Voted America’s Best-Loved Novel in PBS’s The Great American ReadHarper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork of honor and injustice in the deep South—and the heroism of one man in the face of blind and violent hatredOne of the most cherished stories of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than forty million copies worldwide, served as … the basis for an enormously popular motion picture, and was voted one of the best novels of the twentieth century by librarians across the country. A gripping, heart-wrenching, and wholly remarkable tale of coming-of-age in a South poisoned by virulent prejudice, it views a world of great beauty and savage inequities through the eyes of a young girl, as her father—a crusading local lawyer—risks everything to defend a black man unjustly accused of a terrible crime.

Good enough to be the classic it is known as
This is one of my all time favorite books. Should be required reading for all American students.
Unbelievably contrived, probably thanks to the publisher.
Harper Lee’s only (full) book…and one of the best I have ever read. If you like history and books about the human condition – a must read!
This is a classic!
One of my all time favorite novels. A true masterpiece.
I first read this book when I was in high school. I bought the book years ago and have read it several times. It is one of the few paper books I have kept since I got my kindle.
I want to be just like Atticus Finch
Riveting
no matter your favorite genre, Harper Lee’s book is a classic and should be read by all.
My favorite of all novels.
There is a reason this book is a classic.
It’s great strength is, of course, it’s characters, especially Scout and her father.
It’s weakness is the story’s failure to develop any of its African American characters as multi-dimensional individuals. They are the backdrop before which Atticus Finch displays his heroic character.
If one tries to view the story as an examination of race relations in the south, it offers an overly narrow and one sided perspective. But if you read it as an examination of human decency and character, it is a flawed, but wonderful success.
An American classic!
There is a reason we are made to read this in middle school – it establishes the heroic that can be in all of us, in spite of our flaws, and it challenges us all to be our better selves in the face of right and wrong.
This book is an American classic; and should be read by everyone.
This book has always been a favorite of mine. I read it every so often, and over the years, find that I see it in a slightly different light every time. I love the characters, the life lessons and the wonderful writing style of Harper Lee. It’s just timeless!
Wonderful story of family life, growing up in troubled times & learning about life.
One of the best books ever.
“To Kill a Mockingbird” is a book I read in high school and taught to my high school students years later. The characters are vividly and believably drawn; the plot is engaging and the language is easily understood by teenagers and adults alike. It is an American classic which should be read and enjoyed over and over again! S.T. Pierce
When I am sad because I’ve finished reading a book, then that is a good book. That is how it was with this book. I wanted to continue reading about Scout and Atticus and Boo Radley. My most favorite book.
Classic lessons from very memorable characters. There’s a reason it’s been voted all time best read for so many years.
