Lord Robert Cresthaven took one look at the stunning Miss Clarissa Townsend and knew that she was destined to be his wife. The fact she doesn’t see her own self-worth makes him want to show her exactly how desirable she is. When they’re caught in a compromising position, things don’t go according to plan and his beautiful Clarissa is locked away.Clarissa may not have fought for anything in her … anything in her life, but she refuses to be sold to Madame Giselle or the disgusting Mr. Peterson. Just because she’s crippled, and now ruined, doesn’t mean that she can’t have the husband and family she’s always dreamt of. Escaping her family was easy enough, but convincing Lord Cresthaven that she loves him might be the hardest thing she’ll ever have to do. Because kissing Lord Cresthaven was the most wonderful thing she’d ever experienced, and Clarissa wants so much more from the handsome lord.

Clarissa is from a respectable and privileged New Orleans family. Robert, Lord Cresthaven, is an Earl visiting America with his friends from jolly old England. Clarissa attends Debutante balls, but at 23 years old she realizes no one will ever want to marry her because of the limp she displays. Unfortunately, this keeps her from dancing with any gentlemen. Robert has been mesmerized by her for awhile, but Clarissa doesn’t know this fact until they are caught in an uncompromising situation. Of course, it causes a scandal and the punishment for Clarissa is to be married off to a man old enough to be her grandmother or go to work for Madame Giselle. So what happens in the story? You’ll have to read it to find out!
Short and fun read. Packs a lot of story in a small amount of pages!! You could read it over a lunch break! Enjoy!
This is the first book of Jessica Coulter Smith that I have read and I really enjoyed her writing style. It’s a beautiful story of strength and perseverance and not being afraid of going after what you want and what you deserve. This is portrayed very nicely in Clarissa’s character. Despite her unfortunate circumstances, she believes she deserves her happy ending and she isn’t afraid to go after it. Go Clarissa! Ms. Smith does a wonderful job of creating characters who are endearing and really knows how to capture their emotions and feelings and give them depth. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more about Robert’s friends and their paths to love!

While I have read quite a bit by Jessica Coulter Smith, this is the first regency of her’s that I’ve read. I loved it! Her writing style fits this period piece, not just her contemporary and futuristic romances. Robert and Clarissa are uniquely suited, and I love how quickly his friends include her as part of their group. Both Robert and Clarissa are a product of their time, and their stations in life. With some courage and perseverance, these two find their forever together. Looking forward to reading how Robert’s friends fins their own ladies.
