UPDATED REVIEW. 2021
This book is the reason I stopped reading this series. I forgot how much it annoyed me and unfortunately it is still too unbelievable.
It’s been a long time since I read one of these and now I remember why. These books are in a different order than they were originally and some books have actually been put into other series.
Not a world I enjoy when they threaten to wipe memories or dispose of people who learn about them.
Everything happens between these two in basically a 24 hour period. There is no build up between these two at all, no connection and really no story.
Adam has just been dumped by a she-wolf shifter after a 10 year friends with benefits relationship. One whom he’d thought he’d mate, eventually, except she met her True Mate.
Paige is apparently so shy, not months, but SIX YEARS go by because she cannot speak to Adam except about his same order every week in the bakery where she works.
Then when she sees wolves shifting, has a word vomit moment and mentions something to Adam, he suddenly takes an interest in her.
Adam is drawn to her, even kisses her but then sniffs around EVERY female wolf back at the ranch, looking for his mate, as he doesn’t believe Paige is his one. He even thinks he can transfer his feelings to another woman.
Paige is just too pathetic to like as a heroine. One kiss and the threat of having her memories wiped and she is telling Adam she has loved him for years.
Really, this timid mouse who couldn’t even say hello suddenly blurts out that.
What happens to Paige just made me roll my eyes. Their own stupid rules bite them in the backside.
And even better, the memory erasing, which is not reversible at all as they damage the brain, is done with no pre-meeting, no protocol, the person is just grabbed and either has their memories removed or killed.
Really good sensible safeguard system they have going on there. The witches just take the word of one person, nobody double checks with anyone else, even the alpha couldn’t control or stop it from happening.
This book is why I stopped reading this series.
I got so angry at this whole taking someone’s memories, their very life away from them, it’s disgusting. Bad enough they lose everything they owned and their job. What if they had a family, children? Talk about heartache for a selfish reason.
And then it is all magically fixed. Everyone apologies to everyone else and everyone involved, even Paige, take the blame.
The alpha female Tonya, who has a hard, nasty side shown in previous books, then states it was meant to happen that way.
HEA for everyone then..
Why did the couple who shifted where they shouldn’t have, TWICE, not get punished? They caused the whole problem but get off Scot free. This couple, by the way, are also the ex-friends with benefits she wolf and her new mate.
ORIGINAL REVIEW from many years ago.
Just scrapes to a two-star review.

I hate timelines that just don’t make sense.

Seriously, Paige is apparently so shy, not months, but years go by because she cannot speak to Adam. WTH.
She works in a bakery and has to deal with people all the time..
Saying that, Adam was busy boinking another woman for 10 years, who he thought he’d mate with, so maybe he was just stupidly blind too.
Adam finally notices Paige but then attempts to connect with any she wolf he can meet as he doesn’t believe Paige is his one.
Everything happens between these two in basically a 24 hours period.
