I loved Stephen who had received nothing but scorn from Clara & her friends, however when he finds her in difficulty he doesn’t hesitate to rescue her. I disliked Clara intensely at the start of the book & wondered if she could possibly be redeemed. She was a product of her upbringing & the ‘set’ she belonged to. I did love how the road to their HEA developed & how Clara grew throughout the story. And yes she was redeemed in my eyes. Another well written book that flowed effortlessly & tied up all the ends of the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Great way to wrap up the series!
Stephen Grant is the brother of Louisa and Sophie from books 1 and 3 of the to Kiss a Wallflower series. They grew up in poverty and Louisa had to work to support her sister and brother since losing their parents. Only now that Louisa and Sophie have married titled gentlemen do they not have to worry about making ends meet.
Clara is the daughter of a duke and even though she does not look at marriage as an advantage, she was interested in the marquess who married Louisa as a suitor. Therefore, there is bad blood between her and the Grants. Stephen and her have verbally sparred over the years and therefore do not like each other very much.
And then like a decent gentleman would, Stephen saves her from Lord Peel who trapped her into a bad situation at a party. She sees him a little differently but still they both have reservations about each other.
They are thrown into another situation where he helps her with her ailing father and they grow closer.
The fact that Stephen and Clara had such caustic interactions up until they learn more about who they really are allows their bantering to lead to a sizzling chemistry. I liked how the author incorporated the “Alzheimer type” disease into the story, as it affects so many people’s lives. It also allowed me to see Clara in a different light and brought about attitude changes that allowed her to attain a happy life. I definitely recommend this book and series. I enjoyed reading about all the different characters and stories. I received an ARC of this book and chose to post my review.
A beautiful story of breaking down the barriers of the time. Clara and Stephen find love where they least expect it. The part of the story with her father’s illness was beautifully written and touched my heart being that I lost my grandmother to this disease. It was a turning point for Lady Clara and Mr. Grant. Their romance grows to be so much more than they expect.
Lady Clara Quinton (daughter of a Duke) has been dealing with overseeing her father’s business and his declining health. He has a serious illness (think Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s Disease ) and becoming a little more violent. She is also an heiress and she has an unsavory Lord Peel who is after her and think he can do whatever he wants. He shows her at a party that he is interested and forces his will on her. She fights him off best she can and surprisingly Mr Stephen Grant comes to the rescue. Clara and Stephen have quite the history. EVERYONE knows these two are the worst enemies around. Stephen’s sister Louise married Clara’s intended (in her mind) and Clara has never forgiven the family who are far beneath the TON. Stephen has now rented his brother-in-law’s property and the property borders Clara’s home. Stephen makes the acquaintance of the Duke and is invited to dinner and fish on his property. That infuriates Clara and more sparks fly. When her father is near the end and gets violent Stephen is there to take care and protect Clara and the two grow closer together. Lord Peel rears his ugly head once again and again Stephen saves the day but without repercussions (gossip)…Clara retreats to her old ways and life after her father’s death and Stephen leaves for Scotland. Clara must think fast how she is going to win the only man she truly loves. She just might be too late!
I am not sure if I have ever disliked a main character as much as I dislike Clara. She was horrible to Stephen’s family. On the other hand I loved her interaction with her father and her patience and love. As the story progresses, I come to realize that she is really just a product of her environment. Yes she is a bit haughty but I understand. Stephen shows her that love crosses all lines and he is just lovely in this story. This is a beautiful story.
I received a complimentary copy from the author.

My review :
Wow, Mrs Tamara Gill did an awesome job, she just succeeded in rendering likable the haughty conceited nemesis of every heroine from this series.
It is often seen to have a vilain man redeeming his way because of love, but it is much rarer to read the contrary.
Oh high and mighty Lady Clara does not suddenly become Sweet Clara, it is a lengthy transformation she must endeavor herself.
Why during the first part of the book, it is mostly them throwing barbs and quips at each other, but in between each catches a glimpse of who is the other but old habits are hard to let go.
Stephen is a good brother, but also a kind man, he might not have bathed in wealth and lavishness but when someone is in need he rises to the challenge.
Why becoming closer to Clara, he comes to see under a different light, she is still a high ranked peer’s daughter, she still scratches him at time with her taunts but there is also more than meets the eyes. Behind her society’s mask, hides a woman who cares for her kin and her tenants.
So even a shrew has a soft side.
Clara’s upbringing was one of luxury with fancy things and jaded friends, so when she felt she had been robbed from what she thought was hers, she releases her claws and beware to those on the receiving sides. But years made her realize the wrongness of her actions yet it is much more difficult for her to change her way of life, when that is what she has always known.
Yet she came close to loose everything dear as her epiphany came a bit late.
This tale was a wondrous story of discovering what is worth for oneself.
