and they learn about each other. Then one night she screams in her sleep from a nightmare. That is when Monster recalls something about Sophie. The past has a habit of intersecting with the future and the outcome is precarious.
WOW! This is a fantastic telling of Beauty and the Beast! A fantastic story and read that will have you hanging on to each page until the end of the story as you pull for both Monster and Sophie!

This is the first time I’ve read from Marina Simcoe and it won’t be the last. A modern day Beauty and the Beast and I totally loved it!!! The characters are loveable and the storyline flowed very well, I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it. There’s adventure, mystery and anxiety attacks along with a HEA. A must read.

I was enticed by the cover and blurb for this book as I am a fan of the Beauty and The Beast fairytale and I ended up very pleased and satisfied. The bare bones of the story are what you would expect; a man that is vain, selfish and uncaring messes with the wrong female and Bam! A life altering curse is placed on him to turn him outside into the monster he is on the inside. An innocent, feisty and loving female is eventually brought into his life. Sparks fly and emotions grow but is love enough? What made this version so enjoyable were the interesting little new twists that were added to the story, the deep, intense emotional turmoil, the steamy chemistry that burns between these characters an the powerful edge of darkness that adds a sharp edge to the story. I loved this book and I am excited to see more from this author.
Sofia is traumatized from an attack when she was 16! Now as an adult it still effects her. When she encounters a monster that can talk her need to help outweighs her fear. This is a story of adversity, trauma, healing, finding one’s true self and redemption! I really enjoyed this book! I recommend this book for those looking for an unconventional love story!

A beautiful retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Monster is a tortured soul but when Sophie Morel comes into his life he tries to change for the better. This is the first book by this Author that I have read but I will be looking at more of her stories. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Two damaged people thrown together. One kind, one with anger issues. Add a bit of the paranormal and you have our story.
You know the plot and where it is going, including the expected HEA. So what you need to know is about the journey. The story is well crafted, and the characters have the depth necessary to support the plot. The journey itself will be rather difficult, with some real emotional sections, both positive and negative. The author does an excellent job of keeping the reader’s interest right to the end.
Recommended for those that like to explore new takes on an old story.

For adult readers.
This sort of a modern day, adult version of Beauty and the Beast. Hunter had a terrible father who solved disagreements with his fists. Hunter was often the one to feel his father’s fists while his mother was stoned or passed out drunk. Unfortunately for Hunter, he realized a little to late that he had his father’s temper.
Sophie has never been able to have any sort of a relationship with men because of an attack that happened to her when she was a teenager. Sophie just had her current boyfriend leave her behind in the middle of nowhere to save himself, another one to break up with.
I like the thought of the man being turned into what he acts like. I think this story started to get tedious and drag a bit in the middle, but then picks back up again.
This book has steamy parts and romantic sentimental stuff with all the feels.
It’s a tale as old as time.
If you are a fairytale kind of person, this one is definitely a grown up version of Beauty and the Beast!! Two damaged people help each other become whole with a beautiful HEA. I was enthralled with this one.

Sophie is a strong and fun leading heroine – a bit insecure at times and like Monster a bit emotionally lost.
A tragic event from her past left untended has dictated her future.
Monster -angry, forgotten – he wants to forget – forget the past that paved his present – forget the man who once forgot all civility
This was a sweet take on a beloved fairy tale – really enjoyed the way the author approached the story – the slow build between them, the outside influences – and the past mistakes that eventually led to a very dark revelation
To Love A Monster by Marina Simcoe is a great story to read. I loved reading this great story of a child hood story, and this romantic story is a great one. I recommend this story to all who loved the Beauty and the Beast story growing up.

My goodness, I loved this story which is a modern day fairy tale. Sophie is a damaged soul who has not been able to move beyond a traumatic event in her youth. Monster is a predator who is forced to live daily with the consequences of his closed heart and callous actions. There are tears, anger and forgiveness along the road to an HEA. And a big ole curve ball that comes to light. Secrets must be revealed to break the spell and release both their broken hearts. Author Simcoe is a master story teller who captivates the reader as she weaves the tale. She is relatively new to me but certainly is one that I will read again.
